One more tip is to avoid lying down for 3 hours after a meal, this will give your body time to digest the food and it helps keep acid in your stomach where it belongs.

Here is a list of some of the foods that have a low risk of causing heartburn: Lean meats or extra lean meats, not fried, low fat dairy products or non fat dairy. Non acidic fruits such as apples, bananas,pears,peaches, whole grains, whole grain cereals, egg whites, low fat cheese. Most vegetables. Stay away from tomatoes, tomatoe sauces, onion and garlic.
