Reading Without Glasses

In most cases blurred vision starts to occur in the middle ages. Most people aged from 40 and above find it necessary to use glasses when reading. This is a natural development fact that is to some extent unavoidable. But that’s where it begins and ends. While it’s important to grapple with reality that at some point in your life you’re going to deal with reduced vision you don’t have to live the rest of your life using glasses to read.

It is very possible to read without glasses through a method known as the Read without Glasses Method (RWG). This method will help reduce the use of glasses when reading and ultimately help you get rid of them. So what is the Read Without Glasses Method and the physiological mechanisms behind it?

Inability to read without glasses is linked to a condition known as Presbyopia. This is an age related condition where the crystalline lens in the eye loses flexibility thereby making it difficult to focus on objects that are close to you. After using reading glasses people with Presbyopia eventually adjust and are able to read but this only lasts for about two to three years and all of a sudden the glasses appear too weak forcing them to seek for stronger prescription. The need for stronger prescription increases with age and by the time you get to 60 you may experience formation of cataracts and macula degeneration.

So can you ever read without glasses again? A doctors’ answer would be no but with the Read without Glasses Method Presbyopia is reversible, preventable or in the worst case scenario delayed. But how is this possible? By applying an easy to perform eye exercise that optimizes the link between the brain and the eye. This method can be used by anyone and works towards increasing eyesight.

Draw two big red circles on a piece of paper. Proceed to look at the circles in a different way the main aim being to see three circles. Never mind that they’re only two circles, you should be in a position to see three circles by simply crossing the eyes. If you know how to perfectly close the eyes, chances are you may even see four circles. If you’re having a problem seeing three circles, relaxing the eyes slightly may help you.

You may have a problem crossing the eyes voluntarily. Follow the following procedure to make sure it happens. Hold a pencil in your hand and place the paper with the circles about 40 centimeters form your eyes. Place the tip of the pencil on the page in between the circles. Focus on that particular point before pulling it towards the bridge of your nose. Move the pencil slowly while focusing on the pencil point. If you keenly focus on the pencil point the two circles will appear as though they are divided and tend to overlap as the pencil gets to the middle point. That will effectively enable you to see three circles.

Some people will see three circles other won’t a fact attributed to shifting focus on the pencil point. So if you can’t get it right the first time, try again until you get it right. You may consult a behavioral optometrist if you unable to see three circles even after a number of trials. That you can see three circles means that you’re on your way to read without glasses and in essence improve Presbyopia.
