My Favorite Christmas Music Albums
Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year and almost everyone, whether religious or not, holds a special sentiment with their loved ones on this occasion. It is that time of the year where we surround ourselves with happy and joyful music to lighten up our day as they get shorter and colder.
Along with decorations and snow, music plays a key role in setting the Christmas environment. Who hasn’t passed a Christmas without listening to classics like Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' or John Lennon's 'Happy Christmas'?
Having listened to a myriad of songs and albums, I have hand-picked a selected few that I believe to be the best Christmas albums that have recently come out. These rank as the best selling Christmas albums and are truly inspiring.
Title: My Christmas
Singer: Andrea Bocelli
Release Date: November 3, 2009
Andrea Bocelli's first Christmas album was an immediate success and is still leading the charts of holiday albums. The Italian tenor's renderings of some of the traditional songs are excellent and his duets are simply beautiful. His ability to span an impressive vocal range and to blend his voice with just about anyone makes it a stunning Christmas album and an immediate classic.
In his rendition of 'White Christmas/Bianco Natale', my personal favorite, Andrea Bocelli brings out a graceful and tenderly voice as if it were coming straight from his soul. Other classics such as 'Angels We Have Heard on High' and 'Adeste Fidelis' are also gorgeous as his opera voice lends itself to them. Bocelli has been gifted with a heavenly voice and he brings the songs to an entirely new dimension.
Singer: Michael Bublé
Release Date: October 24, 2011
The Grammy Award Winning Canadian singer comes out with an amazing voice in his album which includes most traditional songs. The album is beautifully recorded and immaculately sung. The arrangements are gracious and feature a full orchestra with some of the top musicians, making this a masterpiece of Christmas music.
Michael Bublé interprets the classics in his own unique way. His version of 'Christmas' has a clear brass and drums while his renditions of 'Jingle Bells' and 'Holly Jolly Christmas' have been spiced up, not to mention his graceful duet with Shania Twain in 'White Christmas'. The album is truly enchanting and is a must addition to your Christmas collection.
Title: Merry Christmas, Baby
Singer: Rod Stewart
Release Date: October 30, 2012
Would you be surprised if I told you that Rod's voice lends itself amazingly well to Christmas songs? I probably would myself, but after having listened to his album I found his voice to be very warm apart from being throaty. The album displays a varied mix of songs and duets with notable singers that add an extra blend to the flavor.
Rod Stewart's version of 'Have Yourself A Merry Christmas' is very enjoyable and heartwarming, a perfect combination for the coming cold and, hopefully, snowy winter. Other fine tunes which I particularly liked are 'Blue Christmas' and 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' while his own 'Merry Christmas, Baby' lets out a soft and heartily touch to his singing. Though his voice may not match the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Bing Crosby or Frank Sinatra, his original style adds a new twist to the classic Christmas songs.
Title: Merry Christmas II You
Singer: Mariah Carey
Release Date: November 2, 2011
Mariah Carey's unique voice catapults you into a heavenly state of mind. After her first successful Christmas album dating back to 1994, Mariah came out with a new release in 2011 full of new surprises. Her renditions are warm and rich of altos which allow her to express these classics sublimely.
Mariah's first single, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' stands out as her best Christmas track due to her amazing voice though other tracks such as 'Christmas' and 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town' are equally as phenomenal bringing out the uplifting and cheerful side of Christmas. Mariah Carey can sing like no other and this album proves what an incredible gospel singer she is.
