There are many different ways to stop smoking. Thousands of people find a quit smoking method that works for them every day.

Is there an easy way to stop smoking?

Any method you try will be difficult, if not impossible, if you do not have the desire to quit. Yes, you have to REALLY want to quit and be prepared work towards that goal for any quit smoking method to be successful long term.

There is no easy way to stop smoking, no magic wands or miracle cures. However, you CAN quit smoking and there is lots of help to do it.

1.    Cold Turkey

Of all the ways to stop smoking, this has to be the hardest.  Many smokers fail to prepare and just stop smoking and then wonder why they fail.  Stopping completely with no other help is possible; you need to plan first though.

2.    Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Many people use nicotine replacement therapy to successfully stop smoking cigarettes.  Nicotine is administered in small controlled doses via patches, gum, inhalators etc to relieve withdrawal symptoms and cravings

3. Cutting Down

Some smokers find that gradually cutting down each day until stop smoking cigarettes an easy way to stop smoking.  This method requires a lot of will power and self discipline to keep reducing cigarette smoking.

4.    Stop Smoking Support Programs

One of the best quit smoking methods is to attend a support program.  The quit rate is much higher when there is some form of counseling or support.  These programs use a variety of methods to help you quit smoking cigarettes, monitoring your progress and providing ongoing support.

5.    Self Help Books

The most successful and well known book is Allen Carr’s “Easy Way to Stop Smoking”.  It has been on the market since the early 90’s and has helped millions of people stop smoking cigarettes.  Allen Carr’s quit smoking method removes your psychological dependence on cigarettes.

6.    Varenicline (Chantix or Champix)

Varenicline is a prescription drug which helps reduce cravings and decreases the pleasurable effects of smoking.  Using this drug to stop smoking cigarettes is basically aversion therapy as it makes the act of smoking repulsive to you.

7.    Bupropion hydrochloride (Zyban)

Zyban is a prescription drug which should be used alongside other methods to stop smoking such as counseling or support program.  The drug helps to reduce withdrawal symptoms and stop the urge to smoke.

8.    Hypnosis

Seen by many as an easy way to stop smoking, hypnosis has a good success rate.  Hypnosis is a state of ultimate relaxation when you can tune in to your subconscious mind.  When in an hypnotic state your subconscious mind is “reprogrammed” so that you no longer need to smoke cigarettes.

9.    Alternative Therapies

Many smokers find that alternative methods to stop smoking work well for them.  Alternative quit smoking methods include acupuncture, electro stimulation and laser therapy.  There are many more methods you can explore.

You covered all the bases here - good stuff. You're right about the personal choice although I worry about the side effects of some of the drug alternatives.

Hi beccas90. Choosing to quit smoking and what method to use is personal choice. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to find one that works well for you. Ultimately though, like any other addiction, you do need to want to quit.

I've never tried the drugs. I did try patches and reacted badly to them. I also tried the gum and ended up smoking too lol. Hypnosis helped me a lot though.

On counseling I would add a good company of friends as well. I started smoking on a friend's advice and became an addict because of other school friends. Although my consumption varied all those years, many friends counseled me about quitting till now.

Moreover it also affects the reputation of the person in the society and also in the eyes of unknown people or people around you who saw you smoking.
