Alternative medicine treatments

In the recent years alternative medicine treatments have moved from being something that hippies from the 60s practiced, into treatments that are growing in mainstream medicine. While many people think of yoga as an exercise class at the local gym, in truth, to many it is an alternative medicine that is one of many in a list of holistic medical treatments.

One mainstream University involved in integrative medicine takes traditional western medicine and integrates it with alternative medicine such as yoga. Duke Medicine claims that integrating the "best of Western scientific medicine with proven complementary therapies to address the whole person—body, mind, spirit, and community" is the best approach to medical treatment.

I like the information here. Interesting. Stuff I don't know.

Several thoughts. I like Yoga, first of all. After a yoga session, believe it or not, I was invited to a table of donuts. I have never in my life eaten a donut as slowly as I did that day. Totally in slow motion. I thought i was in some other dimension, and Yes I was.

There are probably many people who have been practicing Yoga for a long time and one of those courses seem really great to be able to certify all your experience so to speak, and legitimately instruct others.

There may be some people who may be "naturals" so to speak and 200 or 600 hours may just be sufficient.

But I am not sure if I would go to a brain surgeon with 200 hours or not even 500 hours of training, altho, to be honest, I haven't sat down and calculated what 200 hours or 500 hours actually looks like. For my license, in addition to formal training, I had a 3000 hour internship requirement. And I think Yoga may be as important as what I do, altho I know, demanding 3000 ours might be ridiculous. But I don't know. It is a very serious and helpful method of changing body and soul. So I want people out there to be well trained and experienced. Anywho, just some thoughts

Thanks Vern for your comment. I agree with you, 500 hours is little training compared to what you went through!!

Dim- I was with you on that so I checked out doing yoga for people "my size". I think there are many people who have restrictions to doing the bendy stretchy yoga we are all familiar with. There is adapted yoga however. Check out this hub about yoga for people like me who are overweight:
