How Does One Commemorate And Heal From An Anniversary Such As September 9/11?

Source

What is an anniversary?

The commemoration of a specific date in history on which an event took place; in which the preceding years, such as the anniversary of taking wedding vows in a marriage, the entry into the threshold when someone moved into a new home, the erection of a monument, an inauguration of a ship to sea, or the upon the death of a loved one. Anniversaries may be joyous or sad occasions depending upon the type of event being remembered, honored, celebrated and commemorated.

A View From The Sky In Preparation For This Day

2011 Hubpages Commemorate September 911

How does one commemorate an anniversary, such as September 9/11?

In this year 2011, we have collected a decade of speeches, diaries, recordings, remembrances, photographs, memories, telephone conversations, arguments, analysis, videos, debates, vlogs and blogs. The letters that have been written, the poems read, the songs sung, the music played, the bells rung and so much more. The reading and rubbing of names. Time passed slowly and then picked up the pace as each year has passed. Imagine, ten years of anniversaries, ten years to look back and wonder about that day's events. We offer words of comfort to each other.

Making The Day Holy

Organizations may plan in advance special events to make this day holy, to honor the people involved whether they were part of the rescue teams, those trapped in the events of the day, or those left behind to mourn and carry on the traditions. Families may come together to talk about how the time has effected them and how they have changed due to those events.

A Solemn Day To Pray

Since September 9/11 was a day in infamy, and a great loss of life and national security, it has become a time to be solemn, maybe to have a minute of silence, to light some candles, to send a card or email, to pray or hold each other's hand, to give a look of understanding, or to say a few words.

We are often asked, "Where were you on September 9/11?"

Children born in the year 2011 turn one year older. What do they remember? In fact, their spiritual essence may have been effected by the state of the parents and siblings. A sense of terror, fear and insecurity could bring a child into a more insecure environment. Instead of letting the child outside to play freely, more steps to secure their whereabouts or safety may lead to over-protection.

The entire nation has developed this sensibility and our government has utilized this sense of fear and trepidation to take more power over the people, as we relinquish our freedoms, all for a facade of security. Just this week I heard the removal of shoes at the airport may be a thing of the past, yet in its place will be other types of intrusions upon our privacy.

A Nation Mourns

When one grieves individually, especially if you were personally touched by a loss of friend, associate or family member, or one grieves the loss of a kind of perspective and feeling about life the world changes forever. We cannot turn back the hands of time, but how do we heal and go forward?

How do we honor those who have lost their lives in September 9/11?

Many organizations or funds have emerged to help rebuild the location of the twin towers, to give to the fire-fighters, police and emergency squads. We recognize and respect the public workers that we perhaps took for granted. We see the need for more public service volunteer workers and trained emergency personnel. Communities may erect walkways, parks, and quiet spaces for contemplation on the world's events. Have we merged closer to our families and communities for strength in preparations for the days ahead? I'm sure there are many more ways to honor this day and make it part of our daily lives.

Homeopathy Heals Trauma

In what state are we living after the trauma?

Here I would like to present the homeopathic perspective on healing after deep wounds. We can investigate the themes of how we have been effected and types of remedies to help the body, mind and spirit cope and recover from pain.

What kinds of stress do you have everyday and what coping mechanisms have you developed?

First is a state of shock. Do you feel you have still not recovered? The literature that homeopaths utilize consist of the materia medica which catalogs the medicines and drugs and all their effects clinical and proven. The repertories itemize the symptoms in an organized fashion with lists of homeopathic remedies that have been used to heal these particular symptoms. Some are at a higher grade than others. Some have been used more often and consistently in certain situations.

  • For a person who harbor an expression of terror or delirium three major remedies have been used: belladonna, cuprum and stramonium

For someone who you observe have an expression of fright a list of 29 remedies can be found, so it is best to always consult a professional who can do a full consultation and evaluate your total needs, rather than selecting a remedy upon one symptom alone. A few of the highest grades for this frightful expression include: Aconite, ail, baptisia, cantharis, spongia, stramonium, and veratrum album. You will find that a few remedies keep rising to the top because they cover many of the symptoms acquired after a trauma.

Now what if the person suppresses their fear and instead when they sleep the unconscious mind expresses their terror in dreams? For this, if one dreams of terrorists, which I can imagine could be happening to many people working in government, at airports, high security locations or concerned about attacks since we hear on the news media daily of these events then two remedies have recently been proven as helpful. These two minerals are carbon dioxide and ozone. They have also been helpful for young children who have learning disabilities.

