Easy Home Made Apple Cider

Easy HomeMade Apple Cider

I love apple cider during the holidays and apples are on sale right now and in abundance. You will be shocked how easy homemade apple cider can be and how much better it is then what you purchase in the store.

It takes less then 15 minutes of preparation to have homemade apple cider for you and your family.

As always I don’t drink so my recipe is alcohol free. It is my understanding some people place alcohol in this drink. I have never really required it.

Ingredients

15 large apples (You can very the brand to change your ciders)

1 cup of sugar

1 ¼ tablespoons of cinnamon

½ tablespoon of allspice

Cinnamon sticks.

Directions

Quarter the apples and remove the cores. Place the quarter apples in a 1 quart stock pot. Add the sugar, cinnamon and allspice in the pot and fill with water. Bring to a boil like you would with potatoes and then turn it down to a simmer. Let simmer for at least 1 hour.

Allow to cool. Strain cooled fluid removing all solids into an air tight sterile container.

Serve warm with a cinnamon stick.

This makes an excellent before bed drink.

Refrigerate leftovers and re warm to serve at later date. I only keep mine for about a week in the refrigerator. But it is a very popular drink in our house. Sometimes depending on which type of apples I use I add a bit extra sugar and lemon. But that is only what I do for my family. I also have been known to put a little ginger in when cooking my apples cider. You can really get creative with apple cider and that is what makes it so interesting for the holidays for everyone in your family. If you keep changing the recipe and the apples they never seem to get bored of it. And it is a small thing to entertain them this way. I usually have polls on batches of apple cider during the holidays in which everyone who has a glass gets to participate. Then I check the data and I refine which apple ciders I make for my family and specifically curtail the recipe to their preferences. The results of the polls are often amazing to me as the cook. But I try to make my family really happy during the holidays as we all do I am certain.

In Conclusion

This is a really simple treat to make for your family for the holidays to make them happy and content.

Update:

I made two seperate batches of this and it is absolutely divine.

The second batch I added a bit more ginger and a pinch of vanilla. But it both recipes were wonderful.

Update in 2015

Thanks to my readers this remains one of my most popular articles to date. While I will never abandon my social activism or the artistic portion of writing my readers respond best to recipes so I am adding capsules to show you just how easy it is to make this recipe yourself.

if you prefer Ginger add extra Ginger or if you prefer cinnamon add extra cinnamon. This recipe is really hard to mess up. Trust me! I make every mistake there is when it comes to cooking. This one is fool proof. That is why it is "easy"!

Enjoy!

I have never heard the term chores, in relation to preparing apples. Is this the seeds, and core?

Lol, thank you Barbara Hill it is always a chore removing those cores. Must have been a Freudian slip no doubt. I apologize it has taken so long to get back to you. I have down with a migraine for almost three weeks.
