Part 1

EASTER is one of the most impressive, memorable, monumental moments in time when JESUS CHRIST arose from the dead after being in the grave for three (3) days! JESUS won the ultimate spiritual, physical and emotional battle against darkness! EASTER is the time when the Church at large celebrates our LORD & SAVIOR’S magnificent, remarkable Victory over sin, death and the grave! EASTER is truly RESURRECTION SUNDAY! JESUS AROSE with ALL POWER!

Matthew, Mark, Luke & John provide an exceptional history of the life of Jesus Christ! Collectively the Gospels give an amazing accurate detailed account of His miraculous birth, sinless life, crucifixion, death, burial and marvelous resurrection from the dead!

The glorious glad tidings of His miraculous supernatural birth changed the course of the entire world. Jesus came to fulfill His earthly mission to SAVE us from the power of sin reigning in our lives! Jesus teachings were opposed by the majority of religious leaders. He walked uprightly and lived among the people victoriously over sin. He wrought many miracles, taught the masses, fed the multitudes as well as spoke in Parables to teach others in order to bring about a clearer understanding of the Kingdom of God! Parables are natural illustrations used to explain spiritual principles! All along while He was doing the work of the Father the religious leaders plotted against Him and sought vehemently to discredit Him! They eventually went so far to stage a mock trial with false witnesses!

JESUS Warns His Disciples of His Death and Resurrection

Jesus was Divine! He was both God and man! JESUS knew that His time had come to complete His earthly mission and was fast approaching. Judas one of His disciples betrayed Him and went to the chief priests and asked them; “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand Him over.” Matthew 26. How ironic since Judas was the treasurer of the twelve disciples. Judas allowed himself to be used by the devil to betray Jesus for money. He was spiritually blinded, not really realizing with Jesus in his life he already had everything that he would ever need!

During the Passover meal known as “The Last Supper” while with His disciples Jesus again warned them of what was to come! They all ate the traditional Passover meal together. They also shared and broke unleavened bread and wine together! Jesus Himself was soon to become the final sacrificial Passover Lamb! It was customary at this time for them to eat from a common bowl in which they all dipped their hands.

“When evening came, JESUS was reclining at the table with the Twelve. And while they were eating, He said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray Me.” They were very sad and began to say to Him one after the other. “Surely not I, Lord?”

“Jesus replied, ‘The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with Me will betray Me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him. But woe to the man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for Him if he had not been born.” Then Judas, the one who would betray Him, said “surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “Yes it is you.” Matthew 26.

Jesus proceeded to serve them unleavened bread and wine. He took the bread and broke it and gave it to them saying “Take and eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup gave thanks and offered it to them saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is My blood of the new covenant. Which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink anew with you in My Father’s Kingdom.” When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” Matthew 26.

Today in this 21st century over 2,000 years later, we continue to take Communion in remembrance of the “Last Supper” that took place in the Upper Room! The Passover commemorates when Israel was delivered from slavery out of Egypt! We commune together for worship as believers to joyfully reflect on the Lord’s Promise to return again! The unleavened bread represents His Body and the wine /juice His Blood! We show our THANKFULNESS for ALL the LORD JESUS CHRIST did for us and continues to do! Communion is in remembrance and out of respect for the Body and Blood shed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! He was the Holy Sacrificial Lamb that atoned for the sins of the world! Communion is also called the Eucharist meaning Thanksgiving!

Jesus Betrayed With A Kiss In The Garden of Gethsemane

The garden of Gethsemane is where Jesus went to pray right before His betrayal! Here He agonized over what was to come! He asked His disciples to stay awake and pray with Him. He knew that his earthly body would have to endure excruciating pain and extreme emotional turmoil! He knew that He was destined to soon take upon Himself the sins of the world! His soul was sorrowful! Therefore He prayed so passionately that he profusely sweated blood. He warned His disciples to “Watch and Pray so they would not enter into temptation!” But they fell asleep anyway!

“While He was still speaking Judas, one of the Twelve arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The One I kiss is the Man; arrest Him. Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. Jesus replied, “Friend do what you came for.”

"Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested Him. *With that one of Jesus’ companions reached for a sword, drew it and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. “ Matthew 26

*It was actually his disciple Peter who cut off Malchus’ ear. Still at this time Jesus was thinking of others rather than Himself. Jesus immediately healed Malchus by placing his ear back into place. Jesus told Peter that He was there to complete the will of the Father and fulfill the prophecy!

“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you not think I cannot call My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” At that time Jesus said to the crowd, “AM I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture Me? But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then ALL the disciples deserted Him and fled.” Matthew 26.

We have so much to be Thankful for and its ALL because of JESUS CHRIST!

Paul said, "If Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins." The resurrection is central to our Christianity. He was raised from the dead and we are baptised into Christ, raised in the newness of life. Easter should be the holiest day of the year for us. It should mark the new year for Christians as it did for the Jews in ancient times. Yet today, Christmas and presents are more important. So many Christians mention an Easter bunny and not why this point of the year should be most holy to us all. I get so agitated at folks who just don't care and miss the glorious blessings of living in the power of the resurrection.

Thanks for this hub topic that brings the truth home for many of us celebrating this Easter. I think that sometimes we get caught up in pushing the bunny and eggs and forget to mention what it is truly about. Wonderful scripture references and points of truth. Love the photos that you added to the article, especially those of cross. Voted up, up!

Nobody, Thank you for being my first courageous and candid visitor! Your comments are always welcomed and appreciated and give us much to ponder! I believe that Christmas is a marvelous time! I believe that JESUS was the greatest “GIFT” ever given! HIS miraculous birth as the “Only Begotten Son of GOD” was magnificent and world changing! I see Christmas as a time of giving rather than receiving… I do think that it is extremely important that we as believers remain mindful not to get caught up in what the world’s idea of Celebrating both of these marvelous Christian monumental "Spiritual Events" really mean! On both of these godly occasions there is a great opportunity to spread the Word, “The Gospel of Jesus Christ!”

“Easter = Resurrection Day” is one if not the most important days of the year! Easter is when millions of Christians all over the world should recognize, Honor and Celebrate Jesus Christ and HIS Faithfulness to the LORD, HIS sinless life, crucifixion, death and Resurrection of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ! He completed His earthly mission to demonstrate “The POWER of TRUTH!” THANK GOD for JESUS CHRIST & HIS HOLY SPIRIT!

Bob, Thank You as always for stopping by to share! In HIS Love, Grace, Joy, Mercy & May the Peace & Blessings of our Lord be upon You! GOD BLESS YOU!

DeBorrah, thanks once again for a scriptural based passage that is a reminder of what the life of Jesus and the meaning of Easter even as we went through the past Easter. Yes, we get busy celebrating everything and even forget to talk to our children living in a very diluted culture about the significance of Easter. I look forward to reading part two. Thanks for sharing.

Your Hub is fantastic! You are the greatest teacher I know. Part of the book I am working deals, surprisingly to me, with disputes over what Easter means, when it should be held, and even what the word itself means. Stay tuned! :-)
