We folks here in Brooklyn, New York love a great cake and like to eat and enjoy one as much as the next cake eater. For weddings, birthdays, graduations, baby showers, etc. we want the best custom designed cake. The best means a cake that not only looks beautiful but taste great as well. Fortunately, we have such a dedicated person who fills this need very well. (see the slide show).
Shannon Pridgen has been custom designing cakes for several years, including special requests. Her cake creations in the past included a portrait of Langston Hughes for the Museum of Natural History, a beaded bridal gown for Macy's Bridal Showcase, and a sculpture of a record player for the R & B singers Ashford and Simpson. She also did a freestanding elephant which stood on all four legs - and surprised everybody.
Ms. Pridgen never let go of her dream and followed her passion. After schooling, and working at home for some years, she finally opened her high-end custom design cake boutique here in Brooklyn. Appropriately, she named it Heavenly Crumbs.
Ms. Pridgen can design anything you want, just bring a picture. She describes herself as an artist and her artistic medium is sugar. Her cakes are more like art than food and as you look at her slide show just know that absolutely everything you see...is edible! (One of my favorite cakes is the castle cake in the photo below - the turrets are edible)
What I like most about her products is the quality. This is her guarantee - all her cakes are guaranteed to be rich, moist, and delicious. They are all prepared from scratch using only the finest ingredients. In fact her cup cakes sit in a refrigerated glass enclousure in her bakery - they are meant to be kept fresh until you buy one to eat.
Here are some of her suggested cake fillings: ganache, dark chocolate and white chocolate, mixed berry, buttercream, rum, Amaretto, hazelnut, coffee, praline, lemon, strawberry, espresso, lime, etc. She often invents her own fillings such as a darjeeling tea filling, and a lemon and thyme mousse filling.
You can order a yellow cake, or a suggested cake flavor such as chocolate, red velvet, spice, carrot, lemon, etc.
Suggested frostings are usually vanilla and chocolate. These two frostings tend to pair best because they complement any flavor combination.
Knowing that some of us may have special dietary needs she will sit down with her clients and discuss those needs. One thing you will notice when you eat a quality product is that there is no need to gorge; a little goes a long happy way to satisfy you.
Take a look at her slide show and see some of her creations.
