When performing lunges, where do you feel the greatest amount of force?

I have been trying to be better at daily lunges. I am finding that perhaps my format may be hampering me. It seems as if my back thigh is carrying more of weight. Shouldn't a lunge be balanced? Am I leaning the wrong way? Can you advise?
