Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism, Most Successful is Natural Cure

The thyroid gland is small endocrine gland located in the front of the wind pipe in the throat.

It produces the thyroid hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4)which increase cellular metabolism as well as other functions.such as our heart rate, how quickly we burn calories, digestion etc Babies and children need adequate amounts of thyroid hormones for brain development and growth.

The amount of thyroid hormones secreted is controlled by another hormone, called thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which is released from the pituitary gland in your head.

Thyroid gland posterior
Thyroid gland posterior

Hormones of thyroid gland T3/T4 are regulating:

Basal Metabolism :

  • increases basal metabolic rate
  • increases body temp (calorigenesis)
  • increases appetite

Carbohydrate, lipid & protein Metabolism :

  • promotes glucose catabolism for energy
  • stimulates protein synthesis
  • increases lipolysis
  • enhances cholesterol excretion in bile

  • promotes normal cardiac function

Nervous System:

  • promotes normal neuronal development in fetus and infant
  • promotes normal neuronal function in adult
  • enhances effects of sympathetic nervous system

Musculoskeletal :

  • promotes normal body growth and maturation of skeleton
  • promotes normal function and development of muscles

  • promotes normal female reproductive ability and lactation

As we can see, it is extremely important to have healthy thyroid gland, if not, hormonal imbalance causes real chaos in the body and in the mind.

Thyroid hormone regulation--the chain of command

The thyroid itself is regulated by another gland located in the brain, called the pituitary. In turn, the pituitary is regulated in part by thyroid hormone that is circulating in the blood (a "feedback" effect of thyroid hormone on the pituitary gland) and in part by another gland called the hypothalamus, also a part of the brain.

The hypothalamus releases a hormone called thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which sends a signal to the pituitary to release thyroid stimulating hormone (TS). In turn, TSH sends a signal to the thyroid to release thyroid hormones. If overactivity of any of these three glands occurs, an excessive amount of thyroid hormones can be produced, thereby resulting in hyperthyroidism.

Hypothalamus - TRHPituitary- TSHThyroid- T4 and T3

The rate of thyroid hormone production is controlled by the pituitary gland. If there is an insufficient amount of thyroid hormone circulating in the body to allow for normal functioning, the release of TSH is increased by the pituitary in an attempt to stimulate the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone. In contrast, when there is an excessive amount of circulating thyroid hormone, the release of TSH is reduced as the pituitary attempts to decrease the production of thyroid hormone.

Symptoms of hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which an overactive thyroid gland is producing an excessive amount of thyroid hormones that circulate in the blood.

Thyroid hormones stimulate the metabolism of cells. The thyroid gland removes iodine from the blood (which comes mostly from a diet of foods such as seafood, bread, and salt) and uses it to produce thyroid hormones.

The symptoms of hyperthyroidism may include:

  • enlarged thyroid gland
  • nervousness
  • mental impairment, memory lapses, diminished attention span
  • a lot of fears
  • depression
  • mood swings
  • irritability, angryness, aggressive behaviour
  • trembling hands
  • fatigue
  • insomnia or need for extremely lot of sleep
  • diarrhea
  • itchy skin
  • unexplained weight loss despite increased appetite
  • heart palpitations
  • heat intolerance
  • increased sweating
  • muscle weakness
  • hair loss
  • increase in bowel movements
  • decrease in menstrual periods
  • eye irritation

Treatments of classical medicine for hyperthyroidism-

There are 3 ways of treatments classical medicine uses for hyperactive thyroid:

1.Anththyroid drugs

There are two main antithyroid drugs available for use in the United States, methimazole (Tapazole) (in my country is Athyrazol) and propylthiouracil ( PTU). These drugs accumulate in the thyroid tissue and block production of thyroid hormones. PTU also blocks the conversion of T4 hormone to the more metabolically active T3 hormone. The major risk of these medications is occasional suppression of production of white blood cells by the bone marrow (agranulocytosis). (White cells are needed to fight infection.)

Side effects of the antithyroid drugs are:

Major adverse reactions (which occur with much less frequency than the minor adverse reactions) include inhibition of myelopoieses (agranulocytosis, granulocy-topenia, and thrombocytopenia), aplastic anemia, drug fever, a lupuslike syndrome, insulin autoimmune syndrome (which can result in hypoglycemic coma), hepatitis ,etc...Minor adverse reactions include skin rash, urticaria, nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, arthralgia, paresthesia, loss of taste, abnormal loss of hair, myalgia, headache, pruritus, drowsiness, neuritis, edema, vertigo, skin pigmentation, jaundice, sialadenopathy, and lymphadenopathy.

