How Much Should I Weigh for My Height and Age?

· Do you know how much you should weigh?

· Does the BMI calculate healthy weight?

· Do you know how many calories your body needs?

· Do you know how to calculate BMR?

· Get the answers in this article.

This is a subject that comes up quite a bit, and for good reason. Many people just don't know how much is "too much" when it comes to weight.

We have a general idea, but does it really vary from person to person? So, let's discuss how much is the "ideal" weight for a person of a given height and age.

We'll begin with the body mass index, or BMI. It's a "rule of thumb" of sorts on how to find out if you're overweight or underweight.

Can BMI Determine Healthy Weight?

Typically, the BMI is equal to your body weight divided by the square of your height.

A BMI between 18.5 and 25 is considered normal, so you'll know if you're underweight if your BMI is less than 18.5, and you'll know if you're overweight if your BMI is greater than 25.

Obese individuals have a BMI greater than 30. Now, this has no bearing on how healthy you actually are; it's only a statistical number.

There are people who are considered obese who are healthier overall than those who are considered normal weight by this number.

Having more muscle can skew the BMI a bit. Look at the big picture when it comes to your health and use the BMI as part of that picture, but not the whole picture.

How Many Calories Should I Eat A Day

Now, if you're wondering how many calories you should eat in a day, a BMR calculator can help you find that out.

The BMR is the basal metabolic rate, also called the resting metabolic rate. It's the number of calories your body consumes every day in order to function-the baseline number, if you will.

There are three variables-your height measured in centimeters, your weight measured in kilograms, and your age.

Men typically need more calories than women, so that's why there are separate formulas for each. This way, you'll find out just how many calories you need to consume on a daily basis.

How Many Calories Do I Need?

Excess abdominal weight can be a problem, so the BMI can't completely be disregarded. It is a useful indicator for obesity, as is the BMR calculator.

If you're consuming fewer calories than your BMR calculation, you're burning more calories than you're taking in, which means you're bound to lose weight.

Eating around the same number of calories as your BMR will maintain your current weight, while eating more calories than your BMR will inevitably cause you to gain weight.

If you're trying to figure out how much you should weigh for your height and age, the BMI and BMR are two good places to start.
