Do It Yourself Projects

Updated on January 10, 2017

Crafts Yay!

Doing crafts can be fun, exciting and for some therapudic but only when it works out in your favor. Crafts are so much fun from wreaths, snow globes, candles, jewelry and more the possibilites are endless. One of the greatest things about crafting is you can do it with all of your friends, make it a party or some sort of social gathering. It is a great way to get people together and hang out. You can even include wine in the mix. Crafting, whatever it is that you like to make, can be so exciting because it gives you the ability to have something unique, not found on the store shelves. Something that actually brings you great joy and every time someone compliments it you get to say you made it and that all in itself makes you feel great.

Smart Crafting

Have you ever gone to an artisan market and asked yourself why it is so much to buy their products? The reason the do it yourself crafts cost so much more is because more often than not the person making them has to buy the items at retail and recoup the cost. The trick is to buy second hand or super sales after the season is over and refurbish and collect all the items so you can sell at a lower rate than others. Its not just about making money it is about doing something that you enjoy and being smart about how and where you buy your products from. For example I made two wreaths this year, one for fall and one for Christmas. Each one cost about five dollars for me to create. How did I do that do you ask? I bought all of my supplies from our local thrift store. I picked only things that were new or looked new and in great condition. I fixed up the stick wreath I bought and the finished product looks like something from a store. It is simple yet elegant. Some wreaths have a lot of huge pieces or so much going on it makes it hard to enjoy. Mine do not have that but they do make you feel the season. If I were to try and sell any of my items I made I could do so for under $20 and still turn a profit because of my smart shopping. Rummage sales are also a really great place to find some good items or even just ideas.

Crafting Woes

DIY projects can be hard and daunting especially if they do not turn out the way that you would like them to. Take Pinterest for example, how many times have you tried a project from there that did not turn out? Too many I am sure because I know that I have. It can be so infuriorating when you spend all that time and it ends up looking like a blob of some sort. So when you do a project that turns out just like the picture if not better you feel like you just won a prize or something. I think what happens is that you see what they did and try to do it the same way instead of using your own creative mind to do it the way it makes sense to you. I recently made a couple of wine glass snow globe candle holders that i saw on pinterest but instead of copying what they did I thoiught about how I would like it to look and found materieals that worked better for me and made my own little masterpieces. It feels so darn good. I love to craft as do many others, there is a sense of accomplishment that goes along with it and I find it exciting to create with my hands. It is a really great way to spend a rainy or snowy day.

Show and Tell

I wanted to share some of the things that I have done in the past few months. Though time consuming I had a really great time creating all the different things for various events between birthdays, holidays and as gifts for others. I would like to see some of the work others have done. Please share your crafting stories with me I would love to hear about it.
