Halloween Let's Celebrate In Style!

Halloween is celebrated around the World, but do we take time out to plan it? No not always. Unlike other celebration days most of us just buy a pumpkin clean out the inside and stick a candle in it. Bit pathetic don't you think? But some of us actually make the effort to wear a scary costume, or even get invited to a Halloween party if we are lucky. This year why not make it an extra special celebration? Halloween can be fun if you know how to plan it ahead.

So what else is there you can do to make Halloween seem like a proper holiday? The idea is to extend the celebration over a few days instead of just one evening. To start the great day or days of with a bang, lets take a look at a few ideas.

Happy Halloween Cards

Halloween Cards and Costumes.

Everybody loves to receive a Birthday card or Christmas card, but what about Halloween? For kids this will be so much fun. Get them to make their own with lots of glitter, scary faces and if they really want to make someone jump then they can add plastic spiders, fly's and just about any other creepy crawly they want to. Just don't stick the excess spiders in your mom and dads bed! After the initial scream they won't be very happy! How do I know? Have a guess!

We always made our own when we were kids, and one day we took the plastic fly's and placed them in the sugar bowl! I know, yuck! lol! But my dad believed they were real and picked up the bowl and threw it down the garden! We fell about laughing and even our mother was crying with laughter! So yes, have some fun but don't get carried away!

Get all the children to come around and make the Halloween Cards. Let them use their skills and imagination to make Cards, cut out spiders and costumes. For the costumes find out all your old jumpers, trousers and coats. Its amazing what you can do with a pair of scissors and some glue! Make it a party! Loads of music and playing dress up! Moms can join in too!

The Wizard of Oz Theme Night

Halloween Theme Night

Why not go for a Halloween Theme Party this year? Every Halloween children are invited to their friends parties, and they all get dressed up in Witches costumes, fright night, Freddie and of course the most famous of the lot, Scream! This year make it a film theme. Every single person who is invited has to be a character from that one particular film.

Give them name tags and act out part of the film. For example Jason and Freddie! Now that would be fun, or if the children are too young and may be scared, why not go for a Wizard of Oz costume party? That would be great as there are so many different fabulous characters in it.

The host of the party could be Dorothy or if your child is a boy then maybe the Tin Man, and everybody else can choose who they are going to be. You could always do a tombola to draw out the names of the people wearing the different costumes so that way there won't be any arguments!

Use your imagination. Aim for a film that has loads of weird and wonderful characters. From Harry Potter to Narnia.

Make Your Halloween a Spooky Experience With A Murder Mystery Halloween Style

Halloween isn't just for the kids. Grown ups love it too. A good idea is to book into a Murder Mystery Halloween Style weekend somewhere. There are many hotels across the States or Britain that cater for the gory guests who love a bit of horror and fright!

Or even stake out a Ghostly Haunted House! Invite all your friends and have a whole weekend of fun. So just have your celebrations on the weekend.

Go camping if the weather isn't too bad. Make a campfire and tell ghostly stories. The kids will love it, and the adults will probably be scared stiff!

Even incorporate a Spooky Ghost Theme for the countryside. Just don't tell any of the other guests! But please make sure they are not likely to drop dead with fright! We want fun, not an ambulance!

So there you have it. Make Halloween completely different this year. Don't just celebrate for a few hours, get out there and have some spooky Halloween fun!

Nell, loved this one, because Halloween just happens to be one of my favorite holidays. Your idea about the cards was totally ingenious and will definitely have to try to do something like this with my own girls. Have shared, voted up and of course tweeted too!!

Thanks Janine, I used to do this with my son when he was small, the house looked like a whirlwind had gone through it by the time they had finished making the cards and costumes, but hey it was fun! lol! thanks so much, nell

What fun ideas! I think Halloween is fun and I know people say it is a bad holiday but it was always an excuse for me to wear loads of make-up and be whoever I wanted to be...within reason, lol. I think it is the one time of year adults can be a real kid again!

Hi Jackie, I totally agree, I just wish we celebrated it more over here, I love dressing up! lol! thanks!

Nell Rose.....I love your ideas!! You're a creative, clever woman, you are!!.......For those who are seriously into the Halloween thing, I think they start deciding "what to be" in June!.....especially if they intend to make their costumes by hand, at home.....which of course are the best kind! In the past 20 years, I have gone to one adult Halloween Party and my hubby and I went as Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.......we were bold and disgusting!! LMAO........We won a prize.......I got a bottle of "stain remover" and my hubby got a CIGAR! We have very sick friends......wonderful hub, Nell........BOO! UP+++

Nell Rose, You really have some very good ideas. I used to do a lot of things for Halloween, but have slacked off. Maybe I will use some of your ideas to add a little fun this year. Thanks.

Nell -

I just can't make up my mind if I want to go to a party this year as the Queen of England, Dorothy of Kansas, or Prince Harry of Vegas! As it may be chilly, Prince Harry may not be an option. Perhaps Lady GaGa would be a better choice. Please help me make up my mind, oh great one! And please, don't say Toto!

Another great one, Nell! Good to see you!

I used to really like Halloween when I was a kid. All I can remember from last year is a load of kids, knocking a box of sweets out of my hand, while they tried to grab handfuls of them. This year I'm staying in the backroom and keeping the lights off.

Useful suggestions Nell. But I will be opting out of Halloween this year.

Great. Tips Nell. I love the Halloween themes and having a good scare. We used to go to Orlando in October when the parks did some awesome Halloween scare sessions for over 12s. The screams were outstanding!

You have terrific ideas here and love your pictures. Halloween is a huge holiday in many cities. We have lots of kids coming every year. No party though..I remember loving this holiday more than anything when I was young. I still remember my beautiful dance costume. Thanks for bringing back some memories.

I really love your ideas Nell, especially the theme party. Thinking up a costume is half the work; focusing on one genre makes it so much easier. Cheers!

My favorite holiday and yes, I've been thinking about my costume for some time now. It has to be one kids will easily recognize...we get about 300 trick or treaters so I need to make sure everything's right! My husband mans the fog machine..and so on and so on. I do send Halloween cards to my younger grandchildren but your ideas are great for those with kids still at home.

Voted up, useful, and interesting.

How about some Tony Blair and Gordon Brown masks for Hallowe'en? I know they're not altogether topical any more, but they're the most recent ghouls we've got in history - how about a Cherie Blair mask, give 'em the fright of their lives when you do a talk for charity and charge them the earth for the pleasure?

Great ideas, Nell. I wish the day after halloween would be a holiday to enjoy all the wonderful ideas you have given. I will this time be spending time to make a costume for my kid 'cause this is the first time he does not want to be a character but just some spooky person :) gotta get creative huh :)

I might corporate your idea of telling spooky stories 'cause my kid is lately been reading a lot of spooky books and best time to get those out from him and get creative myself :)

voted up as interesting and useful...Thanks Nell.

The Halloween cards and fake spiders sound like great fun, Nell! Halloween is very popular here, especially at the school where I teach. We always have special activities there to celebrate the holiday. At home I don't celebrate much, except to give candies to Trick-or-Treaters. Maybe I'll try something more ambitious this year!

Great ideas, Nell. When we were kids we made our own horror fun house in the rec room and basement of our house. It was a hoot. The neighbor kids came through our horror house and it was a hoot. They were squealing and crying from fright. It is so fun to enjoy Halloween - we're never to old for it. LOL
