In the past I have used the low carb diet but it's hard to do. It works, but I think it's better to do it the old fashioned way, calorie count and exercise. I do like eating healthy, but anymore I eat whatever I want only using the calorie count when I have to lose a few pounds.

I'm a firm believer in the low carb diet. Ditch breads, crackers, cookies, pastas, and sweetened beverages. Eat meals which are meat and vegetables. Fruit too. Drink water and not sweetened beverages. In any event, lay off the completely unnecessary carbs that are ubiquitous in the modern American diet. Eat all the meat you want, all the fat you want, all the fruit you want, and all the vegetables you can stand. Use butter, never margarine or other processed oils. Lard is fabulous. Don't associate with the cult of veganism. There is no vegan god who will reward you with anything but never ending and increasing 'feelz.' haha

      Wesman Todd Shaw,
I like your advice. I've been doing some research into what is best to eat on a diet to lose weight. It seems that what you're saying about eating the meat and the right fats is what fuels weight loss.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

I have no weight-loss "secrets," Lisa, because the reality is there are NO secrets.  No diet, no pill, powder or liquid.  No tricks, magic or mysteries.  We should not have to lose any more than a few pounds here and there, now & then in a lifetime.
However, there are ways to maintain a healthy weight, trim body & keep excess pounds  at a bare minimum.  You'll be happy to know it doesn't take any extra time, energy or money. It's not a long list of things to do and not do nor complicated formula created by some Dr. Houdini after 100 years of research that costs $500 to lose 50 lbs that we'll gain back plus more, in no time as soon as we return to our normal habits.....which of course is pure & simple "human nature."
Calorie intake to energy output.  Make it your business to know what YOUR body needs to keep ticking in terms of food for energy.  Eat whole foods, fresh foods & whenever possible organic.  Make sugar your worst enemy, carbs a close 2nd (since they become sugar) & never purchase "processed" anything!  If you don't buy it...it's not in your home.  When you're out and about, you're programmed to eat as you do at home.
Pamper yourself on rare occasions.  Pig out if you must, but pig out in good, useful calories, not crap.  The day AFTER you pig out, get up an hour earlier than normal, stay active throughout the day & drink lots of water always...and go to bed an hour later than usual.  You've redeemed yourself for the pig out.  That wasn't so hard right?  Create your mind set and don't screw it up.  Keep alcohol away from your lips.  Sure, you can "celebrate" on very special occasions...maybe 4 times a year.
That's it and that's really all there is to it.  Once it's second nature to you, you don't even have to think about it.  It's all automatic to you. I promise.

Thanks Paula! It sounds like you're talking about a lifestyle that supports a healthy weight. It is true that you have to change the way you do things if you want a different outcome.

I believe too many people focus on weight loss and not on body composition. While obesity or being overweight has been proven to be detrimental to your health, so can rapid weight loss. Improving one's body composition, the percentage of body fat and fat-free mass in one's body, also enhance's one's fitness, health and overall wellness.

There's no secret nor magic formula involved. There's hundreds of different plans which aim at achieving the same result. The common denominators are exercise coupled with healthy eating. Add in a proper attitude, goal setting and teamwork and there's a good recipe for success.

I hope this helps. I wish you all the best in finding your answer and achieve your goals!

      Kevin,
I am now getting the proper attitude. I am fired up to get in shape. I'm setting small goals, and I'm teaming up with my daughter-in-law to make something happen.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

Sprints, I train anywhere from 2-5 times a week and play flag football occasionally. When my waists gets a little pudgier than acceptable I'll work in a little more sprints and power skips to my routine. The way my body's metabolism responds for days and days afterword is astonishing. Although the differences are small I'm fairly lean 13% bf to notice them .

I think there are tons of "secrets" out there but the main thing is finding a method you can stay committed too. That is the worst thing for me. I think everyone is looking for a secret but really isn't a secret just something that someone stuck with for long enough to see true results?

I think one thing I found I loved and stuck with for a long time was Hot Yoga. It helped with my stress and took my mind off eating. It does burn tons of calories and detoxes your body but it only worked for me because I really enjoyed going. It did not become a chore to go a few times a week.

Drink more water.  Start everyday with a full glass of water.  I also recommend a protein shake in the morning.

I found cutting out all bread, pastas or starches like bananas, rice, I didn't even eat beans but they are hard on my stomach. I ate oatmeal many different ways, lots of yogurt, berries, veggies, except potatoes. No sugar or Salt  I used splenda but  I would use stevia this time and Idid eat meat, I lost 20 lbs in a month . I drank a lot of water and green tea among other herbal teas . I found that I slept better and usually I have alot of joint pain and tendon and muscle pain but this completely stopped when I went on this diet.  I  didn't stick to it but about a month and now I wish I had my joint pain is terrible and I'm ready  to go back on it.  I would buy fried wing dings about once a week and buy sugar free ice cream.  It worked very well for me and lost 7 lbs the first week.
