How To Make A Diaper Cake Instructional Video
Adorable Diaper Cakes
I'm sure many of you have been to a Baby Shower where there was a cake made out of diapers? The first time I saw one, I was so impressed at how creative they are. They are so cute, your mom-to-be will have a hard time wanting to dismantle it after the shower is over.
When my daughter was expecting her first baby, she kept talking about having a diaper cake at her shower. I had never even heard of a diaper cake and wasn't sure what she was talking about. After searching locally for people who make diaper cakes, I realized it wasn't something that was going to be easy to find. I then turned to the internet and began searching for someone who made them. When I realized how expensive it was going to be, with shipping, I decided it would be much cheaper and easier to just make it myself. I also found that if I did make it myself, I would be able to personalize it however I wanted.
After searching the internet I found some ideas on how to put a diaper cake together. There are many different versions and I played around with some until I made up my own. The cake stays together the best the way I have demonstrated in the video below. You may find something in my demonstration that you would do differently, so don't be afraid to experiment with different things.
Make Your Diaper Cake
The Perfect Theme
I couldn't wait to get started. I went shopping at the Party Store and Hobby Lobby for items that I might use to create the perfect diaper cake. They both have a great selection of baby shower items that you can use to make your diaper cake. There are so many different themes you can go with. The selection of baby items is unlimited. You can do a gender specific cake or you can do a neutral one. There are items for just about any theme you can think of.
I was having so much fun deciding which way to go, that I was wishing I had more than one shower to do. We knew she was having a boy, so I settled on doing a blue "It's a Boy" theme.
I found the adorable stork pen that I used for the top, at The Party Store. The booties are for stuffing with party favors, they come in a box of about 8-10. You can use an actual pair of baby booties instead, they will be part of your gift and they look adorable.
I didn't add all the baby items to this diaper cake, as it was just showing how the basic cake itself is put together. You will want to add many other items such as pacifiers, socks, spoons, rolled up wash cloths, little toys, teethers and any other baby item that is small enough to stuff in there.
We had a shower for a co-worker at work in the break room and I made a really cute Jungle Themed Diaper Cake which had some baby items stuffed in it, that was my gift. Then everyone else just stuffed gift cards and rolled up money in it. She loved it, and it was really simple.