If someone is taking drugs in healing the hyperthyroidism, it is not recommended to gett pregnant, while being on drugs. Drugs are affecting baby`s body system as well, through the placenta, and is high possibility of many disorders in fetus. It is recommended to heal thyroid gland at first, then to plan to have the baby.

2.Treatment with radioactive iodine

Unfortunately, radioactive iodine (Radioiodine)is the most widely recommended permanent treatment of hyperthyroidism. This treatment was first time used 50 years ago and takes advantage of the fact that thyroid cells are the only cells in the body which have the ability to absorb iodine. In fact, thyroid hormones are experts at doing just that. By giving a radioactive form of iodine (131Iodine) gives off a poisonous type of radiation, the thyroid cells which absorb it, will be damaged or killed. Because iodine is not concentrated by any other cells in the body, there is very little radiation exposure (or side effects!) for the rest of the body. Actually the aim of this treatment is to cause permanent hypothyiroidism. Which needs to be "healed" -with artificial hormones again. The vicious circle goes again. No actual healing, just suffering. Radioiodine treatment kellse healthy cells of thyroid gland, killed thyroid as such. And as any radioactive element - can cause development of tumors and cancer, anywhere in the body. The primary risk from exposure to high levels of 131I is the chance occurrence of radiogenicc thyroid cancer in later life. Other risks include the possibility of non-cancerous growths and thyroiditis (Hashimoto`s).

Medicine says that only thyroid absorbs radioactive iodine, so someone who goes on the treatment is protected from radioactivity, and that is not truth: radioactivity is an energy, when you apply it to iodine, this radioactive energy will not be obedient and politely stay only on iodine, just because some doctors say so, it will do what is in its nature: it will spread its negative influence on every cell in the body. This type of treatment is based on the fact, that thyroid gland and thyroid cells are absorbing huge amount of any kind of radioactivity, actually they are just more capable of absorbing radioactivity then any other cells in the body. After nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, there is much more cancer of thyroid gland developed in former Soviet Union, especially in Ukraine, and very often that affects young people.

The scientific fact is also that whole Europe and the rest of the world suffered a lot because of that disaster, and in last 20 years is much more problems with thyroid gland developed then ever before, in my country as well. It is very rare that someone has thyroid gland in permanently healthy condition. That is because thyroid gland has high capability to store radioactivity, it is not only connected with iodine only , then with radioactivity as such.

Within the USA, the highest 131Iodine fallout doses occurred during the 1950s and early 1960s to children who consumed fresh sources of milk contaminated as the result of above ground testing of nuclear weapons. The National Cancer Institute provides additional information on the health effects from exposure to 131Iodine in fallout,[2] as well as individualized estimates, for those born before 1971, for each of the 3070 counties in the USA from the nuclear weapons tests conducted at the Nevada Test Site.

Surgery to partially remove the thyroid gland (partial thyroidectomy) was once a common form of treatment for hyperthyroidism. The goal is to remove the thyroid tissue that was producing the excessive thyroid hormone. However, if too much tissue is removed, an inadequate production of thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism) may result. In this case, thyroid replacement therapy is begun. The major complication of surgery is disruption of four tiny glands in the neck that regulate calcium levels in the body (the parathyroid glands). Accidental removal of these glands may result in low calcium levels and require calcium replacement therapy.

Usually, whoever goes on thyroidectomy, has to use thyroid replacement therapy afterwards, because surgery causes hypothyroidism. If thyroid gland is to swollen and full of polyps, it hay to be completely removed, with all cause effects afterwards.

Removing thyroid gland is horrible experience for most of people, because it affects all above mentioned functions of body systems and organs. Artificial hormones cannot solve the problem (it is very difficult to prescribe right dosage, because glands are using body intelligence in producing the hormones and they are checking real needs of the body, drugs cannot do the same) pituitary gland also gets confused, send confused and wrong signals to the other endocrine glands as well, and most often result is complete hormonal imbalance again, which is killing the health of the body.

Hyperthyroidism and pregnancy

During pregnancy, the hormone HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is produced. HCG is the hormone that "pregnancy tests" detect. HCG increases to a peak at around 12 weeks. It has mild thyroid stimulating effects and, as a result, can cause some symptoms of hyperthyroidism. HCG is in part responsible for the nausea during the first trimester. In situations of multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets) HCG levels are even higher, and symptoms can be more pronounced. Temporary hyperthyroidism occurs in 10-20% of normal pregnant women during this period, and these women typically do not require treatment.

But whe someone already has hyperthyroidism, HCG can produce much bigger problems to mother and the child.

