Will someone tell the squirrel the Halloween costume goes on the OUTSIDE!

Halloween Couple Costumes and Halloween Quiz

Here are some funny Halloween couple costumes and a short Halloween History Quiz.

First, find a piece of paper, preferably blank, to write down the correct answer, a or b, for each question.

1. Why are orange and black Halloween colors?

a. Because red, white and blue were already taken.

b. Because orange is associated with the fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death.

2. Halloween is celebrated on:

a. November 1

b. October 31

3. Halloween has its origins in:

a. That famous song celebrating the creation of the first hot dog: “Hail, O Weenie.”

b. the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced ‘sah-win’). This festival celebrated the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause sickness or damage crops.

4. Traditional activities for today's Halloweeners include:

a. Tailgating parties and scavenger hunts

b. Trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting ‘haunted houses’ and carving jack-o-lanterns.

I know what you're thinking. At first glance, these great Adam and Eve Halloween costumes look like they are very revealing, but do not worry. Each costume is a flesh-tone jumpsuit with strategic leaf coverage. Also included are "leaf" headgear. One size fits most adults. Shipping weight is 4 pounds. Add a rubber snake ($1 at the dollar store) for the finishing touch!

5. The custom of celebrating Halloween began with:

a. Costume companies on the internet who recognized a niche when they saw one.

b. Irish and Scottish townsfolk who would dress in costumes and visit neighbors to solicit food for a feast in the town on All Hallow’s Eve, the evening before Hallowmas.

6. When did this holiday first begin?

a. When the internet became available to the masses.

b. During the Middle Ages.

Now you can show the world or at the very least the folks at the Halloween costume party how much you love M and M candy with this M and M candy costume. Included is one adult female standard yellow tank dress, one adult male red poncho costume. Guys: be sure to wear slacks or shorts underneath. Gloves also included. Shipping weight: 5 pounds.

This item has sold out. But here is how you can make your own M and M costume. Purchase a rectangular piece of cloth (red, green, blue or yellow) large enough to make a poncho - cut a circular hole in the middle to slip the cloth over your head. Wear long sleeve black high neck tee shirt and black tights or pants with black sneakers. Cut out M and M logo from white cloth and sew to front of poncho. Eureka! Your own home-sewn costume.

7. Why do we dress in costumes to celebrate Halloween?

a. To support the internet costume companies.

b. Because the ancient Celts (Irish) thought that spirits and ghosts roamed the countryside on Halloween night and began wearing masks and costumes to avoid being recognized as humans.

8. What were the original jack-o-lanterns made from in the Middle Ages?

a. They were carved from pumpkins.

b. In Ireland, people placed candles in hollowed out turnips or beets to keep away evil spirits, demons and ghosts on the Samhain holiday.

Now show everyone you are not only a couple but complimentary condiments, too. Adult one size fits most all. 100% polyester tunics. Wear your own long sleeve shirts underneath and under clothing. Hats are included.

9. What is the most popular Halloween candy for trick or treaters?

a. Saltwater taffy

b. Snickers

10. What do Halloween candy sales in the U.S. average annually?

a. Several thousand dollars

b, About two billion dollars.

I had to add these two adult Halloween costumes for men just because they are so funny. The male French Maid standard size costume fits men with chest sizes up to 42-44. It features a black dress with white lace trim. Accessories are a white headpiece and matching apron. Bring your own feather duster.

The male Ballerina costume fits most adults. It includes the beautiful pink tutu. Shipping weight is 4 pounds. Add your own white tights and clunky shoes like Army boots for the finishing touch.

For the ladies who want to wear matching costumes, the Adult French Maid costume inclues saucy dress, apron, hat, feather duster, fishnet stockings, and garter. For an added touch, wear your velvet choker and white gloves. Shipping weight 1 pound.

The Adult Ballerina costume includes a ballerina dress made of 100% polyester, tiara, stockings and choker. It is available in Medium (Bust 36-38", Waist 27-30") and Large (Bust 38-40" and Waist 31-34").

11. The fear of Halloween is called:

a. Halloweenophobia

b. Samhainophobia

Did you write down your answers to the Halloween Quiz? Are you bouncing up and down with anticipation to learn your score?

