FLASH - It's Christmas!

Source

Sometimes the best Christmas presents are un-asked-for and come in the most unexpected places. These generous people must have thought they were doing something nice for their communities, but these random acts of holiday spirit have made their way all around the globe.

'Tis The Season For Random Acts

All these beautiful performances grew out of a human desire to share joy with strangers at the season of the year when we are encouraged to think of someone other than ourselves. You might not be able to stand up and sing a high soprano solo in the middle of a crowded mall. You may not be able to blow a bagpipe, pull a bow with any degree of success across the strings of a violin or cello, or command the talents of an ensemble of trumpeters, but you can do something. We can all do something.

There are many people in our communities who are not going to get a break from their responsibilities during these weeks of celebration. Firefighters, police, emergency room workers, our armed forces. Many of our most-essential services are reinforced by volunteers who spend their holidays like the rest of us: with their families and friends. Who fills in for them? No one. The professionals in those organizations double their efforts during the holidays to take up the slack.

Can you bake a tray of cookies? Take them to your local fire station this week.

Can you sit with a neighbor's ill mother or child while they finish their holiday shopping?

Can you buy a small Christmas Tree? Take it to you neighborhood police station.

Can you wrap a few small gifts of nothing more than paperback books or candy? Take them to the nearest military unit in your hometown.

You don't have to look very far at this time of year to find a need that is not being met or someone who is organizing an effort to help others. Give yourself a special gift this Christmas. Do something for someone else. It'll make this year your best Christmas ever.

Wonderful surprise title. Amazing how live music enraptures people. Delightful, heart warming read for a cold morning. Especially liked the Space and Air video. Merry Christmas

tirelesstraveler: Are you new to my hubs? Is so, welcome. I felt exactly the same this morning: needing a warm feeling on a cold morning. Wait a minute! You're in CA. How cold can you be? But then, I'm in Atlanta. In a few minutes we're going to get blasted by someone in North Dakota! Anyway, Merry! Merry! and glad you enjoyed this one.

Been following you for some time. Just don't get by too often.

This might be California, but it is 32 degrees outside here. We have had a couple of weeks of freezing nights. We got to 57 yesterday afternoon and thought it was a heat wave.

Just wonderful and just what I needed, as I sit here crying tears of joy and admiration and appreciation. I have loved all flash events and flash mobs ever since I became familiar with them, but the Christmas ones are the most moving. Thank you for gathering all those wonderful; performances together in one place for us.

And your message is very important. No matter our situation, there is always something we can do for others, especially those who lives are focused on serving others. Wonderful Hub. Sharing. Theresa

Sorry I didn't recognize your handle! It's varied from 24 to 59 here in the last week! Usually we walk around in our shirtsleeves until February. After 2 winters in Kansas recently, I love it.

Thanks T! So glad to see you back on HP now that the semester is over. It was fun to sort through these, but hard to widdle them down to just a few!

Thanks much for a delightful hub for the season with encouragement to reach out to others! :) I love the Air and Space Museum, Washington 2013 flash video (almost started clapping with the crowd!) and am looking forward to seeing the others you've highlighted here later tonight. One of the best things about the flash mob vids is seeing the faces in the crowds, but to be there for one--wow! :)

RTalloni: Have you ever been there for one? I haven't, but what an experience it would be! Hope you enjoy the others. It does take some time to get through them. It was so much fun to research them all (that I could find!) Merry!

Jamie: And to you as well. Glad you enjoyed this little bit of Merry!

I really like how you are using the word "Merry" as a noun, instead of an adjective. Very cool and very clever, and this is how language changes and grows! :)

What wonderful joy going on all around the world, such an amazing thing to see and hear about. Thank you for sharing!

Up and more and sharing ... and we all can share a bit of joy no matter where we are!

God bless,

phdast7: Oh, I don't know about that. You know how I hate to see myriad used as a noun!

This one had your name written all over it Faith! Glad you found it.

No, unfortunately, but one day perhaps we should plan a trip… :)

Looks like we'll get to these one at a time, but it will be fun!

What a great collection of flash mobs for the holidays! I love how they do this--what behind-the-scenes organization and commitment this must take!

Voted up, across and shared everywhere!

DzyMsLissy: Love your handle! Must read your hubs.

I can't begin to think how you go about planning one of these. But it sure looks like it is worth the effort! Merry!

I so enjoyed your post with all the wonderful flash mob music. I enjoyed the Ode to Joy started by the little girl most. What a wonderful way to say Merry Christmas to readers. Hope yours is a blessed and joyous event!

teaches12345: And for you as well. Looking through so many of these to choose a few for this hub, I liked the ones that started with one person, or just a few, and grew from there. There's something about that message that touches me. Merry!

Because this might be my last chance to wish my HP family a Merry Christmas, I'll risk repeating myself.

Merry Christmas!

Back again--the Christmas flash mobs never get old. They have to be the greatest modern day tradition ever!

No, I've never been privileged to be present for one, but, child, I'm keepin' both eyes open when I'm out and about for if one happens I plan to not miss it! :)

Just as wonderful, perhaps even better that last year. I think our heart's affection grows as we read words again and again and listen to beautiful music once more. Many Blessings!

Apologies. SONY in its infinite wisdom has decided broadcast of this video infringes on their copyright. (Like they don't have enough problems to keep them busy right now!) So here's the UTUBE link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GSTH3G1YIs

Enjoy!

I'm disappointed we lost Coverton's cover of "Hallelujah" that they gave Cohen credit for. It's in the pubic domain
