Why Does Our Stomachs Growl When We Are Hungry?
This happens to me a lot, our stomachs growl when we are hungry because of acid buildup triggered by the hunger, a message sent by the brain to the organ involved. To prove that this is true, try drinking a glass of water before you even fill up your stomach with food and you will see, the growling stops for a bit. This is because the acid has been saturated by the water you just drank. Of course, the growling will not stop until your brain is satisfied that you have solved the problem by eating.
In fact, growling not only comes from stomach but also from small intestine. Medically, it is also termed as borborgymi ( singular-- borborgymus). Its physiological origin involves muscular activity in the stomach and small intestine. There is a muscular activity involving a ring of contraction away from oral cavity towards anus. This is called peristalsis. The rate and force of peristalsis increase when the food is present in the stomach and intestine. But the peristaltic activity also increases when the stomach and small intestine are empty of food for approximately two hours. The receptors in the walls of the stomach sense the absence of food causing a reflex generation of peristaltic waves. Such contractions start from the lower part of stomach and propagate along the entire length of gut. The contractions also produce vibrations and rumbling sounds associated with hunger. The hunger contractions may continue for 10 to 20 minutes when initiated and repeat 1 to 2 hours til next meal is taken.
Low blood sugar also enhances this activity.
The digestive juices are looking for food to work to break down..usually if you drink some water, the sounds will subside, but only for a short time...best not to go more than 2 hours with something in your stomach..this will also eliminate gaining weight and problems with gall bladder / constipation/ diarhea / and dehydration..

Why does my lower back hurts when I do abs workout?I lay down on my back and do several different sit-ups, sometimes with the upper body, sometimes with the legs getting up and down. But my lower back always hurt. I can feel a gap between my back and the floor when I lay down on my back.

What makes the stomach growl AFTER eating?I never had this happen before. It happened yesterday and again today. I just ate a good size bowl of pasta with sauce about 30 minutes ago and my stomach is growling and it feels like I haven't eaten in hours. It was not growling or anything prior to this....