Pregnancies complicated by uncontrolled hyperthyroidism may result in higher incidences of:

  • Spontaneous abortion
  • Preterm labor
  • Low birth-weight babies
  • Complications of pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia (a condition associated with hypertension, low blood platelet count, protein in the urine and mental changes) and heart failure.

In the beginning of having hyperthyroidism, it can happen that body heales itself and attain complete hormonal balance (I know one case), but if hyperthyroidism persist for longer period, pregnancy is very big risk, especially for heart of the mother wich is excausted of often tachycardia symptomes. Using the drugs for tachycardia, can make many problems to fetus. There is no drug wich is completely harmless for baby.

During the pregnancy, it is forbidden to use radioactive iodine. Surgery is causing hypothyroidism, wich has to be healed with Euthyrox /hormonal supplement for thyroid hormones), wich is problematic for fetus/baby again, as well as for mother, because of many side effects, which are very alike to hyperthyroidism.

Official medicine do not recommend pregnancy, while having overactive thyroid gland.

Alternative medicine recommends to heal thyroid gland, causes of thyroid hyperactivity as well as hearth and immune and nervous system at first and then to get pregnant. In case pregnancy already occurred, we would heal the mother and the child on natural ways.

Alternative healing - Homeopathic Remedies & my experience

Usually, it is very easy to heal endocrine glands by using natural ways of healing. They respond very quickly on natural healing methods (Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, menopause and lack of estrogen and progesterone hormones, problems with periods, adrenal glands...etc). Classical medicine cannot heal them with its aggressive methods of healing, and endocrine glands need gentle and natural ways, which support their natural activities. They produce hormones - (hormones = feelings) that is the reason we have to be extremely tender with endocrine glands, not to force them in any way with drugs, radioactivity or remove them with surgery. Usually, aggressive methods are creating even higher level of hormonal imbalance, uncontrolled chaos in organism, which is resulting with much bigger illnesses of physical body, as well as psychological ones !

Average cause of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism is stressful life.

Hyperthyroidism is autoimmune disease, a misdirected immune response that occurs when the immune system attacks the body itself, instead of defending the healthy state.

I have had hyperactive thyroid gland for many (more then 10) years with following symptoms:

chronic fatigue syndrome, nervousness, fears, tachycardia - very often painful (I healed that at first with auto-Reiki treatments), quick changing the moods (negativity, big anger even the hate "out of the blue sky"), sometimes increased sweating. I usually needed nor less then 10-12 hours of sleep per day. Whenever I had opportunity, I was able to stay in deep sleep for over 20 hours.

When I found out that causes of these symptoms is overactive thyroid gland, I prepared to myself homeopathic remedies which I was regularly taking (almost every day) for approx. 1 year:

1. Anti stress remedy

(Kali Phosphate, Passiflora, Sumbul, Valeriana, Avena Sat, Coffea, Ignatia) This was calming and healing my nervous system, so I did not react on non-existing or real stressful conditions with panic or anger, I was able to react peacefully, with patience, love and understanding. I started to vibrate different towards people, so they did not want to attack me or argue with me any more, nor I with them (what was occurring before, because of overactive hormones of thyroid).

2. Anti hyperthyroid remedy - for soothing its over-activity

Combination of remedies that calms overactive thyroid gland and helps attaining normal production of thyroid hormones. (first results are shown in few days on laboratory tests, but one can feel completely different in just few hours after first taken dose .Later on, people can feel difference few seconds after taking the remedy.)

3.Against heart palpation and for regeneration the heart

4. For immune system

Part of homeopathic therapy is based on the fact that all our organs and body systems have their own vibration, if that one is disrupted, we must to "remind" them on healthy vibration, and they will naturally accept it. Actually every our organ or body system prefers to be in healthy vibrational state. After reminding it on that healthy state, self-healing process begins, and healthy state completely returns after some time.

Usually it takes 3-12 months for complete healing overactive thyroid gland with  homeopathic remedies.

After some time, when hormonal balance is permanently attained, there is no need for taking remedies any more (only sometimes, in cases of big stress).

Please order counseling for homeopathic healing (as well as you can order the remedies) on my e-mail mihaelat999@yahoo.com Fee for e-mail consultations is 50 US$.

Hypoactive thyroid gland

Thyroid becomes hypoactive because of various reasons, f.E as lack of iodine in the food, exposure to radiation or some chemicals, it also slows down as autoimmune reaction of the body.

Very often reason for slowing down thyroid is imbalance of sexual hormones or dropping down of sexual hormones in middle age.

There are herbal remedies that successfully activate thyroid gland and also help pituarity gland to be active for sufficient TSH production.

