Why is toothpaste so bad that the poison control center has to be called if toothpaste is swallowed?
Something bad must be in toothpaste that experts must be involved if the toothpaste is ingested or swallowed. Only a small amount of toothpaste is in the tube, so it must be highly toxic that such a small amount would be so dangerous.
Fluoride toothpaste can introduce serious health risks for the very young. For this reason, the FDA has required a poison warning on every tube of fluoride toothpaste sold in the US since 1997.
Swallowing large amounts of fluoride toothpaste can cause permanent tooth discoloration, various stomach ailments, severe toxicity, a variety of skin rashes, and even difficulty with metabolizing glucose.
Q.
The fluoride in toothpaste, in high "doses", can be toxic to children and adults alike, but is more dangerous to children. This is really no different than many other things most people probably consider non-hazardous to their children. Brushing their teeth and giving them vitamins are both good for their health, but can kill if taken in very high "doses".
Along with what the others have said already there has been concern that fluoride has been linked to Alzheimer as well as cancer. Fluoride is a heavy metal derived from aluminium that can attach to brain cells, so if swallowed does get into the blood stream. Once it enters the body, and attaches to cells it cannot be removed from the body. Aluminium is in many antacids, such as Rolaids, mylanta, and tums Mercury is another heavy metal that does the same thing. That was the preservative that was in many childhood immunizations as well, and why it was removed. Mercury has been a concern in the rise of Autism, which has reached a very high incidence in children. http://www.amazon.com/A-Shot-Dark-H-Cou … 089529463X
My thoughts are if mercury can do this, then fluoride can as well. The mouth is a direct entrance into the blood stream. Is it worth the risk? Researchers are still on the fence. I use non fluoride, toothpaste and mouth wash. Toms has a line of these products through Amazon, and many drug stores. The decision is ours, can we depend on others, I cannot say. For me it isn't worth the risk. If you choose to have your child use it, make sure they spit it out, and not swallow. In no way am I trying to cause a pandemic, it's just common sense, would you suck on a nail? no you wouldn't. http://www.amazon.com/Toms-Maine-Antipl … B004M95UHI
Then, I have to ask the question, "if Hitler put fluoride in the water to control the Jews and prisoners, is the same being done here.

Would you rather have drinking water without fluoride? We don't swallow the fluoride when we get a treatment at the dentist. Why should it be in drinking water? Is cavity protection worth the known health risks to fluoride, which some consider an industrial waste product?

If fluoride is harmful for us to swallow in our toothpaste, why is it allowed in our water? Most of the cities in American put fluoride in their water systems. The claim is it is for our teeth. The problem with this is when ingested can be very harmful to us. Which is why we are told not to swallow...
