Easy to Make Mother's Day Card with your Cricut Machine
This homemade Mother's Day card was so much fun; the cute little nesting doll is so cheerful and can be customized to resemble the mother who is being celebrated. The hair and skin color can be changed easily as can the color of the nesting doll's dress.
That is what is so much fun when creating a homemade card; it can be customized to look exactly how you want it, not how the greeting card manufacturer thinks it should look like. Also, the verse inside can be in your own words, not a canned greeting.
Using my Cricut personal cutting machine has allowed me to create many special cards to give to special people. Cricut has created so many different cartridges to choose from; whether it is a holiday, an occasion, a season, a place...the possibilities are endless. Some of the cartridges have booklets with tons of different cutouts to choose from; others, called Cricut Lite, has just a brochure with specific cutouts created from the cartridge's theme.
Cricut cartridge: Simply Charmed
Cricut machine blade depth: #3
Cricut machine speed: Medium
Cricut machine pressure: Max
Corner Punch tool (if desired but not necessary)
Strawflower accent (available at any craft store in the scrapbooking section)
Step by Step
Cutting Cardstock to be folded:
For a card measuring 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 with a top fold you would cut the cardstock to be 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" then fold the cardstock along the long edge.
(For a side fold card, cut the cardstock to be 11" x 4 1/4" and fold along the short edge)
For either version, using the folding tool that comes with the Cricut Essentials Kit makes the job easier and the fold crisp and clean.
I cut my cardstock background to be 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". I then took a corner punch and punched each of the four corners.
Adhere to base card.
Cut one <NstDoll1>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the Word and base keyboard key. This will cut out the top layer of the Happy Mother's Day sentiment. I used a Lite Pink heavyweight cardstock.
Cut one <NstDoll2>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the Word, Shift, and base keyboard key. This will cut out the bottom layer of the Happy Mother's Day sentiment. I used a patterned piece of cardstock.
Adhere the top layer to the bottom layer of the sentiment.
Adhere the finished layers to the right bottom of the card.
Cut one <NstDoll1>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the Shadow and base keyboard key. This will cut out the bottom layer of the Nesting Doll. I chose a cherry toned piece of cardstock.
Cut one <NstDoll1>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the base keyboard key only. This will cut out the middle layer of the entire Nesting Doll's body showing the hood worn by the doll. It will also cut out the flower center (not shown). I chose a Pink cardstock.
Cut one <NstDoll1>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the Layer 1 and base keyboard key. This will cut out the Hair and face background. Hair color can be picked for this cut.
Cut one <NstDoll1>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the Layer 2 and base keyboard key. This will cut out the doll's face and an accent piece. I chose a cream colored cardstock. You will chose the face color for this cut.
Cut one <NstDoll1>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the Layer 3 and base keyboard key. This will cut out the doll's dress. I chose a printed maroon cardstock.
Cut one <NstDoll1>, page 40, size 2 1/2" using the Layer 4 and base keyboard key. This will cut out the flower for the doll's dress along with her cheeks. I chose a cherry toned cardstock.
Adhere the Pink middle layer to the bottom shadow layer of the Nesting Doll.
Adhere the face background (show's through the eyes & mouth) in the center as shown.
Adhere the face front on top. The eyes and mouth should be showing thru; I had to use the pointy pick tool from the Essentials kit to open up the cutouts a bit.
Adhere the hair to the top of the head.
Adhere the dress to the bottom of the doll
Adhere the cheeks and flower to the doll.
Adhere the flower center and accent piece to the doll.
Adhering the Doll:
Adhere the finished doll to the left bottom side of the card.
Adhere the straw accent flower in between the doll's head and the sentiment.
