Great Valentine's Day Party Ideas for Kids - Including How to Create a Fun Table-Scape!
I love Valentine's Day! Yes, it is another reason for me to plan and throw a party (which I love to do!)…however, it is also the perfect day to celebrate the people that I love. In my opinion, life is all about family, friends and making memories. Why not throw a Valentine's Day party for the special people in your life?! I have several nieces and nephews…so I decided to invite them over to celebrate Valentine's Day. They were thrilled (and very excited!). I love making memories with my family. I truly hope that one day, they look back and think fondly of all the wonderful things we did together.
Let the Planning Begin - The Basics
If I've said it once…I've said it a million times! I love the local dollar store and the internet! Both are WONDERFUL places to purchase inexpensive party supplies. Obviously, my color scheme for this party was red, white and pink. I purchased a red plastic table cover (kids get messy…so I find plastic is best), red plates, plastic heart drinking cups (six for one dollar at the dollar store!), and of course, napkins decorated with hearts. I also found wonderful Valentine straws at the dollar store (they were a BIG hit…the kids wanted to take them home!).
Great Decorations at Amazon!
To decorate the table, I purchased glitter hearts of all sizes…which I found on the internet. My centerpiece was a red vase full of fresh, gorgeous flowers (I also LOVE to arrange fresh flowers!). All of which I purchased at my local grocery store (MUCH cheaper than the florist any day!). One of my favorite finds was a glitter Valentine sign that I found at the local craft store (it was very inexpensive…only $4 and I can use it every year!). The sign really tied everything together and looked wonderful! I also purchased small plastic hearts (that open up)…but I will tell you more about those in a bit. Finally, if you have read any of my other party Hubs...then you know that I love balloons! I really think that balloons make a party fun and festive…not to mention they are also inexpensive! Once again, the dollar store came through for me. They had hundreds of mylar Valentine balloons to choose from and of course, they were only ONE DOLLAR! Compared to the local party store…one dollar is an absolute steal as they usually sell for $3.50 each! My nephew, Anthony, LOVED the balloons (he is only one) and played with them for the majority of the afternoon.
Food and Fun!
As for lunch…I served heart shaped peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches. I simply cut the bread into heart shapes using a cookie cutter. Most kids I know love peanut butter and jam sandwiches…and the heart shaped bread made them extra special. Potato salad, assorted chips, and fresh strawberries were also served. As for desserts…well, there were many! The valentine cupcakes and pink chocolate covered strawberries were a huge hit. Not only did the kids enjoy them…the adults did as well! Finally, as an EXTRA special treat…we made homemade strawberry milkshakes (are you getting the Valentine theme here…I tried to make everything pink and red!). The milkshakes were very easy to make. I simply blended strawberry ice cream, milk, and a few fresh strawberries in a blender. I topped the milkshakes off with whipped cream and sprinkles. Perfect!
Use heart cookie cutters to make heart shaped sandwiches or cookies!
I'm Going Heart Hunting!
Now back to the small, plastic red hearts that I mentioned earlier. Before the children arrived, I filled each heart with different Valentine candies and then hid them throughout the living room. I gave each child a red, plastic pail (I found the pails at the dollar store, of course!), set a time limit, and let them loose! The kids had a wonderful time running around searching for hearts. The child that found the most hearts at the end of the game won a special prize. The rest of the children got to keep the hearts…and of course, the candy inside (that's the BEST part!).
These tiny little Valentine Ducks are great to put on top of cupcakes!
Parties are a lot of fun…especially if you enjoy exploring your creative side to see what kind of decorating and food ideas YOU can come up with! As I have always said…parties DO NOT need to cost you an arm and a leg. Discount internet party stores and of course, Dollar stores are great places to find fun and festive decorations. Why not show the people in your life how much you love them and start planning a Valentine's Day party today! Have fun.
