I am severely phobic of needles. Blood draws cause my blood pressure to plummet, which can cause any number of other major problems with my overall health. Furthermore, it's very difficult to get a good vein in my arm or in the back of my hand. They almost all roll, and it takes at least two jabs by even the most experienced nurses to get a good vein. The experience is ridiculously traumatic.

If it weren't, I'd give blood freely. More pricks only make me more afraid of the needles though, so exposure therapy isn't the right path on this one for me personally. I've always felt bad that psychologically I just can't get there.

It's easy for me to say, but try not feel bad about it. Having a phobia is a scary thing (I have a phobia of spiders) and can be crippling. That's not your fault!

I was donating blood for a while, but then I was told I couldn't due to an iron deficiency. Since my iron levels still need to be regulated with medication, I haven't even attempted to donate blood in a few years. I'd like to, but I just don't think it'd be a healthy thing for me to do.

I used to donate blood regularly and then I contracted Hepatitis B. It disqualifies me from giving blood. I was very sick with the virus and continue to monitor my blood every six months.

I know it's a nice an generous thing to do, but I do pass out any time I have to have a blood draw. If someone I knew needed my blood I would make the sacrifice, but for a stranger who may need it someday...

I've had a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and due to the vitamins, iron tabs, and B12 injections I'm on for the rest of my life - I'm not allowed.
I used to give blood, and even platelets at one point - and would gladly do so again.
However it's bad for my health do to so - Iron is low so would do me more harm than I would be doing good.

my hubby disallowed me to do so even though I am willing to donate. Chinese people are selfish. They are born to be selfish. Donating doesn't bring in money but good health and a kind deed. All the people I know ( Chinese) don't donate blood. They say, stupid to do something that doesn't gain you anything. Hilarious, isn't it?

I had uterine thrombosis (a very rare blood clotting condition) in 2006, after the birth of my son. I was on blood thinners and a ton of antibiotics for 3 weeks after delivery. I am not allowed to give blood after that for my risk could be escalated.

Unlike most people, I have no phobia of needles. In fact, I'm very used to them as I am always having blood drawn for testing. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, and because of that I am unable to donate blood according to government regulations.

It is recommended that a person not donate blood if he/she is anemic, have low iron,  is pregnant, or elderly.
