Life Is too Short–Be a Happy Person

Source

Happiness is important and it's a feeling that every individual pursues to experience. Are you a happy person? How does it feel when you're happy? It feels so good since it brings a state of mind that is calm. The things we do in life on a daily basis, we do them with the aim that we may become happy after completing them.

Life is full of challenges and we are always competing so as not to lag behind in life. Every parent will be proud and happy to have children who are obedient, happy, responsible, loving and successful in life. A happy family is the one that is surrounded with love. When there is love in the family, siblings will take care of one another. They share their problems freely without having feelings that they will be rejected, criticized in a wrong way, severely blamed and make their siblings to be overburdened. Siblings accommodate the feelings of one another and they do not harm each other by being deceitful or hypocritical (stubbing at each other's back) but offer help where they can. Parents also have peace of mind and this makes them to live longer since they have a loving family.

A family that lacks love is always unhappy since it has many problems that are rarely solved as a family. Parents become distressed and suffer from diseases brought about by depression like stomach ulcer, high blood pressure etc. Such a family has children who are busybodies. Children hate one another and they do not care for each other. Unhappy family that lacks love quarrels more often and children rise against one another.

Have you read the story of Cain and Abel? Genesis 4:9 "Then the lord said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?" This is one occurrence in the Holy Bible whereby a brother lacked love. Cain did not love his own brother. Cain became uncomfortable because his brother Abel got blessings from God. Instead of Cain being happy of his brother's blessing from God, he became jealous of him.

Life is Too Short–Live to its Fullness

Life is too short therefore we should make use of it and live to its fullness. Ecclesiastes 9:10 "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going." We should not waste time in focusing on things that make us anxious. There is a lot we can do that will make us to progress in life instead of worrying thus becoming unhappy. All of us are gifted and we should appreciate the gifts we possess by making use of them to our best level.

One way of becoming a happy person is to have goals. The goals you have set to achieve will give you a purpose in life. Each day you'll be waking up knowing that you have goals to achieve in life. This makes you to work each day with a purpose.

Happiness is not sold nor purchased but it is a feeling of satisfaction or pleasure inside an individual. The feeling makes us to be cheerful and this makes the mind to relax. There is this song that was sung by Bobby McFerrin, "Don't Worry, Be Happy." Have you ever listened to that song? It is a catchy classical hit and it has a positive message.

McFerrin sent an inspiring message to millions of people out there who worry a lot. He advises us to stop worrying about our problems but instead we should be happy. This song made a wave of authentic happiness to prevail in homes, work places, streets etc.

Being happy is not only good for your health but also to those around you. Living your life in a positive way will help you to be healthy. Proverbs 17:22 "A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones." Happiness protects you from stress and will make you live longer.

Change is something that you can use to help in maintaining your happiness. Change always occurs in life. You can gain peace of mind even when things that you have no control of worsen by being optimistic that soon they'll change and become better. There is no unpleasant situation that lasts forever. Therefore, holding onto the fact that things are constantly changing then this can help you to overcome challenges of life.

Having cheerful people in your life is an essential choice towards being a happy person. You have to be willing to accept that each person you come across is unique. Accept the differences in others and learn to let go of resentment and anger towards others. Avoid arguments and negative criticisms. Work towards understanding and finding a common ground during unavoidable arguments. Listen to what others have to tell you and appreciate their opinions.

Everyone has the potential to be a happy person. Boosting your happiness and letting it lead you to a good quality life should be your goal. Being a happy person is really not that difficult, it is a choice you make. You just need to make a conscious decision to be a happy person. Abraham Lincoln acknowledged that it's upon individuals to choose to be happy when he said, "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

Each person has the ability to decide how happy he/she is. It is you to decide if you're going to be happy or to be worried as a result of having negative thoughts about life in general and the world. You should just make a choice of being a happy person.