One of such remedies is Thyroid Assist,

Thyroid Assist Benefits:

  • Supports pituitary gland production of the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
  • Maintains T3 & T4 levels already within normal range
  • Promotes a balanced endocrine system
  • Improves energy levels
  • Maintains balanced metabolism and healthy weight
  • Supports other functions of endocrine system for healthy emotions, fertility, growth & temperature
  • Ingredients:Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosis) is a sea vegetable which is a prime source of iodine – an ingredient that can greatly aid thyroid support, Green Oats (Avena sativa) that improves vital energy and also boosts sexual power, Makandi (Coleus forskohlii), ayurvedic herb that supports thyroid function.

This remedy works great in combination with remedy Fatigue Figther, which ingredients (Siberian Ginseng, Gotu Kola, Olive Leaf) help addionally boosting the thyroid, overal stamina, improve immunity and significantly increase energy levels. This combination also helps to achieve balanced weight, what is very often problem with hypoactive thyroid. Fatigue Fighter also help people with slugish thyroid to increase again brain power.

Highly recommendent to be bought in combination, you can buy them through my website: Natural Healing - Thyroid Gland . These remedies are (drop)shipped from USA and produced according to FDA rules and regulations.

On this part of website, you will also find another suggestions for your thyroid problems, so you can choose.

Diet and Thyroid Gland

Thyroid health can also be supported by a healthy diet, but do not expect to heal it with diet only..It is NOT so simple! Certain foods are high in iodine (e.g. seaweed, sushi) and would benefit those with a sluggish thyroid. Others (cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower) contain natural thyroid blockers and would benefit those whose thyroids needed some slowing down.

If you have hyperactive thyroid, strictly avoid the following herbs, as they may stimulate hyperthyroidism: ashwagandha ( Withania somnifera ) and bladderwrack ( Fucus vesiculosus ). Also avoid stimulating herbs such as gotu kola ( Centella asiatica ), ephedra, caffeinated green tea products, and Chinese or Korean ginseng ( Panax ginseng ) .

Dear Tony, further suggestions:

Use Homeopathic Remedy called Thyroidinum in an 8x potency and follow the directions. It will help stimulate the natural thyroid to start producing.

Tap the thyroid gland gently 10 times, three times a day to try to stimulate gland.

A good supplement to add is Tyrosine 400. It is an amino acid that has had promising results in aid the regulating hypothyroid conditions.

Take vitamins/mineral supplements every day. Love and Light

Thyroid Homeopathic and Naturopathic 7 years ago

Hi Tatjana,

Thank you so much for this hub! I recently had a blood work done with, and the results was T4=26.0, TSH=0.012, T3 Uptake= 43, T3 Uptake Free Thyroxine=11.2, Triiodothyronine=795. Do you know of any Homeopathic and Naturopathic doctors located in Atlanta, GA or Ft. Lauderdale, FL? Thanks Again!

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 7 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Hi, THN,

I personaly do not know any Homeopath/Naturopath in Atlanta...but, by seing your blood tests and with using pendulum, I can strongly recommend you that you use ThyroSoothe, MoodCalm and ImmunityPlus, from Native remedies, if you decide so, you can purchase them through my Amazon.com link in my hub, just above the comments are pictures and links. It is very good they suggest thyroSooth in combination with DetoxDrops, because t4 transforms in T3 in the liver. So, liver needs gentle cleaning as well.

I have checked the prices, and is much cheaper to buy this remedies through the Amazon.com.

ThyroSoothe is on herbal basis, MoodCalm is homeopatic, Immunity Plus is herbal, and all of them should be diluted in water. I strongly recommend diluting homeopatics in the water, because they become stronger on that way, because they energize all water.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me....

I wish you all the best, and quick healing of your problem...In just few days, you will feel the difference...although for permanent healing it takes a little bit longer, but believe me, is such relief having thyroid normal functioning! I wish you the same from all my heart.

My mother, and grand mother have hyper thyroid, and I was told I should be tested for it, also, as it is hereditary. I know they both pay a lot of money each month for prescriptions, and I was wondering if they could get away with taking natural herbs, also, to save them some money...

Yes, of course. When you put comment on one other my Hub,about your moods-changing, I checked you quickly with pendulum, and have seen you have the problem with thyroid. A lot of people do have, actually, and very often ordinary blood tests do not show that.

I will recommend you which remedies you should take, but have to ask you some questions, we will do it through the e-mail.

It's so refreshing to see a forum with positive thoughts and feedback.

I have looked on several and they were so depressing and I thought maybe all the forums were like this until now.