Another way the mind/body/spirit responds to trauma can be reoccurring panic attacks that totally overpower the person's calm. This amount of fear can be tallied with a number of other rubrics. In my research there were over 60 remedies listed for panic attacks. Of those remember Aconite, argentrum-nitricum, bamboo, cannabis, coffee, cuprum, gelsemium, graphite, bromide of potash, opium, stramonium, tarentula, and veratrum album. Those are just a few. You can see how aconite, cuprum, stramonium and veratrum album keep coming up in the repertory. Each remedy has a particular symptom picture that describes how the person reacts to stress.

There is a whole set of other remedies for children in a state of fear. See the image that shows the remedies. Aconite, arsenicum, aurum-bromide, baryta-carb, bismuth, boron, bufo, calcarea car, carcinosin, causticum, chelidonium, chlol, cina, cuprum, cuprum-acet, gelsemium, ignatia, kali-bromide, kali-phos, lycopodium, opium, phosphorus, plac, plutonium-nitricum, staphysagria, stramonium, syphilinum and tuberculinum are some of them in bold letters.

When a person has experience such a dramatic event, that came out of no where and was so sudden, like an attack, we can research this feeling. A person may continue to have this delusion that they will be attacked at any moment. I want to thank Roger van Zanvoort for the illustrations from his computer program CompleteDynamics

Our Nation Is Built Upon Pride and Justice And The American Way

Innocence Lost

When we have felt this fright and terror, suddenly our nation and we, as individuals may feel vulnerable. We now have a weaker position in society, our innocence lost. With this fear of attack, the response may to be to hide, shrink away, stay to ourselves. Or, instead, we may become more bold. Depending upon each person's individual nature will be their response to life events.

Has the integrity of this country disintegrated?

Do more people feel they can no longer stand for injustices in the world? There are 76 remedies for persons who feel this way. Many emotional reactions including, shame, offense, feeling accused, becoming defiant or event averse to politics may be an outcome from such world events.

A Desire to Protect Self and Others

On the other hand, a mother wants to protect their children, a father wants to protect the family and nation. So, we have a number of homeopathic remedies for the issues of security, defense and protection. Don't forget if a parent becomes over protective, this might stifle to growth and independence of the children. They may become insecure and feel more afraid then if they were given the opportunities to feel independent and test new things and places.

There are three specific remedies that turn up for the delusion when a person feels they have no defense or shield of protection: carcinosin, peregrine falcon and Stoichactis kenti the sea anemone.

Who Is The Real Enemy?

A person may feel not just attacked but as if they are pursued. Mirelli provides 375 potential remedies for this theme. And a smaller list when we look at specifically pursued by an enemy. I imagine a number of government officials, war veterans and soldiers may have this feeling. Or they could feel as if everyone is their enemy, which many might call paranoia.

Religious Affections

The next theme that I think of concerns going to church or getting closer to a higher being. Desiring to understand more about the universe when all things seem chaotic and out of control. I can imagine that people turn to God and search for answers on how to heal. For these responses of individuals and even communities who have undergone such intense trauma, as in the Haiti earthquake and the September 9/11 crashes and bombings, frightful images of fire, ash and people jumping from windows or being stuck in stairwells, we can investigate these anxieties about salvation.

Five Homeopathic Remedies Associated With Religious Affection

Five remedies appear for person who constantly talk about religious subjects: Banded demoiselle (damselfly) which must feel quite vulnerable and fragile, hyoscyamus henbane a plant in the solanacea family, stramonium jimsonweed also in the solanacea family , hydrogen-sulphide which must have explosive properties and veratrum album white hellebore in the lily family.

What about Fear of Impending Evil?

When a person has a scare or fright that shock may stick with them. This can be carried into the future even when the episode has ended. We can investigate when the mind is afraid of evil which brings up 192 possible remedies. Or simply that something bad or evil will happen to them, which shows 128 potential homeopathic remedies. But, if we look at feeling sadness with this feeling of impending evil the scope is narrowed to just five.

You may ask yourself if you are constantly praying, have become more spiritual, or desire a more spiritual connection because the forces on the ground cannot protect you from these evil or unseen forces of darkness? The whole nation can have compassion and comprehend such feelings when we have all experienced a terrorist attack of this magnitude together. However, how do we lift these anxieties? We can still remain religious and close to God, but not in a way that stifles our wholeness and courage and move about freely.

Anger and Silent Grief
Anger and Silent Grief
Suspicious, mistrustful, betrayed
Suspicious, mistrustful, betrayed

Have We Been Wounded?

Do we have permanent scars from the September 9/11 experience? Could one feel wounded both in body and in spirit? How easily when we are hurt, cut, bruised in our soul being this place can remain as an open sore, or this place easily reopened like an old wound? Especially, we have a rubric that says, "Grief, from feeling wounded: Chamomilla and Ignatia" These two very emotional remedies may help.

