Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is the generic name for Benadryl. It can be an effective sleep aid, but many doctors do not recommend it for this purpose because of it's effect on sleep quality.

Melatonin, a hormone your brain produces to help you sleep, is available in a natural supplement form and can be helpful with promoting sleep. Different herbal supplements and teas can be effective sleep aids as well.
