Could you eat bugs and insects if you had nothing else?

Just havin some fun ,but maybe ,just maybe insects really are part of your diet.

Ive eaten worms ,roasted insects that my dad said was popcorn , it really was nutty n crunchy lol ewwwww, but its true.

So what did you eat when you were a kid that would be considered unhealthy or bizare...

Grilled snake? Kangaroo meat ? ( In New Zealand ,they had Kangaroo burger imported from Aussie) but it didnt take off, thik it made people too jumpy lol

Also do ya think society in general has become a little to obscessed with germs and viruses and more interested in popping more pills?

and have swallowed numerous flying insects as a kid while riding my bicycle hmm

and yeah, I think society in general has become obsessed with a lot of things! there's a pill for everything~

I've been forced to eat many an appetizing creature and insect while in the military, and yes Americans as a whole have become way to preoccupied with germs and disease. We forget that when most of those that are mature now were young they lived lives considerably less clean and grew up strong and healthy with robust immune systems, but now that we are starting to see the results of our mad quest to sanitize everything our children are becoming allergic to everything and unable to tolerate even the common cold without drugs and medication.

My sister is in her second year of biochemistry, and according to her we are eating lots of bugs, especially in dates and raisins, so I guess I'll go with yes

To be honest its about survival , and I guess none of us can be totally sure ,and I hope we never have to find out.

I've eaten crickets and beetles while in Thailand and they're actually not bad. They didn't taste of much, just crispy, crunchy fried things.

  3. emievil profile image84
    emievilposted 7 years ago

Hmmm, I have eaten crickets. Crunchy and oh so chewy lol. Also, frogs, goats, duck's egg (with small chick inside) wink. Haven't eaten snake yet but they told me it taste like chicken (they always do LOL). There are a lot of things that we eat here that I don't want to enumerate as some people who might be reading this are still having their breakfasts/lunch right now smile.

Popping pills? As in, a little headache, go pop a pill stuff like that? smile

    1. Eaglekiwi profile image71
Eaglekiwiposted 7 years ago in reply to this

Oh yea no , dont mean general headache or mild creams n that ,but was thinkin how there are zillions of products for very basic stuff and its wow, outta control?
I mean whose to know those chemicals arnt doin more damage than eating the other crispy fe fi fo fum munchies ,I mean wild bugs wouldnt have chemicals or been sprayed either like all of our fruit n veges...just a thought.

During the summer I actually had a mature cheese with little warms in it (can't remember how you call them).  They were almost microscopic and came out when the cheese warmed up.  My French friends were delighted and ate it wash down with their best wine... So did I !!!

Scargots (snails) are a delicacy in France.
The first time I tried them in Spain I found them horribly disgusting but after that I tried them again in France and they were actually quite good.  I have eat them in salads, grilled with garlic butter and as a filling for petit fours... yummy!

If they are well made they are very tasty but if they are not properly cleaned before cooking it is rather disgusting to clean them on your dish.

Escargots are a delicacy! I dont think that qualifies anywhere near strange or bad. Kangaroo meat is lean and gamey and is pretty much a staple diet for some here in Australia though I've never tried it before.

I haven't eaten bugs, but me boys like to 'fry' grasshoppers on the hoods of vehicles and have them for dessert.  They have tried slugs, but said they are yucky and that they shrink too much when fried.  smile

I've had most types of wild animals that live in this region, and liked them too.  Mouse and rat are two that I don't want to try.  I think I'd rather eat bugs.

I hope so, but it would be tough. I once lived in a village in England, St. Neots, and annually they had an infestation of 'wheat bugs' and they were every where. They were tiny little insects and they were in your hair, on your teeth, up your nose so I'm sure I ate some! My wife would come home from the shops and by the time she got home she would be freak'in about her hair feeling alive!