I would ask however have you been able to rid yourself of your thyroid condition?

I am determined to do so myself :-)

I have NO thyroid! It was removed in 2006 as it was covered in large tumours, was 9cm across and the weight of it had dropped into my chest cavity and was compacting my trachea and suffocating me to death. I have to take thyroxine every day but am really struggling as my blood levels are in the normal range, but my teeth and nails are becoming brittle, fatigue, bladder infections, high blood pressure and swollenlegs and feet. Doctors here don't have a clue so will be seeing an endocrinologist when I go back home.

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 7 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Hi, Cindy,

There is problem they removed your parathyroid glands as well.(they are part of thyroid but with different funtction) Parathyroid glands controll level of calcium, and corespond with health of teeths, nails and bones. Parathyroid hormones are not the same as thyroid hormones, so check the level of them - actually I believe you have none parathyroid hormones at all, so all these problems occurred. Because you do not have enough of calcium, your kidneys do not work well (result - bladder infection), you have no energy, your teeth, nails and bones are suffering, because body is using resources of calcium from your nails, teeth, bones....

Also check - all hormonal levels - estrogenes, progesterones, testosterone, hormones of pituarity gland, adrenal gland....

When doctors remove any endocrine gland - results are horrible, because endocrine glands are much more influencing our overal health that doctors know.

Is there any part of thyroid left - or they just removed it completely?

If you still had thyroid, even covered with tumors, with remedies and bioenergy, I would be able to heal it in one or two months completely. Tumors are not problem - bioenergy, DIET and adequate remedies which balance hormones, can heal that very easily.

Dispite everything, there are significant improvements in health which can be done with combination of homeopathic/radionic remedies, calcium, and energetic healing . Energetic healing is important, because in your energy fields - your thyroid/parathyroid still exist.

Cathy  7 years ago

Your website and information are very interesting. Do you think that my twenty year old daughter will be able to heal a thyoid nodule without surgery. She has had it for eight years and we have tried many different methods of alternative healing without success. The growth is large and on her right side and it was diagnosed as a hot nodule producing too much thyroid hormone. Believe it or not her health is very good and she is active although she sometimes gets a racing heart. I am so afraid for her to have surgery because this gland is so important to her body. She is very embarrassed about it and always wears high collared shirts and sweaters. Do you think there is any hope for this to dissolve without surgery? Thanks.

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 7 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Thanks, Cathy, she does not need surgery. Do not allow surgery, if they remove the gland, they might be big problem (with teeth, with nerves, with metabolism, with immunity.)

What natural methods she tried?

Does somebody in family have problem with thyroid as well?

Cathy  7 years ago

Thanks for your reply. We have tried homeopathy, chinese herbs, western herbs, energy healing (photos put under a tray which sent healing frequencies) vitamins, noni juice, hypnosis, tapping, rubbing iodine on the thyroid. When she has the racing heart, I give her liquid magnesium which helps to slow it down. Any advice would be so much appreciated as I am getting desperate for my daughter. By the way, we eat only organic foods and have a good diet.

Cathy  7 years ago

Oops, I forgot. My husband has multiple sclerosis and I have an aunt who had an overactive thyroid and had it removed many years ago. She is seventy now. I think my dad had a relative with thyroid problems.

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 7 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Most probably the problem is connected with some other hormonal imbalance in her body and low immunity.

1. Herbs usually do help, if only thyroid is involved. But pituarity gland is also trhigger for thyroid, and sexual hormones too. Which hormonal blood test she has done and results?

2. Energy healing so often does not help with hyperactive thyroid (my case), it is easier to heal hypoactive on that way.

3. Which homeopathic did she take ? If you used "single remedy homopathy" do not be surprised if it did not help. I always prepare combinations.

4. Does your daughter believe that she can be healed?

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 7 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

BTW, Cathy, I prepare excellent remedies, which very differ from classical homeopathy, because I use combinations and have targeted organo-remedies and combinations which slow down and heal hyperactive thyroid for sure (I had problem with thyroid for many years, and remedies helped me, as well as to the others )

But before I promise anything, I need to be sure about real cause, and your daughter needs to fully cooperate in the process of healing....that means she needs to believe in the possibility of complete healing....

I have hyperthyroidism and am due to see a specialist due to an irregular heartbeat, after a test done my GP. My GP did say that possible treatments are radioactive iodine, surgery or continue with my current medication - carbimazole. Having read about the first two treatments, I'm reluctant to go for them as they would reduce my chance of trying for a baby. At the same time, I had an op to remove an ovarian cyst when I was 3 month's pregnant with my first child. What's your opinion?

