A Unique Gift - Miniature Rose Bush
Give a Unique Gift for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day or Any Day
Are you looking for perfect gift for that special lady in your life, but you want to give something a little different? Instead of giving her cut flowers that will die in a few days, why not give her a more unique gift? Give her a miniature rose bush and she will have flowers that will last forever!
Don't Give Cut Flowers!
Instead of giving a vase of cut roses, give her a miniature rose bush! She will still have the beauty of roses and that special feeling of love, but will have them to look at forever! I told my husband years ago, don’t spend money on something that I will only be able to enjoy for a few days, get something I can plant and enjoy forever! Miniature roses are a great and original idea! You can buy a pretty pot and place them inside. They can remain in the pot until the weather allows you to plant them outside. They can be re-potted easily and will be beautiful all growing season. You can also keep them inside in a bright sunny window.
Below is a little information on miniature rose bushes and how to care for them. I'm sure she will appreciate the sentiment and the beauty a miniature rose bush will bring her for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and every day!
General Information on the Miniature Rose
Miniature roses are bred to remain small in size. They have smaller flowers than a regular type of rose and come in a variety of different colors. Despite their small size, they are actually very hardy and most varieties are long blooming. The term ”long blooming”, means that the rose bush will flower continuously throughout the growing season. The length of the growing season depends on your location or zone. Now she will think about you every time she looks out the window!
Types of Miniature Roses
Climbers - Tend to grow vertically and can be trained to grow against a support of some type, such as a trellis.
Trailers - Tend to grow in a cascading manor and are great to plant in baskets or along the edge of a wall.
Micro-mini’s – The smallest of the miniature roses. They grow between 6- 12 inches and the blooms are ¼ to 1 inch in size.
You basically care for miniature roses the same way you would regular size roses.
Planting: Dig your hole about 1 inch deeper and 6 inches wider than the pot the roses came in. Add some organic matter, such as peat moss to the bottom of the hole. Carefully remove the pot from the roses and loosen the roots as much as possible. Place the rose bush in the hole and pack dirt firmly around it, water well, as add a layer of mulch.
Watering: The amount of water is going to depend on the type of soil you have. Be sure to water deeply and keep the ground moist, but not soggy.
Fertilizer: Fertilizing is essential if you want your roses to continuously bloom. Use a “rose” fertilizer and feed after each “flush of bloom”. You want to stop feeding when the weather is dropping to below about 35 to 40 degrees. Mixing some Miracle Grow Rose fertilizer withsome water works well.
Pruning: Just as regular rose bushes, you want to prune the back in late winter or early spring. As the blooms fade, pinch them off, to encourage new growth.
Miniature roses are great for borders, edgers, or just some small place you need a little color.
I hope you agree that this is a more original than just cut flowers or candy. Women like it when you put some thought into their gift. Show her how much you care by getting her a more original gift of a miniature rose bush! You will be glad you did!
