CELEBRATE Every Day in December Little Known Reasons for a Celebration

Party time!!!

Source

To many around the world, when we think of December the holiday we think of most often is Christmas. And it is indeed spectacular and a most wondrous time to celebrate for so many reasons...the birth of Christ, a time of giving, moments with family and friends.

In addition to that most special day, we have a whole month of other reasons to celebrate...some are strictly silly and maybe even ridiculous but there are others that will probably cause you to pause for a bit and be thankful.

. You just may find one or two or more that will be added to your traditions for December.

Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let's not be afraid to receive each day's surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy It will open a new place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate more fully our shared humanity.

— Henri Nouwen

JSYK.....

These dates are being shared with you a bit before December so that you have time to make arrangements for any you wish to add to your already overflowing schedule of events.

*jsyk....not a typo....just so you know...for anyone who did not know...

December 6 Mitten Tree Day

December 6 Put on Your Own Shoes Day

Bathtub Party Day

Ok, this is day you can celebrate singly or with a friend or friends..It will be your call.

The most fascinating thing that I found out about this holiday is: tadaaa it is a copyrighted holiday.

I must have been living under a rock for many years because it was news to me that a holiday can be copyrighted. According to holidayinsight.com, it was created by wellcat.com. Who knew??

The first few days offer many choices

Some of these need to explanation really.

  • Maybe Fritters day.
  • ..for those who do not know a fritter is fried dough, often with meat, fruit, or veggies inside. So, enjoy a fritter, any kind of fritter, on this day.
  • Roof over your head day. .thankful for that one.. a home with four walls and a roof over my head....that is reason enough to celebrate all by itself.
  • National Repeal day ...now that is one that many will get behind with gusto...the repeal of Prohibition!!!

These first six days offer many possibilities...

It's all about the food ...

Cotton Candy, Brownies, Pasty....now they have my attention.

None of these really are healthy so if I participate in these celebrations I must do so in moderation.

Somehow a cup of moderation being served up with any of the above seems highly unlikely.but you can give it a shot.

There is no wrong way to celebrate them unless of course you let them slip by with no notice of them at all.

If you are really pressed for time (imagine that happening), you could have one day of celebration and completely OD on junk in one day.

Sorry to the pastry chefs who think their delicacies are not in that category. And of course you could change them up a bit and they would be healthier.

Brownies too are taking a hit by being labeled junk but there are ways around that. Use dark chocolate, applesauce instead of butter, natural sweetners and your brownie should redeem itself a bit.

At any rate, try not to miss these days to indulge.

Spun sugar....melts right on your tongue

Choose what works for you

Humbug Day just isn't me...

I am too much of a Pollyanna to be Scrooge at this time of the year...but if you must grumble and grouch, here is the day set aside for you.

Look at the Bright Side Day....

Now I am certain this day was invented for those of us who are eternally optimistic. I will probably put balloons on my fence and wrap ribbons around my cedar trees on this day...

Festivus

This was a new one for me....in a nutshell it is set aside for those who are OVER all of the commercialism associated with Christmas. Its origin is from an episode of Seinfeld ...known as the Strike. You may wish to review it for more detail.I may have to partake in this one a bit this year because I agree...there is too much about the STUFF and not enough about loving and giving of ourselves.

There's Even a Day for Mr. Scrooge...

December 19

Oatmeal Muffin Day

December 20

Go Caroling Day...if you didn't get to carol on the 8th...do it now!!!

December 21

Humbug Day

December 21

National Flashlight Day

December 21

Look at the Bright Side Day

December 22

National Date Nut Bread Day

December 24

Festivus

December 22, 1892

The date 12/22 is not shown but it is a day I celebrate each year.

In 1892 my Daddy was born on that date.

He died at the age of 93 ....he is missed every single day....So this year, maybe you can help me celebrate my Daddy's birthday..Jesse Douglas Traughber...

O, the always said it was pronounced "Jess" even though it had the 'e' on the end ....that was just my Daddy.

December 25 CHRISTMAS DAY

May your day be merry and filled with wonder, love, and joy as you pause on this day for a moment to reflect and embrace friends and family.

Where is it?

There are still more occasions to celebrate here..as you see...but where is:

National Catch Your Breath Day

National Soak Your Feet Day

Regifting Day (o, that's right...that comes at the next birthday or next Christmas)

Shoo Out the Overnight Guests Day??

