The feeling or symptoms of motion sickness are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sweating and a sick feeling in the gut. But first of all, let me talk about the causes of motion sickness and motion sickness treatments.

What causes Motion Sickness?

Causes of motion sickness can range from the swaying of the boat, humming motion from long travelling in a car or even turbulence in an airplance. These repeated motions can cause a disturbance in our inner ears and then cause the unpleasant symptoms to appear as we experience the sense of loss of equilibrium. One of the most common motion sickness symptoms is the nausea feeling in the gut. This is what you often see on the telly, where the protagonist spills his guts out over the railing of the ship while an old flame flirts with his fiancée. Motion sickness – acupressure is one of those quick methods I like to use to lessen my discomfort.

There are many types of treatments or cures for motion sickness and also for preventing motion sickness. These motion sickness treatments include motion sickness medicine, motion sickness patch, motion sickness patch, ginger for motion sickness, motion sickness bracelet, motion sickness watch, motion sickness shot and motion sickness wrist band. Motion Sickness Medicine

Motion Sickness Medicine is usually meant to be taken 1 to 2 hours before you take a flight or board the ship. The active ingredients in these motion sickness pills are meclizine (less-drowsy Dramamine, Bonine, Antivert), Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine regular), Marezine (cyclizine), Stugeron (cinnarizine). Some pharmacist also recommend antihistamines such as Benadryl. It is important that you consult your doctor before you attempt any of the above medication as it may cause drowsiness.

Motion Sickness Patch

Motion sickness patches can be prescribed by your doctor to reduce the effects of motion sickness. Motion sickness patches contain an anticholinergic agent (scopolamine) and it is to be apply to the skin behind your ear, and it will deliver a continuous dose of medication, for about three days. The drug will null the motion sickness sensation by preventing the disorientating signals from your balance center in your inner ear from reaching your brain. These motion sickness patches should be applied four hours prior to motion exposure. These patches are usually recommended for periods of motion exposure over six hours.

Motion Sickness - Accupressure

Accupressure and acupuncture have been known to be able to relieve motion sickness. The principle behind accupressure is to stimulate a key acupressure point on the inner side of the wrist area. This acupressure point, called Pericardium 6, is an important physiology point for nausea, vomiting, indigestion, weakness, dizziness, and worry. Motion Sickness – Accupressure can be done by yourself by adding pressure to this acupressure point when you feel nausea or you can use various tools such as a motion sickness wristband or bracelet or even motion sickness watch which stimulates the Pericardium 6 point with a small electric current.

Motion Sickness Wristband

Motion sickness wristbands are alternatives to motion sickness medications and patches. It does not use medication but using traditional sciences of acupressure, it has help millions of people overcome motion sickness. Using motion sickness - acupressure technology, the wristband helps to provide the correct amount of pressure to the Pericardium 6 point so that the transmission of nausea is blocked before it reaches the brain. You can eliminate the feelings of nausea before it start. Typically motion sickness wristband has a bead sewn into the wristband, which is positioned at a precise point on the wrist, then the band is tightened so that it applies a constant pressure to the P-6 accupressure point  located on the inner forearm just above the wrist.

Motion Sickness Bracelet

Motion sickness bracelet also works in the same principle as the wristband, by stimulating the key acupressure point on the inner side of the wrist area, Pericardium 6, with a button or magnet which provides a continuous pressure on this acupoint. If one feels the onset of nausea or dizziness, a simple press to the button will relieve the feelings of motion sickness.

Motion Sickness Watch

Motion sickness watch also stimulates the Pericardium point by electrically stimulating the median nerve P-6. This electrically activated watch-sized Relief Band device is worn on the inside of the wrist so that the small electrical current can be send directly to the P-6 acupoint.  The stimulation signals the brain to have the stomach resume normal rhythms so that the nausea feelings can be eliminated.

There are also many other homeopathic cures that you can find that can help you overcome motion sickness. However most of the homeopathic measures are really not practical for a plane ride or when you really need to move around a lot. The motion sickness patches, wristband, bracelets and watches are portable solutions that suits people who are constantly on the move..that is why we get motion sicknessJ. Excellent hub. I use both the wristbands and the electronic "Relief Band" watch device for which ever I need the strongest preventive measure against. I can usually get by with the wrist bands in the car, but for long car trips, especially vans or backseat riding and airplanes, I need the electronic one. They've both been life savers for me.
