   How can I get my voice back?
   
   After having a cold, my voice has now gone.  It's painful to try to speak, so I just whisper.  Which is fine when I'm at home, but next week I will have to work and go to college!
   
   Any tips for getting it back fast? 
   
   (I'm already intermittently gargling with vinegar, honey and cayenne pepper, a remedy I got from Earthclinic, but while this makes it feel quite good for a little bit, it hasn't actually helped too much so far...)

   Well, although having a cold sucks, it does take a little time to get over it.  My suggestion is boil ginger into a tea, eat peppermint or peppermint tea, take lots of vitamin C because you still might have the cold.  Drink lots and lots of tea since your throat is really sensitive.  Good luck, hope you get over it!

      Thanks, it's true, maybe I am being a bit impatient.  I have been drinking ginger tea, I think I will drink it more often.    And will try vitamin C too, thanks.

   There is a product called throat coat tea I used when I had laryngitis. It was amazing, very soothing. It's important to rest your vocal chords and not strain them. You can gargle with salt water periodically if your throat is sore and that can help. You may want to get a strep test. If you have strep throat you need an antibiotic to rid yourself of it before it gets worse.

   I am diagnosing you as having laryngitis. "Laryngitis is an inflammation of the voice box, or larynx, that causes your voice to become raspy or hoarse.
   See a picture of the larynx camera (say "LAIR-inks").
   Laryngitis can be short-term or long-lasting (chronic). Most of the time, it comes on quickly and lasts no more than 2 weeks.
   Chronic symptoms are those that last 2 weeks or longer. Check with your doctor if your symptoms last more than 2 weeks, because your laryngitis may be caused by more severe problems.
   What causes laryngitis?
   Laryngitis can be caused by:
   Colds or flu. This is the most common cause.
   Acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This type of laryngitis is also called reflux laryngitis.
   Overuse of your voice, such as cheering at a sports event.
   Irritation, such as from allergies or smoke."
   If you smoke, then stop. My mother smoked and got laryngitis a lot. I did not smoke and never got it.

      Yes, thanks.  It is laryngitis, from having a cold.  Really hope it doesn't last 2 weeks, as I have lots to do in the next 2 weeks!
      
      I don't smoke, I imagine that would make it a lot worse.

   Instead of vinegar and all that other stuff just pore some salt in a cup of warm water and gargle with it. The warmer the water and the more salt that you can tolerate the better. It maybe too late now but in the future this is a sure way to kill the bacteria before they can interact with your throat tissue.
