Graduation is special

Graduation, whether it is from 6th Grade, High School, College or beyond, is such an achievement for the graduate. What a great way to celebrate that special, one and only Kindergarden Graduation too.

For each and every person that earns a degree, the occasion of their graduation is a very special day. Even if you can't be there, sending a card shows that you recognize the achievement.

Greeting cards for graduation range from serious to comical but I think the most special way to celebrate a Graduation with a card is to make a handmade Graduation card.

Handmade and Homemade

When you give a card that you created there is a message sent to the recipient which is that you took the time and care to imagine and create the card specifically for that person. Everyone that I give makes me and the person I give it too feel very good.

3 Birds on Parade Cricut cartridge

This is the first card I created using the 3 Birds on Parade Cricut cartridge made for use with my Cricut die-cutting machine. This cartridge features the same little bird in a variety of poses celebrating all the special occasions and holidays in our lives.

The graduation-themed shape to cut out features this cute little bird. As you can see from my Graduation card, the bird and accompanying phrase are both multi-layered. What I love is that I was able to create the specific colors of a school. The phrases included are encouraging and up-lifting. A totally fun card to make.

How to Make it

Cut 1 piece of heavy weight cardstock to measure 5 1/4" x 8" then fold for a base card measuring 5 1/4" wide x 4" tall.

Cut 1 piece of patterned light weight cardstock to measure 5" x 3 3/4". This will be the background patterned piece for your card.

Cut 1 <Grad-s>, page 47, measuring 3" using the Shift, Graduation Bird keys. This will cut out the face of the bird. I used a light blue cardstock.

Cut 1 <Grad>, page 47, measuring 3" using the Shadow, Graduation Bird keys. This will cut out the bottom layer of the bird. I used a yellow cardstock.

Cut 1 <Grad>, page 47, measuring 3" using the Graduation Bird key. This will cut out the bird's robe, background of the face, feet, and the cap. I used a black cardstock.

Cut 1 <Grad-s>, page 47, measuring 3" using the Layer 1, Shift, and Graduation Bird keys. This will cut out the bird's beak and feet. I used a tan cardstock.

Cut 1 <Grad>, page 47, measuring 3" using the Layer 1, Graduation Bird keys. This will cut out the tassel for the cap. I used a red cardstock.

Adhere the Black layer to the Shadow layer of the bird.

Adhere the Light Blue face layer. By doing this the black of the cap will show up more.

Adhere the bird's beak and feet. I dotted the beak and feet with red dots.

Adhere the Red tassel in place.

Adhere the finished Graduation Bird to the left side of your base card.

Cut 1 <Grad>, page 47, measuring 3/4" using the Phrase, Graduation Bird keys. This will cut out the bottom layer of the Congratulations phrase. I used a red cardstock.

Cut 1 <Grad-s>, page 47, measuring 3/4" using the Phrase, Shift, and Graduation Bird keys. This will cut out the top layer of the Congratulations phrase. I used a yellow cardstock.

Adhere the top layer to the bottom layer of the Congratulations phrase.

Adhere the finished Congratulations layers to the top right of the base card.

Cut 1 <Footbl-s>, page 51, measuring 2" using the Phrase, Shift, and Football Bird keys. This will cut out the top layer of the "Way to Go" phrase. Cut 1 using a red cardstock then cut another using a yellow cardstock.

Cut 1 <Football>, page 51, measuring 2" using the Phrase and Football Bird keys. This will cut out the bottom layer of the "Way to Go" phrase. I used black cardstock.

Adhere the yellow layer to the black bottom layer.

Adhere the finished "Way to Go" layers to the bottom right of the base card.

Now, offsetting it a bit, adhere the red cardstock layer.

If you wish to add the stars:

Cut 1 <Wizard-s>, page 66, measuring 1/2" to 3/4". This will cut out 3 stars. Then cut out another set 1/4" bigger.

Adhere the stars around the "Way to Go" phrase.

Done!