10 Habits to Adopt Towards Being a Happy Person

1.) Be Thankful Always: Just look at everything you have so far achieved in life. Be happy and grateful for everything you have even although some of the things may be small. Don't take things for granted. Take time to let others know that you're thankful. This will make you to attract people in your life since they know that you are a thankful person. Every person who does something that is helpful deserves a thank you once in a while.

2.) Stop Complaining: You don't have to pretend bad things aren't happening, just don't submerge yourself in them by complaining now and again. Instead focus on improving them. It will be much better to do something to improve a situation other than complaining and doing nothing.

3.) Spiritual Growth: Spiritual growth is essential as it gives a person hope in life. Reading the Bible and praying to God brings happiness. Whether you join a church or read the Bible on your own, it will help you to grow spiritually and think positively about the world. There are people who had given up and contemplated of committing suicide but they changed their minds once they read the Holy Bible or listened to sermon that gave them hope. They realized that they have a reason to be happy and to live. Therefore spiritual growth is too important to be ignored.

4.) Practice Good Time Management: This is another thing to adopt in order to be happy. Managing your time well prevents stressful situations that bring worries. You need to have a schedule so as to manage your time effectively. Set specific goals and have a deadline for them. Plan out things so you can ensure you don't end up working in a way that is unproductive. Alan Lakein said, "Failing to plan is planning to fail." Lacking a plan will make you lose time, increase the chances of failing and you'll feel overwhelmed by all the work you have to do at the last minute of the deadline. Effective time management makes your life easy, reduces stress and allows you to maintain a happy attitude.

5.) Laughter: There are things like jokes that make us to laugh till tears run down our cheeks. Is laughing not happiness? Laughter makes problems to be forgotten for awhile. Of course, laughter is the best medicine. Read jokes on the internet, watch comedies, spend time with friends who love to tell jokes about friends that make you laugh. Concentrate on things that make you laugh instead of concentrating on the ones that brings sadness in your life.

6.) Don't Hold Your Feelings Inside: No matter what feelings you have, share them with others. Express how you feel about others. Find some way to get out your feelings so that they're not all contained within you. Bad feelings can accumulate and they will affect you in a negative way. "A problem shared is a problem halved."

7.) Accomplish Things Every Day: Each day, work in a way that is positive towards achieving your goals. Do have a positive attitude about your work. Finish projects before the deadline. Do something you have always wanted to do and do not get weary. Do things that make you to be happy. You feel important, content and happy when you accomplish something.

8.) Learn Something New: Learning brings about awareness. You can learn more about things happening around the world and many more other things that will enhance your life. You can expand your scope of learning and this will make you to see things from another perspective. You will increase your future opportunities by learning new things.

You should be willing to increase your knowledge. Learning is a process that is continuous in life. We are lucky to have the internet. It has a lot of information and you can use it to learn more about your profession or you can enroll an online course/degree programme.

There are many things that you can learn over the internet. You can also interact with people by joining social networking sites or engage in forum discussions. There is a lot to learn in life and age should not be a barrier.

Majority of websites are managed by professionals from various fields and they have got a lot of information that you can read. Use the internet to read articles and to search for information regarding issues that need to be solved.

9.) Doing Things that Make You Feel Alive: This could be as simple as dancing, reading an inspiration book or exercising your body. Appreciate your life on a regular basis by doing something that really makes you feel good. Avoid being exposed to things that bring about negative feelings or situations.

10.) Use Money Wisely: Have you heard of Thomas Tusser's proverb? "A fool and his money are soon parted." Money can make one to be stressed if not used wisely. Do not use money to buy things that will affect your health. You already know that money cannot buy happiness but lack of it will make one to live a miserable life. It is for this reason that you Must use your money wisely by investing it on things that will improve your life and the lives of others such as education, business so as to provide employment opportunities to people etc.

Of all these habits do not forget to take care of your health. Remember what Abraham Lincoln said regarding being happy. It is you to make a choice whether to be happy person or not to be since happiness is a feeling.
