Best Movie Quotes: Living a Great Life

Movies can make us think, feel, or just take us away from reality for a few hours. Often the stories contain a line or two that may really resonate with and inspire us. Here are 12 movie quotes that you can use to make your life even better.

1. Living Your Passion

Are you doing what you love? If not, take heed:

"Take your passion, and make it happen."
- Irena Cara et al in "Flashdance...What a Feeling" lyrics

"Get busy living, or get busy dying."
- Andy Dufresne in "The Shawshank Redemption"

2. Forgiveness

We get to choose how we react in any situation. When someone does something to hurt us or wrong us (whether real or perceived) we can choose to hold a grudge or we can let go.

"I was thinking how a man could spend thirty years in prison, and come out and forgive the men who did it to him..."
- Francois Pienaar in "Invictus"

3. Doing Your Best

No matter what the outcome is of a game or a challenge you take on, all you can do is your best.

"Win or lose... We're gonna walk out of this stadium tonight with our heads held high. Do your best. That's all anybody can ask for."
- Coach Boone in "Remember the Titans"

"How you play today, from this moment on is how you will be remembered."
- Coach Lengyel in "We Are Marshall"

4. Character

If life was always easy we wouldn't have the opportunity to grow. In order to achieve big dreams, we need to become more than we were when we began. Adversity is one of those things that challenges us to grow.

"Life is a journey within and adversity will come. But it's in the face of adversity true character shines through."
- The Goal movie

"Promise me you won't let nobody turn you into no cripple, you won't become no charity case, and you'll stand on your own two feet."
- Aretha Robinson in "Ray"

5. Just Being

Sometimes the best gift we can give someone is just being with them. It can be as simple as sitting on the front porch and talking or walking together besides a lake in silence.

"That might sound boring, but I think the boring stuff is the stuff I remember the most."
- Russell in "Up"

6. Making a Difference

We each make a difference in the world, even though we may not know it.

"You've been given a great gift, George. A chance to see what the world would be like without you."
- Clarence in "It's a Wonderful Life"

"You've taught this city how to trust the soul of a man rather than the look of him."
- Coach Yoast in "Remember the Titans"

7. Going After Your Dreams

As children most of us had many dreams of what we could be or achieve. Everything was possible. It still can be.

"Don't ever let someone tell you, you can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it."
- Christopher Gardener in "The Pursuit of Happyness"

"When your Mother walked out on us I promised God I'd do everything to help you boys follow your dream. You deserve this chance Santiago. Take it."
- "Goal!" movie

That's just 12!  There are so many more.  What movie quotes inspire you?

I really enjoyed this, and want to read more of your work.

You reminded me of an old quote that I have experienced many times,,,

" the quickest way to travel, is in good company "

Thank you for writing this , I loved it

I love these uplifting quotes. I really like the one at the end by Albert Einstein. It is so true that life is what we make of it. If we see miracles in the everyday things, we will have a joyous life. Thanks for inspiring me on this gloomy Minnesota day:)

Thanks for your comments.

Perception counts for a lot! We get to choose the filter through which we see things. At first we may just need to ask better questions to see things differently!

You reminded me how much I have gained from great movie lines. I like this one from The Edge: (when they are lost in the woods and being followed by a bear, Anthony Hopkins tells them that Indian boys fight bears with only their fists).

"What one Indian boy can do, I can do. What one man can do, I can do."
