Has anyone had any success using NLP to cure their own neuroses.. I have been trying it, and it seems to work great! (and no, I am not selling anything!!!)
Do you work with an nlp technique or just use the presuppositions?
I found nlp has a positive impact in the short term, but after a longer while the problems keep coming back.
I don't know about using it to cure one's own neuroses, but I have seen success with changing my perceptions about myself. Simply being aware of what different body language means, and making a conscious choice about whether that is the message I want to give/attitude I want to have, has helped alot.
I did not know there were 'practitioners' who actually practiced it on others... Everyone I have met who uses it, is using it for their own gain -- usually over others.
NLP = Neurolinguistic Programming. A set of attitudes (called presuppositions) and techniques (that an nlp master practitioner uses on his or her patient) designed to change moods, beliefs etc. It is a form of therapy that promises to change just about anything about your thinking instantaneously (after a few sessions of therapy).
An example would be arachnophobia. They cure you out of it in one session, or else it's money back.
If it works for you, good. If it's not, use something else. That's what I always think. Just find a way to get to your goal. NLP is just a tool for people to use. (If you don't know about NLP, you can go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuro-ling … rogramming to learn more 'bout it).
I use NLP a lot with my clients. I am a personal trainer and sometimes it is necessary to facilitate a certain attitude before going in to work out.
To change the perception of working out as 'bad' or 'no fun' into something that is enjoyable.
NLP can be used to modify others' behavior around you. If someone expects you to say yes every time you say something, you can NLP yourself and the other person by simply telling them ahead of time, "the next time you ask me for something, I will say no". That is the presupposition or preconceived condition of the normal response. Now when the next person asks for something, the mind is prepared to say "no", and the person asking is prepared to hear "no".
A great NLP to use: "I think that I believe in you more than you believe in yourself." Best used by teachers or instructors of any sort to their students.
Any comment or action that causes immediate and long lasting introspection and self-analysis. An expressed observation of a person in order to facilitate extra self-awareness in that person.
NLP relates to the posture of the mind - mental attitude.
If a fighter attacks low, and I punish him for it, that is a form of Neurolinguistic Programming encapsulated in physical combat. I have now prepared the other fighter to attack high and myself to defend against high attacks. A preconceived notion of consequence.
Nlp is a truly dynamic field of Mind Technology. I became interested in hypnosis after extensively studying The Law of Attraction and finding the vital link between imagination, emotion and attracting what you want from the universe. Now, I really can't do without Richard Bandler's work. Richard Bandler is the founder of NLP btw.
He said NLP is a bit passe. It come from the idea of curing a neurosis. But, neurosis don't need to be cured. People need to learn new techniques for creating excellent states within themselves instead of recreating crappy states. Check out my hubs, I've got great examples.
