What is your experience with destiny?

Is there really such a thing as destiny? How does it work together with free will?

the only free will man has is to accept or reject GOD. if you accept GOD, you give your will over to HIM. if you reject HIM, your life is left to chance. GOD is in control of what happens on this planet. when people reject GOD, HE turns HIS back on them. for those that accept HIM...nothing happens without a reason. i guess i don't really believe in destiny. the whole duty of man is to obey GOD. HE may use us as HE sees fit, for whatever purpose HE desires. HE alone knows what the future will bring, or what HIS plans for any particular person might be. sometimes we feel that something happened because it was just meant to be...and perhaps it was. but as for destiny...as in "it's my destiny to be a doctor"...i guess if you feel strongly that you were meant to be a doctor then you should follow that dream. i always felt i should have been a police officer or a firefighter...but circumstances prevented that from happening. i sometimes wonder why i feel so strongly about this, have such a strong desire to save lives, if i wasnt meant to...but i do  not know what GODs long term plans are for me. i live my life one day at a time and do not worry about what might or might not happen in the future. I know it is all taken care of. anyway...that is my take on destiny and free will.

As I see it, we need first to become clear about the term "destiny." Destiny is related to destination, that is, reaching a certain end goal. That assumes that time is real, which is doubtful. But if you mean "destined purpose" so that pershap we are destined to do certain work over time, then the issue is seen differently.

My own practical approach is to divide "destiny" or "purpose" into two elements, Spirit and Soul. The Spirit element is about Love as genuine non-violent power, living true to who we are and harmlessly to all beings. I believe we will ultimately all do this. Free will is our choice to delay Peace by refusing it for now, as we , for now, prefer things of the ego. at this level, all people face the same issue.

The other aspect is Soul. Here, there are unique lessons, unique pieces of karma to complete. And, as we complete our karma, we become freer and freer. Then we have unique creative gifts to develop and share, unique ways of serving, and a unique population of people animals, or plants or ecosystems to serve.

So free will is the degree to which we choose to see, receive, embrace, and act on our general human destiny of Divine Peace and our specific destiny embodying the journey of learning, love, creativity and service of our soul.

Thank you for this input and insight, Sid.

If you have time, I would be interested to know if you feel that a meeting of two people as life partners such as in the story of Kati and me, 'Is Destiny Real?' is an example of destiny at work.

there are 2 paths; the right path and the wrong path. The decision of choosing a certain path is entirely in our hands which is why there is a day of judgement.

Now, if you have a child then you would know what makes your child happy and what makes your child sad. you would also anticipate the reaction of your child when you do something specific (normally something to show your friends etc)... so basically you know your child really well (before the teens that is..) ... This is how God knows us and therefore has predicted what we would do in our lives.

There would be a map of some sort that says ... "if he chooses the right path then this will be the outcome and if he chooses the wrong path then this would be the outcome" ... you can say a road map of our lives is all calculated and all the decision points are the milestones or turning points... the end result depends entirely on us, which is why we will be judged (otherwise whats the point of the whole excercise...)

we can change our destiny through prayers and the choices that we make.

Yes, for me there is a destiny. Destiny may sometimes be very cruel but it is very much there always.
Free will and destiny when in sync, life is very satisfactory and pleasant. But death for example is not in our hand and when it comes it just comes and take away with it the person concerned. The death of my father and father-in-law were the real brush with destiny for me.
    Thank you.

Thank you for writing. I hadn't fully thought of it that way.