I have an underactive thyroid. Been on medication for 5 years, still feel sluggish and gaining weight. Since diagnosis I am 40 kilograms heavier!

Interested in the natural way. Is it possible to heal thyroid after so long?

Hi, Nat, yes it is possible to heal thyroid after 5 years, why not? Your thyroid is still alive.

Hi, Tatjana, I was really interested to read this hub. I was diagnosed with hyper thyroid back in 2003, and it had got very very high. The doctor told me to go home and stay there as it had got to dangerous levels. The Dr. gave me carbamazole, and I was so ill. My muscles in my body got very very painful, they called it mialga but it felt like I had been run over. After reading a book about it I went to the doc again and said I know now it is the tablets doing it. The Dr. just looked bewildered. but changed my tablets. I was really annoyed, they should have told me Carbamazole was dangerous. The Dr. didn't know anything. Then I had the radiation tablet, which wasn't a problem. Now my thyroid is too low and I have to take thyroxine. I Take vitamins, but the one thing you have to be careful of is not to take any vitamin tablets with iodine in it. Always check because thyroxine is iodine based, and it can make your thyroid go high again. It took me about a year to get sorted out, and touch wood, now it is fine. Thanks again Nell

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid a few months after radiation therapy (for breast cancer) ended. Istarted taking Synthroid and my levels normalized, but I'm not losing weight. I'm not gaining anymore eitherm which is good, but I need to lose weight - can I double up on my Synthroid to help get my thyroid activated to lose weight faster? Also, my Dr says I have Hashimotos but I'm not sure I do - he didn't tell me how or why he knows I have Hashimotos....any ideas?

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 6 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Hi Lily,

YOU SHOULD NOT PLAY WITH doubling up SYNTHYROID to loose your weight. Please do not do it. The effect would be as of hyperthiroidism, with all negative effects of it (very fast and irregular heart beating- you can get serious problems with heart, even high blood pressure etc.) with no influence on your weight (it is not everyone who has hyperthyroid slimm).

In addition - SYNTHYROID is causing the same problems with weight to many women who take it (women usually do not loose weight on Synthyroid, this is common side-effect of taking it).

The cause of your problem now might be...in combination of the following reasons:

1. In Synthyroid

2. in other hormones that are most probably also imbalanced (it is not thyroid only involved in problem with weight)

3. in type of food you eat (I do not talk about calories)

4. you very probably have edema (water retention) so weight might be caused by excess of fluid in your body....

Of course, to give you completely precise answer and suggest solutions for it, I would for sure need more details (but I charge for consultations, LOL, you can contact me if you are interested).

Doctors do not have time neither energy for all patients they have, so very often they give dyagnosis without any additional research...(like your alleged Hashimoto is).

Please do not try to double up Synthyroid!

I have Hyperthyroid & im now on my 3rd medicine and my numbers are worse. My 1st doctors appointment was November 2009 & nothing has worked so far. Pleas Help?

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Hi Shalonda. Majority of people with hyperthyroid do not react well on medicines, so do not be surprised that they do not work for you. (Only minority of hyperthyroid cases have positive respond on medicines, but very often they never get completely healed).

As I mentioned in my Hub, I personally prepare remedies for this condition, that consist from various homeopathics, so I would be glad to help you. On that way, by regular using them, your condition would start to gradually improve already in few days (for complete healing it takes several months)

The number of remedies I prepare for this case is usually 2-3, according to your symptomes, price of each one is 29 $ quantity is for circa 5 weeks.

If you decide so, please contact me on my e-mail, mihaelat999@yahoo.com

Nice regards

I was diagnosed with multi thyroid nodules in 2003 and had various different tests but the thyroid function was normal. I had blood tests every 6 months to test the function. Then at the end of March 2010 my thyroid became overactive and the right nodule has grown considerablly. I have now been told that surgery is the only option.

I am terrified I have two young daughters and do not want to be functioning with tablets for the rest of my life.

I'm an Aromatherapist and have always used alternatives.

Please help, I feel like time is running out and I do not like being on carbimazole.

Is their any possibility these nodules can be shrunk with alternatives and diet so my thyroid function returns to normal

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 6 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Hi Howel,

many people have thyroid nodules (percentage very much increase with age) and they are most often harmless and common appearance that do not cause any health problem.

One your nodule is growing bigger now just because your thyroid became hyperactive, the cause is usually stress, fears or some other hormonal imbalance in body that affects thyroid.

If your nodule is benign, there is no reason for surgery, altough some doctors like to suggest surgery for every hyperthyroid condition(even without any good reason for that)

Hyperactive thyroid can be healed relatively easily, on natural ways.