As you certainly guessed by now, the correct answers for each question are “b”. If you answered “a” for any question, you are Halloween-knowledge-challenged.

Or . . . like the author, you forgot to take your meds today. :) Happy Halloween!

Footnote: When Europeans arrived in the New World they found pumpkins plentiful and being used in cooking by Native Americans. They soon substituted pumpkins for the small Jack-o-Lantern turnips and beets.

Thanks for the "funny" rating, Hillary. You're spot on with your comment, too, we'll all be down to our underwear soon with rising taxes, increasing bureaucracy and the threat of inflation.

Not surprised at your perfect score either, Ms. Perfection!

:) Thanks for the visit.

I, of course, got a perfect score! (grin) Halloween is my very favorite holiday. When else can you dress up and get FREE CANDY!

My costumes have included:

Female Vampire (with O+ bags o' blood from my private stash)

Biker Broad

Tattooed Lady (Temp Tats)

Lady Godiva

Grim Reaper

Joan Jett

When you suggested the matching snake for the Adam and Eve costume, at first I thought you were referencing something extra for Adam's costume. Okay, I got it now.

Halloween is a fun time of year for me, and I always enjoy seeing what kids wear when they go trick-or-treating. I haven't been quite as ready to personally don a costume for a party since I gained some weight, but I have been known to wear an odd costume on occasion.

I always choke on quizzes, so nicomp need not worry--I personally brought down the curve.

We do not do the haloween-thing in Africa, but we watch the rest doing it. Lately, some has caught the bug and do it with the rest of the world, just for the fun of it.

Being a hubber now, I suppose the fellow hubbers will definitely keep me on track, like you just did!

Hi, Lela - You really know how to have fun on Halloween. Yep, free candy is a great attraction. Are you going trick or treating? And what costume are you wearing this year?

I'm smiling as I'm imagining the Lady Godiva costume. Did you ride a horse? Did the horse wear a costume, too?

drbj profile image

Mike - you rascal, you. Fair warning, I know my asp from a snake in the ground.

The great thing about costumes - buy one of a suitable size and it can cover a myriad of assets. (I think I may be stuck in an X-rated twilight zone.)

Not to worry about the quiz - no penalty is involved. As always, I appreciate your visits and your fun comments.

So are you dressing up for Halloween?

drbj profile image

drbj 6 years ago from south Florida Author

It's interesting, equealla, that many folks living in other countries besides the U.S. have caught the Halloween bug, so to speak, and if they don't go so far as to trick or treat, everyone seems to love dressing up for a costume party.

Thanks for the visit; delighted I could provide you with some Halloween commentary.

I'm a fan of Halloween, too, katie, and it's always more fun when your children get excited about the holiday, too.

Thanks for your visit; delighted you enjoyed the quiz, too. Already knew you were a superior "student," but had you pegged for an A+.

drbj profile image

drbj 6 years ago from south Florida Author

Hi, susie, I knew you were also an A student. Thanks for the "cool hub" comment.

Since you asked about my costume, I have been invited to a Halloween party at the office of one of my biggest clients but will also be presenting a workshop there so my costume has to be subdued and not too gaudy.

So I will wear a business suit - blouse, skirt and jacket - with a small card on the lapel that says: "Ask me about my costume!"

When someone asks, I will daintily lift my skirt just a few inches to display small individual cards pinned to the bottom of my slip that read: "Ego, Id, Superego, Oedipus complex" and "Psychoanalysis." Then explain: "I am dressed as a Freudian slip."

Freudian Slip! How cool. I love it. Well, I'm way past the days when I could pull off Lady Godiva, but yes, I was riding the horse too. No costume for the horse, we went "bare back".

This year in honor of my new favorite TV show, I will be Gemma from Sons of Anarchy, or as close as I can get to a biker chick.

I'm ordering the maid costume for Bob - or maybe I should go with the Adam and Eve - except there is that snake around his neck! Bleck!

I'm not a huge fan of Halloween and I don't even know why! But I have to say you gave me a giggle - I'm thinking now maybe the Drag Queen for Bob - he's just so darned funny he could pull it off. Not sure yet what I should be though....truly - I could just don my accordion and some makeup and be that fat lady that used to be on Drew Carey's show....hmmm - must think on it some more.

