How can one overcome a phobia?

I am terrified of flying, but I do it often. I'm tired f the stress it causes me. Any suggestions?

There are many different methods to try for phobia that can be effective. Hypnosis is one. You can find a good, qualified hypnotherapist in your area. You could also look into buying audio of self-hypnosis recording and listen to it.

Another method you can look into is known as EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique. There is a lot of information about it on the Internet. Or Rapid Eye Therapy.

And one other thing that may be helpful to you is something called The Sedona Method.

I cannot guarantee that any of these things will work for you, as results vary from individual to individual. And they are all "alternative" methods that aren't always accepted by "experts" in the mental health field. But I know people who have had good results with these methods.

Another effective method that seems to be popular with those in the mental health field right now is called Exposure Therapy. I am mostly familiar with it's use for OCD, but it is used for anxiety and phobias as well.

    Good luck.

I am certainly going to look into EFT! I've never heard of it, I'm quote intrigued. Thank you for your suggestions! Anything helps! And if I can avoid taking medication for it, i'd prefer that

Find a stage 3 therapist in EFT, highly recommended. Most phobias are the result of an emotional input. Debilitating and lacking understanding from others, yet can be overcome.

i'm intrigued. I didn't know a therapist was needed for EFT (Though I've just heard about EFT for the first time on this thread). I've got three weeks until I fly next, but I'll look into a therapist when I get back!

Yes, I do agree with DreamsInBloom that hypnosis can be the solution for phobia.

As for me, I always do the direct approach of facing my phobia.

I usually fly between 2 and 4 times a year. I never let it hold me back, but I'm just over the stress and emabarassment

I'd say meditation.  Practice meditation regularly for a couple weeks before flying, and then when flying try to practice the same.

I generally do meditate, but it's yet to help me on a flight. Alot of my meditation involves imagining roots into the ground, but that scares me on a plane because I'm afraid it'll pull us down! lol

Hehe, you need not worry if your roots are balanced and strong enough?  If you can balance your roots you can balance your plane!

Understand your Spiritual nature. Find out who you really are. Then all fears will disappear. The real fear is, fear of harm or death. Let these go by changing your understanding. Also visualize yourself happy when you fly!