Diet cannot solve problem with overactive thyroid, neither nodules, unfortunately, its function is more as prevention...altough is good to be on healthy diet as a support for overall health and support for immune and hormonal system...so it is good to follow above mentioned instructions.

I also suggested some other ways of healing thyroid in my Hub.

If you are interested to order homeopathic remedies that I prepare for such conditions to my clients on individual basis - according to the symptomes and overal health condition(I am sending them to my clients worldwide, BTW, I am in Europe) your overactive thyroid would gradually calm down and return in normal, balanced state, so your nodule would became small again. First results you would feel in few short days, majority of people say that they feel big difference already next day of using, altough to complete process of healing it usually takes several months.

I usually prepare 2 or 3 remedies for problem of hyperactive, what depends of symptomes, I would need to know few more details - to determine cause of your thyroid hyperactivity.

I would be glad to help you on way I suggested, info about remedies is above, you can contact me on my e-mail, mihaelat999@yahoo.com

Hello Tatjana, I read your article and felt great. I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism (about 2 years). I was taking livothyroxin .50 mcg daily and since last 9 months i have tried following homeopathy medicines.

1. Lycopodium 200 for 3 months (once a month)

2. Baryta-Carb 200 (once eery 4 days)

I am checking TSH every 3rd month. Initially when i started Lycopodium the results were good. But later TSH was growing and now is 6.58. Please suggest me any homeopathy / natural remedy. Thank you so much.

Hi Deepak,

you are taking "general thyroid remedies" that classical homeopathy uses for hypothyroidism what is today rarely sufficient for activating thyroid. Unfortunately, many homeopaths try to heal people on the same way as 150 years ago, when life and condition of life were completely different then today.

Hyperthyroidism can have several causes (hormonal, enviromental, autoimmune, stress, inheritance, lack of certain minerals etc) and should be treated according to the specific cause of it (that should be determined through the consultation) , age (!) plus all symptoms you have. Your diet should be also adjusted to thyroid problem.

I work with my clients on the following way:

1. Counselling /consultation on e-mail basis come the first. I send questionary that is completely adjusted to the problem you have that helps me to determine the cause of your health problem. After that I give detailed explanation of my findings, recommend or personally prepare combination of remedies (that work for sure), suggest the diet and give all other advices that would help someone to easier heal the health problem.

Anyway, hypothyroidism is not harmless, lack of thyroid hormones affects your brain, blood, health of bones, immune system, health of all your endocrine glands including prostate health etc )and you should treat it on more reliable way then up till now.

Fee for counseling is 50 USD. You can contact me through my e-mail mihaelat999@yahoo.com and I will send you questionary and instructions for payment. I will be more then glad to help you.

Being involved in the use of natural therapy I really love what you have put on this Hub. I believe that modern medicine has become much too complicated people jump too quickly to what they believe to be the Best treatment advised by their doctors. I don't recommend people totally ignore their doctor's advice, but I suggest people should try some more natural methods of healing, especially when the modern treatments are sometimes so extreme.

Natural healing methods will not work for everyone, but my suggestion is try it, and if it doesn't work for you try something else.

Many people are coming to terms that Natural Medicine works and more and more people are even combining modern treatments with natural treatments. I guess it's a bit like having a bet each way.

More information like this Hub will hopefully influence people to give natural methods a try.

Sorry to go on, but am very passionate about this topic, well done Tatjana

I am from the Philippines. I have nodular goiter since 2001 as discovered by my OB-Gyne 4 months after giving birth. I took levothyroxine for almost 5 years but the nodules are still here. I tried some herbal preparations as recommended by friends but no effect. I don't want to be operated and remove my thyroid gland because I know these are important for me to live. Please tell me what to do to completely eliminate these 3 nodules according to the ultrasound. One increases its size while the two remain unnoticed. Please help. Thank you so much.

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 6 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Hi Glenda I need a lot of additional info. There are also several types of nodular goiter, not only one.

I need to know the following:

What are your hormonal levels now? What were your hormonal levels when you started with levothyroxine? How old are you? Did you try herbs together with levothyroxine or on their own? Which herbs? For how long you were taking them? BTW, herbs are not working for everyone, nodular goiters are specific problem, there are other natural options as well. Are you still on levothyroxine? BTW, levothyroxine usually do not have any effect on nodules !!! it has effect only on the levels of T3 and T4 in your blood...

What are SYMPTOMS you have? Any other diseases you might have? Do thyroid problems run in your family? (plus some few questions more...)