Just wondering...

There are still some on the official list to celebrate...my favorite has got to be

Make Up Your Mind Day.....that one is a goodie. Of course, that is for everyone else...not me.

I do not have a problem making up my mind...once I make up my mind.

You Gotta' Love the Special Observance on he 31st

December 26 Boxing Day

December 27 Make Cut Out Snowflakes Day

December 27 National Fruitcake Day

December 28 Card Playing Day

December 29 Pepper Pot Day

December 30 National Bicarbonate of Soda Day

December 31 Make up Your Mind Day

Every month has these silly days

Someone or a group of someones had too much time on their hands. So, they have compiled month after month of silly holidays for us to celebrate....or not.

You are even invited to submit one of your own. Why not? Go ahead, dream up one, and begin circulating it. Who knows...it may become a hit.

Happy Celebrating Everything Day to you..

I love that, favored. You had a good excuse. there are those who keep them up all year (and I am in Florida). I guess it is a good thing in a way as they don't have to go to all of the fuss and bother each year---they are already up.

thanks for coming back.

Had to come back & tell you that my Christmas decorations came down last week :) Seems it was Christmas everyday after all. Thank you Lord for the beautiful snow that kept us from taking them down.

It is pretty amazing how many things to celebrate there are..I just think, sometimes, that some people have too much time on their hands that they can dream up all of these 'reasons'.

I never know there is so much to celebrate during the month of December. I guess I can just pick a day and throw my own little party for whatever I feel, even if it is a belated or early celebration. Just do it!

Interesting hub, Patrica. Tweet!

Thanks for sharing these fun and interesting things to be thankful for and to celebrate during the month of December.

I already marked Dec. 13th, National Ice Cream Day on my calendar!

Love the lead photo for this hub! It adds just the right amount of whimsy and peaked my curiosity!

Voted up across the board.

I can so identify with all the foodie days, Patricia. Without knowing those days were so special, I have been celebrating them for years - even on OTHER days. But that they had a holiday of their own? Who knew? Thanks for the fun info, m'dear.

What a great hub for this time of year (and any time!). I'm glad there's still a letter writing day - that skill is declining and I love writing letters. I also love blowing bubbles but I get to do that with my grandchildren so I have an excuse (no, I don't really need one!). Humbug day is interesting - if you don't want to moan all day you could have a large bag of 'humbugs' and eat your way through them. If you don't know those, they're fairly big brown and white striped, minty, boiled sugar sweets. My grandmother used to love them and hand them out regularly!

We have a few birthdays in December so of course plenty to celebrate there too.

All the best to you for the month of December! Ann

I remember, Faith, that you got to celebrate with your Momma before her death. And I thought how lovely that is...a precious and treasured memory you can carry in your heart this year and each year as Christmas approaches.

Love and hugs and as many blessings as you can hold and then some are on the way in the arms of the Angels. Have a lovely Thanksgiving if we do not visit here again before that special day ps

hey, bill

You know my mantra....every day is a GIFT..I cannot not, will not, miss one minute of this glorious ride ...there is too much that is fun and amazing about it...

Yes, a lot of Stuff is going on and we are carrying on...putting the proverbial one foot in front of the other and tackling that mountain.

thank you for stopping by and sharing such sweet thoughts. Every Angel and blessing we receive is another mantle against the STUFF that is trying to over take us. Hugs and blessings and a boatload of Angels on the way back to you.

Brilliant dear PS!!! Celebrating anything and everything each day! What a lovely thought and so clever. You are such a wonderful person and I am thankful to know you and call you friend. Today I am celebrating YOU ... it is celebrate PS day!!! : ) I will celebrate on the 22nd in remembrance of your dad. My mother was born on December 16th and died last year on December 20th. We were able to celebrate her 84th birthday with her.

It is a wonderful life and we must celebrate as often and each day about something, anything.

Up and more and sharing

Hugs and love to you and yours and Angels too on your way,

Faith Reaper

Considering what your life is like right now, for you to write a hub about celebrating life is really something. My respect for you just rose once again, and I didn't think that was possible.

Thank you for a beautiful and fun list. Man alive, PS, if people don't see a reason to celebrate then they really need to open their eyes. This life is a gift and I know you know that.

blessings my dear, a hug or two, and a host of angels heading your way
