Is there prejudice against fat?
I have been fat and I have been thin-I think there is prejudice against fat. What do you think?
There is prejudice against fat, yes.
We live in a world is which attractiveness reaps rewards, and being fat is generally considered unattractive.
Fewer people want to sit next to the fat person on the bus, or go with the fat person to the beach. Being fat can negatively affect your employment prospects. The clothing industry discriminates (buying clothes is more difficult). Fat people have to contend with fat jokes and fat stereotypes.
Did that help?
Definitely. I know more than one successful business owner who would never hire an obese person (but might hire a person who is simply overweight). Is that fair? I honestly don't know. A job applicant might be competent, friendly, smart, and obese. The employer has to consider, somewhere in his/her inner mind's equation, that applicant's potential impact on the business' health care costs. That analysis results in prejudice. I don't condone unfair discrimination on any count, but these questions do make you think. I think that the prejudice exists.
Yes, I would say there is a definite prejudice against fat people. It is harder for them to get jobs, promotions, to adopt children, to start relationships and many, many more things.
I think there is not only prejudice against fat people but fat itself. How ridiculous is it for a package of gummy worms to post on its packaging that it is a "fat free food"!? Of course it is fat free it is made of mostly sugar! As a society we are so afraid of fat that we have even made different classes of fat. Is it saturated, poly, mono, or the dreaded trans variety?
i think there is but i don't know why everybody should be treated equally no matter size or ethnicity.
Certainly. We all like neatness and those people that are overweigh seem to be unkeep.
Over the past year I gained about eight pounds. When I gain a bit of weight it changes much of how I am perceived by others. I can tell you that YES I am absoluted treated differently when more fat is on my body. I am accepted into the "slim girls club" most of the time by the slim girls. But, with even 8 pounds on me-they kick me right out fo their club. I wonder if anyone will be honest enough to share that he/she actually does not like to talk to, hang out with or be friends with people who are even a big overweight?

What is your opinion on America's prejudiced outlook on the Muslim community? In the recent years I have been seeing more and more news about American hate-crimes against the Muslim community, mostly owing to the unrest in Middle Eastern Countries and 9/11. What are your views on this topic?

Can we all admit that there is some amount of racism or prejudice in us?When you think about it, it is completely natural to show prejudice against those who are different than us, and history has shown us that. Supremists are racists through and through, but doesn't the little bit of resentment in...
