Birthday Gifts for 3 Year Old Girls

Birthday Ideas for 3 year olds - Planning Ahead

My youngest daughter will celebrate her third birthday in about three weeks time and this year I plan to be super organised! I want to get her a great gift, bake the cake myself and take her to the Zoo!

Spring/Summmer birthdays are relatively easy to shop for as it has been a while since Christmas so the novelty of presents received back then have well worn off at this stage.

One tip that I recommend for children of this age is to collect some little items to add to the main present. Children of the Pre-school age have a short concentration span so no matter how brilliant their gift may be they will get tired of it and want to move on to something else. I suggest some small items such as some new colouring pencils and a colouring book, stickers, a little purse or some jewelery, I also recommend that every gift giving occasion is used as an opportunity to add a new book to your child's collection in order to encourage a love of reading in your child.

Some of my first thoughts about 'The Gift' are that 3 year olds are forever learning. Children love to mimic and learn from what they see adults doing. My children love to sit on my knee as we trawl through the internet for funny pictures or interesting songs and rhymes. Because of this I have had to change my opinion on children and technology. Instead i've had to find child friendly age appropriate ways to introduce my children to it. My nintendo Ds now belongs to my 4 year old. After a little research I have come across the V-tech mobigo touch learning system and the leapster 2 by leapfrog for the Pre-school child. Both of these products boast educational games that focus on pre-reading and number learning. There are many reviews of both of these products on Amazon giving both of them between 4 and 5 stars. Another gift that is wonderful for boys or girls at this time of year is a butterfly kit. This involves buying a kit and sending away for the catterpillar larvae so you may have to plan this one a little bit in advance of the birthday. However it does provide a wonderful opportunity for the child to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly. If you decide to buy this I recommend combining it with the wonderful book from Eric Carle "A Very Hungry Caterpillar"

More ideas

Childrens imagination really starts to develop around the age of three years so anything that will help them to expand on this will be helpful. I visited a friend recently a when it was time to leave I found my little girl under the kitchen table with her friend playing with a large wooden playhouse! They were so engrossed in their imaginary game that they didn't even hear us calling.

Along the same idea, some little girls love to try on high heels and jewelry. My oldest daughter never bothered with this but since my youngest daughter learned to walk, my high heels are always missing! I have already picked up a box of these dress up shoes listed opposite. I cant wait to see her face.

If you are buying a gift for a child that you dont know very well, it is a pretty safe bet that their parents will always thank you for buying them some pretty clothes. 3 year olds grow inches so quickly meaning that their wardrobes are always in need of replacing.

Happy gift shopping!