America Is A Proud Nation

Could the core of American national pride have been bruised? We have specifically ten remedies listed for "Ailments from injured pride and feeling wounded." Of those I will mention the bald eagle our national bird, palladium a valuable metal and staphysagrias a plant that heals old wounds when people walk about with a facade of a happy face and pleasant nature, but deep down they feel anger. Well, I will add one more, that one Helleborus has also been mentioned because of its strong religious connection.

If persons have been living in a quiet state of grief and loss, it may be time to recover. Those who still mourn those dark days with silent grief, feelings of collapse can find help with homeopathic remedies. As indicated in the previous set of remedies, a good number of people may harbor resentment and anger along with sadness and grief. For those individuals there are a good number of potential remedies.

From Innocence To Skepticism

A reaction to injury, feeling wounded or hurt pride could be settling in of doubt of the securities of your surrounding or the people around you. As one feels under attack but forces unseen, one could also look to the authorities or governments as trying to deceive you, or promote falsehoods or untruths. A person may feel manipulated and then skepticism sets in. This theme of suspicion, feeling betrayed, deceived and mistrustfulness contains a long list of remedies. They must be evaluated with the totality of the case and all the other physical and emotional symptoms portrayed by the individual.

Nightmares In Adults and Children

Can you trace a change in sleep habits from a fright? It could be that a trauma results in nightmares. With this comes the natural startle response upon hearing loud noises and sounds. Since the crash of airplanes into the Twin Towers and Pentagon, suddenly when people experienced the August 2011 Virginia earthquake and in surrounding states everyone started to freak out and immediately had flashbacks to September 9/11. These impressions remain not just as reminders but as brain signals and cellular impulses that immediately put a person into a stressful state of existence. Here we can research startles easily and information about nightmares.

  • Waking from a frightful nightmare or dream indicates four possible remedies: nux-vomica, henweed in the phytolacca family, sarsparilla in the lily family and silica a mineral that provides stamina.

Over a hundred remedies can be found simply from startling from noise and specifically under certain conditions or times of day or night, or starting from sleep.

Ailments from Shock

I would like to end this presentation with a note about ailments from shock. Everyone has experienced a shock of one sort or another. As kids, something suddenly comes out in the dark of night, a sibling plays a trick on you, as a teen you may fall while playing or become embarrassed, or perhaps get into an accident. Losing a loved one, moving away from your home or having a break in a relationship can all be considered shocking.

When I look upon some of the documentary photos, they appear like surreal frozen moments in time or like movie footage. It couldn't be real! We watch so many of these war films or espionage where buildings blow up, bombs planted that we may become numb to explosions and images that have already been implanted into our minds. Thus we can feel paralyzed with fear and dread. I hope this commemorative piece has assisted anyone who feels that this anniversary has impacted their lives in a way that has prevented them from moving forward. This Day In History | The Energy of This Day

  • Each and every moment of each and every day possesses a potential energy for good and evil to harm or heal the world. We can learn these lessons from the Old Testament and the Prophets. On this day: Noah Dispatches Raven (2105 BCE) | On the 10th of Elul of the year 1656 from creation (2105 BCE), as the Great Flood neared its end, Noah opened the window of the Ark and dispatched a raven to determine if the flood waters had begun to recede (Genesis 8:1; Rashi).

  • As the last month of the Jewish year, Elul is traditionally a time of introspection and stocktaking of all the days that have passed before in that year. Each person reviews their relationships, the good deeds and fulfillment of goals. The Jewish people look forward to High Holy Days when God's spirit comes close. The sages record this month of forgiveness as a time of mercy after making reparations for misdeeds, and harmful words spoken. This is a time of love and the potential to repair broken relationships, whether they be individual or on a greater scale, even at international levels. When we pray wholeheartedly, give to those in need and increase our love for all beings we enhance this day and this month.

It is said that at all times there are 36 special people in the world, and that were it not for them, all of them, if even one of them was missing, the world would come to an end. And the words you write here ""Each and every moment of each and every day possesses a potential energy for good and evil to harm or heal the world. " rings true. This page truly is special and so much good information for all of us.

Many, many thanks dear WaveGirl. We don't know who are the living prophets in every generation and they may be male or female. Sometimes I just wish they would announce themselves. Although, since we don't know EXACTLY who they are, we may imagine it is any one of the people who touch our lives. Blessings, Debby

Hello my wonderful friend Derdriu ~ If only I had more time to post new material and to read all of your great works here. Today, I just recorded a special show with Dr Aadil, cardiologist from India about Congenital Heart Defects. Our heart plays such an important part in our health. So, even the emotional fallout can effect how our heart beats. As far as I know, only homeopathy has the power to address these deep emotional issues and help the MIND/BODY to heal. Blessings, Debby