If you need consultations, I would be glad to help you, I belive there is solution for your problem, you will not need to go to surgery, but I need to know all details, before I give recommendations. I also charge the fee for that my service, because this is my full time job, and I need time end energy for that. Fee is 50 US$, so please contact me on my e-mail, mihaelat999@yahoo.com .

Hey there! great article. It's just now that I noticed stress as a big factor why people develop thyroid problems..

My dad has a Hyperthyroidism and his mood swings and emotional outbursts are just extreme. I don't know exactly what meds he use as maintenance but surely would love to find other effective ways. I don't want to see him like that. :/

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 6 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Hi Eric, unfortunatelly meds help to only some people.

Thyroid affects overproduction of other hormones, so it is very hard to keep emotional control.

There is also a cause underneath his illness, (psychological or lack of certain minerals as Zinc or Calcium, or other hormonal imbalance he has in the body) so if cause is found, he can be completely healed on natural way and emotions will calm down.

Tatjana-Mihaela profile image

Tatjana-Mihaela 6 years ago from Zadar, CROATIA Author

Hi NTC, the answer for your question requires writing new article about this topic, or personal consultation.

Hair loss is often NOT CONNECTED WITH THYROID ONLY, there are other factors involved in that problem that thyroid triggered (other hormones and nutritients, blood circulation in scalp etc).

When I give personal consultation I also give the explanation how to quickly and successfully solve the problem of hair loss.

BTW, you never heard about reciprocal linking? Your message is spam.

Hi JIncy, if you stopped to use medications, there will not be side-effects, but you need to start with natural therapy (remedies) for sure because hypothyroidism is not harmless and it should be treated somehow. Of course treatmant depends of what caused your thyroid problem.

Hello, I am trying to keep my chin up as this is new to me. I am pleased to see a positive outlook on healing.... as western medicine is not sufficiently answering my questions. I found a lump in my thyroid and did bloodwork and my T3/4; only 1 of them was slightly high. The byopsy indicated atypical "abnormal" cells (not cancerous as the DR informed me) and the ultrasound picked up a 1.3cm nodule. The specialist said that "they" don't look into these things until they are 2 cm big and to go back in 6 months..... he put a scope down my throat and said the vocal cords looked fine... but I can not accept that I just have to wait for it to grow until surgery... it's not hypo or hyper... I have been researching aromatherapy, healing gems, posiitive visualizations, and reiki for 2 weeks now... any other options? herbs? It's only been a short time but it still seems the same.... and I want to be well... Please and Thanks!

Hi Danijela,

if one of the hormones (T3 or T4) is slightly high it can b that you are pro-hyperthyroid as well, but I need to see the medical results before saying something for sure. Nodules are very commont and happen to very many people. I prepare excellent homeopathic remedies, that can be completely adjusted to the needs of your body, so you might be interested to try this way . I would be glad to help you (the rest is in e-mail).

Hi and thanks for your site. I am a health care practitioner and have my own issues now too! I've never been able to even get a diagnosis all these years (struggled with something they thought was Lupus) and now am seeing the correlation with thyroid (hyper some of the time/hypo some of the time.) I found an article yesterday also on line talking about people vacillating back and forth from hypo to hyper.. can that be so? No wonder I have symptoms from each list! The 'events' worsen as I get older (just turned 59) however, I believe the body is waiting for the right information and the right remedy at all times to find its cure, its homeostasis. It keeps me searching. It is totally possible to heal completely. I was delighted at your mention about calcium... as this one little mystery as to why my legs/ calves ache when I get into this 'state'... must have something to do with lack of use of calcium .. so thank you for that. one thing for people to know too, I think is important, is all the use of soy products is NOT a good thing. It is very disruptive for the thyroid.. and it is in so many things. (not to mention so much of it is GMO'd either on purpose or accidentally). Ok, I've blabbed enough.. when my funds come back to the top, I plan to consult with you. Sure will make me enjoy working with my own clients when I get my life, my body back. adieu, thanks.. t

I'm dianosed with hypothyroid and was prescribed levothyroxine, generic of synthroid. I felt horrible on that, so have resumed taking SeaVeg, a capsule consisting of many ocean plants including organic iodine - this is a nutritional supplement, not a drug. I feel much better but my endocrinologist doesn't yet know I'm taking it. I've told him that if I didn't feel immeasurably better by my next visit, I would stop levothyroxine and stay on Sea Veg long enough to see what happens. I'm a health-food freak since 1973 and have since been healthier at 78 than I was at 40. I think I cured myself of diabetes type II with diet and exercise, as that doctor says he does not believe I am diabetic. I feel great (almost) in spite of hypothyroid but have no idea how to fix that myself.
