A basic know-how on medical procedure being extended by first aiders are important until the professionals (nurses, doctors) arrive to give proper care to the victims or patients.

Saved my husbands life.  Never thought when I was blowing into that training dummy, that a few months later I would be doing CPR for real on the old man!

With my little knowledge on First Aid, I was able to warn my captain about the condition of one Filipino crew who underwent appendectomy in Myanmar in 2001. My master argued with me that it was not, but I insisted and my hunch was right. Thanks for sharing, Kathryn.