Totally clever as ever and love the costumes!

A. Take away its chair.

drbj profile image

drbj 6 years ago from south Florida Author

Thank you, Lela, happy you love my costume. I'm sorry I missed the Lady Godiva "bareback" on the horse. Maybe you will write a new hub and post your Gemma costume. Do you have a motorcycle? Tho I suppose you could use a horse if you have to.

drbj profile image

drbj 6 years ago from south Florida Author

Audrea - I would love to see Bob in either of those costumes with his manly appearance and a woebegone look on his face.

As for your costume, after that hub on "killing" fish, you might want to consider a dominatrix outfit with a fishing pole as a whip. Just kidding, you know.

I'm really visualizing you as Snow White or Cinderella because your heart is so pure and you have found your Prince Charming! Have to make it up to Bob, you know.

Thank you for the "clever as ever" comment - you know I will use it.

This is my families favorite holiday. it's "Calan Gaeaf" in Welsh. We have a big party every Halloween and the crowd seems to get bigger evry year. One of our old Welsh traditions that we do; I have fire pit in the center of our yard and a place in the house with a pen and paper handy. Guests go there and write down all the negative things in their life, then, the person dressed as death goes around with a cauldron, gathers all the folded pieces of paper and throws them into the fire. It's a very popular part of our Halloween celebration.

Thank you very much for this Hub it's so well written and presented. You do excellent work.

drbj profile image

Hi, ianto. "Happy Calan Gaeaf" to you. Your Welsh tradition about having "Mr. Death" burn all the negative notes is a great idea. I can see it catching on here in the U.S. Especially if Halloween party-goers in our country remember that the fire for burning the slips of paper is in a pit outside and not inside.

Thank you for visiting and your very kind comments.

Well I have to say drbj - what a clever, well presented and down right interesting hub dish you served up with this one.

I'm impressed to say the least - and feel the need to start pumpkin carving to say the most. Unfortunately (or not, depending upon your perspective) I'm a Halloween misery.

I leave candy outside the door, in the hope the door-knockers refrain from knocking. Usually involves candy-free-for-alls but at least I get to see some action. Moms don't like their little ones getting all greedy ;)

Fokke University sounds a hoot by the way. Sign me up. And shhhhhh. The new persona is best left as is ... anon.

A well served hub, rated up, awesomed and enjoyed!

drbj profile image

drbj 6 years ago from south Florida Author

Hi, BD - how exhilarating to meet you. With all those marvelous, lovable hub-describing adjectives, you may just be my newest BFF.

Be careful with that pumpkin carving, although it is so much easier to carve a Halloween pumpkin than a Halloween turnip!

I'm back to doling out Snickers again for the trick or treaters. Last year I gave them apples but when I dropped them into their shopping-bag-sized sacks, they complained I broke their cookies.

By all means, visit "Fokk University" and sign up - an alias is allowed.

Thanks for stopping by - hope to see more of you.

drbj profile image

Ah, izettl - you are indeed a woman of discretion. The blue ones taste the best! The candy, that is, not the costume. I have been searching for another source for that costume.

In the meantime, why not just buy a suitable length of bright blue material, fold it in half, cut a hole in the top for your head, and voila, a poncho. You can add the M&M logo in white or black to the front. No charge.

I enjoy the pictures of all the costumes. The ballerina and maid were a bit shocking, really. I am for once, not a failure at one of your quizzes! :)

I want to dress up for Halloween for school, with a costume that corresponds with the other teacher in my core. I'm thinking about dressing up as an old grouchy lady, and asking her to dress up as a young nice woman. We have a running joke that I am the nice young one and she is the old mean one (she is not that old!). The kids never know what to say when I get called by the wrong name and my response is, "I'm not old and mean, so stop calling me that!" LOL!

drbj profile image

Congrats on scoring so well in the quiz. If you think the ballerina and the maid costumes for men are shocking, can you even begin to imagine the shock and amazement their spouses or partners will exhibit upon seeing them in costume for the first time? Would love to be a fly on those walls.

Clever idea, AC, with dressing as the "old, mean" teacher. Only problem, if this is a costume you will be wearing in school, you may influence the young, impressionable minds of your students with the old mean view and never change their perceptions of you. Be careful what you 'dress' for.
