Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day is special day where you spend extra care to your loved one. Of course, this should NOT be the only day to show your love to someone you care about. However, a little extra love does not hurt =).

A brief introduction into the history of Valentine's Day

According to Wikipedia, the start of Valentine's Day was "a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. The most popular martyrology associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire; during his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote "from your Valentine" as a farewell to her."

Today, Saint Valentine's is celebrated on July 6th and July 30th by the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Anglican Church recognizes it as a feast day, which is pretty interesting (no wonder people got plump those days). However, it was not until the 15th century that a man by the name of Geoffrey Chaucer, declared it day of courtly love. Roses, chocolates, and cards (Valentines) were sent to loved ones. Nowadays, love cards are mass produced as companies are finding ways to cash in on this once sacred holiday. Now, how does this all tie into these cocktails?! Well, sweet, savory, and a homemade dessert just screams love, doesn't it? Check these out!

1.)Raspberry Chocolate Martini

2 oz Raspberry Vodka
1 1/2oz Creme de Cacao
Raspberries

Sweet and chocolate goodness all in one go. You cannot go wrong with this baby!

2.) Love Potion

1 1/2 oz Vodka
3/4 oz Chambord Liqueur
3/4 oz Cranberry Juice

Nothing says love like a premium raspberry liqueur with a tart yet sweet splash of cranberry juice and the strength of a good pour of vodka!

3.) Sex on Beach 2

1 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Chambord
1/2 oz Melon Liqueur
1 oz Pineapple
1/4 oz Cranberry Juice

Sex on the beach part 2? Need I say more?

4.)Black Russian

1 1/2 oz Vodka
3/4 oz Kahlua or Tia Maria (Coffee Liqueur)

For a bit of added flavor, you can always add in milk or cream (maybe even white creme de cacao!) This definitely the wake up call you need.

5.) Pink Fetish

1 oz Vodka
1 oz Peach Schnapps
2 oz Cranberry Juice
2 oz Orange Juice
Lime Wedge

This is definitely a bit of a mix on the sex on the beach, but a bit sweeter. Your lady will definitely love this!
