A Present For My Mother

Choosing a present for a family member can be difficult. It takes a wise person to out do the present from last year, and even it you are a bit more creative than the other family members, it takes a good amount to plan what is personal and will be appreciated.

For the ones who have given me life, meaning my Mom and Dad, pulling surprises can be difficult. Based on what I know about my parents, knowing that they have been given gifts every year and seeing that they have obtained just about everything they have ever wanted, and ever needed, being creative and intuitive is a task! I have spent much time with Mom and Dad over the past year by helping them clean house, going through their belongings with them for packing and moving. This has helped me get to know them better. My Dad has been easier to associate with, since we have the same sentimentalities. That is, we covet things that reflect our passions, such as history, family photographs, music and love for health and medical things. Finding that he already has numerous photo albums, numerous frames, and many books about his favorite subjects, I know not to consider gifts in that catagory. But then I have to see what his hobbies are, what he does the most these days. His newest hobby is cooking, so his gift will be for his culinary experience.

While finding the perfect gift for my father was easy, I still had to come up with something unique and creative for my mother. She is truly a beautiful individual to me, and her soul is serene and loving, and she is a very creative person. Recently, while going through her things, my mother found a few poems that she had written. How could she have hidden this from me? I knew that she had written before, but now it was time for her to receive so praise and feedback. This time, Mom really wanted to know what I thought of her poetry. And she wanted me to proof it too! All along this past year I had been sharing with her my experience with hub pages.com and how much success I had with it. I even suggested that she write for hub pages, too. Only time will tell if and when that occurs.

Now that I know my mother loves to write and she has been encouraged to write more. I was quite inspired by her eagerness to enjoy something to help her with her writing. The use of a journal is the best place for her to start. Now that she lives in a new environment, she will be able to start fresh. There is a lot of sunshine in her new home. A breath of fresh air will be welcome as she picks up her pen daily to express herself on paper.

Journal keeping can also help my mother with keeping track of her special memories, dates, and those special recipes she has created in the kitchen as well. An outlet on paper can also help her create ideas for the other hobby she has, which is painting pictures.

Could creative writing be genetically inherited? Or perhaps just the eagerness to express oneself? I think the greatest gift to receive on Christmas is the love of sharing something in common. So because of this, I will pay it forward. As Mom receives the tools needed to develop her creative expression, I will share with her some of my own.

Here is the inscription I wrote in the front of her journal that I gave her for the Christmas gift:

TO MOM, YOUR BOOK

 YOU CREATE
 LOVELY THOUGHTS.
 YOUR MIND'S EYE
 ALLOWS YOU TO SEE
 BEYOND WHAT IS SEEN
 IN THE NATURAL.
 USE THIS BOOK
 TO LET GO
 IN WORDS,
 LET THE THOUGHTS
 BECOME ALIVE.
 THE PAGES OF
 THIS BOOK WILL
 REFLECT THE
 BEAUTY OF YOUR SOUL.

 BE FREE............
 LOVE ALWAYS, TINA.
