The most well-known performance enhancing drugs for building muscle mass are the anabolic steroids, which is defined as a combination of hormone that increases a number of physiological functions, these includes bone growth, appetite and protein synthesis which gives a rapid development of muscle tissue. Besides making muscles bigger, anabolic steroids can help athletes recover from a hard workout more quickly by decreasing the muscle damage that occurs during the game. This enables athletes to workout harder and more constantly without overtraining. In addition, some athletes may like the aggressive feelings they get when they take these drugs. Anabolic steroids have a number of harmful side-effects, including a higher levels of hair growth, lowering of the voice and the shrinking of testicles in men.

Performance enhancing substances are more dangerous for teens because their bodies are still developing. Teens who try to use performance enhancing substances might see changes in their physical appearance, but they may also experience drastic side effects like, diarrhea, muscle cramps, nausea, stomach pain and mood swings. In excessive use of many performance enhancing substances can also lead to serious liver, kidney and heart problems

So what’s the risk of taking performance enhancing substances? There are lots. First, there are dangerous short and long-term side effects of them. Whether a performance enhancing drug is purchased over-the-counter or illegally is inappropriate, their toll on their health could be deadly. Other consequences of using performance enhancing substances include punishment from sports governing bodies, loss of past awards and titles, being banned from participating in your sport, and facing public shame and humiliation from being labeled a cheater just like Floyd Mayweater did, accusing Manny Pacquiao for using Steroids which was not true.

When considering whether or not to use a performance enhancing substance, consider your health too! It is always important to remember the value of healthy competition. Winning isn’t everything, especially when you are risking your health and reputation to get ahead of it.
