Vancouver Dentists: Finding A Dentist in Vancouver

Updated on August 27, 2011

Dentists In Vancouver

There are a large number of dentists in Vancouver so finding one should not present to much of a problem. Finding a Vancouver dentist who meets your dental needs may be a little bit more difficult. Choosing a dentist is a personal experience, a dentist who is great for one person may make another uncomfortable. Unfortunately you can't exactly try out all of the dentists before you select one, so you are going to have to do some research in order to find the right one for you.

The first thing that you are going to want to do is make sure the dentist is qualified. You can probably assume he went to dental school and is licensed to practice, there isn't a huge problem with unlicensed dentists in Vancouver. You should however make sure that he has experience with the types of procedures you are going to need. Not all dentists perform all procedures, make sure the one you select has experience with the types of dental procedures that you normally require. It is also a good idea to find out how long the practice has been open.

A lot of dentists have started using amenities to make their patients more comfortable, this can be especially valuable for people who are nervous about seeing the dentist. These comforts can range from heating pads or music to nitrous oxide to help keep you relaxed. It is also becoming more and more common to use lasers instead of drills or scrapers to make dental treatments less uncomfortable. If you are one of the many people who gets nervous at the dentist these items can really go a long way to making your visit more pleasant.

Location is also going to be an important factor, Vancouver dentists are located all over the lower mainland, so it is usually a good idea to find one who is located close to where you live or work. You will also want to look at the hours that they are open, more and more dentists are staying open into the evening to make it easier for people to schedule appointments around their work schedules. It is also a good idea to find out if they are available after hours for emergencies.

Cost is also going to be a factor, no matter how good your dental insurance some of the cost is going to come out of your pocket. There can be a surprising variation in cost from one Vancouver dentist to another so this is something that you should look into. You will also want to make sure that your dentist accepts your insurance plan, but this normally isn't a problem, most dentists in Vancouver accept all of the major insurance plans.
