Receiving New Years Cards

Some people might wonder, "Do people really send New Years Cards?" Well, I just received one today actually, in the mail! In fact, it is a handmade Happy New Year Card from my husband's aunt and uncle that live about two hours away from us. We used to see them at least once a year or maybe two, every year. In the last several years however, we have all been too busy, and had too much going on, which is very unfortunate.

Well, I usually send out Christmas cards to everyone. Well this year I never really got around to it. I ended up sending out cards barely in time, to some that sent me cards, and didn't get them all sent! I felt awful, but also know that our lives are so busy, that most that know us will understand. Well its likely the same for this wonderful aunt and uncle of ours, as they didn't send out cards either at Christmas. Well lo and behold, we get a Happy New Year card on New Years Eve! What an excellent idea! It has a boldly stamped, "Happy New Year" message inside. Its bright, beautiful, and hand crafted, and I couldn't love it more.

Part of what makes these kinds of cards so very special, is that they aren't really expected, a true surprise. So keep this in mind if you are ever considering sending a Happy New Year card to a friend, relative, neighbor, or some other acquaintance. They will feel so special, just as we did in our house this year. I took a picture of it to share with you all! It has fireworks on it, and is sparkling bright green, with little gems on it. Its wonderful, and truly made my day after coming home from work.

The Homemade Card My Aunt Made

This beautiful sparkling green card that my Aunt made is simple, yet classy! I will try to explain what I believe she did, based on my own crafting experiences in the past. It looks like she had a plain cardstock base, and you can use white or off white, or any color you like really. She then used glossy, green card stock, which she embossed the fireworks onto. There several tools one can use for this. Then she had little jewels of some kind, to use in the fireworks. Simple, yet beautiful! It looks very professionally done, but is handmade.

She cut the green card stock smaller than the rest of the card, so it does a natural framing effect.

It is hard to show how nice it is, as my camera phone doesn't do it justice, and perhaps its a reflection thing with the surrounding lights, etc. Inside, it has a huge stamped phrase that simply says, "Happy New Year!" It is done in a deep burgundy color and the card is gorgeous. She then wrote her own simple sentiment in it. It is a joy to make these cards, in my experience. Its very satisfying even, and you just don't want to become too much of a perfectionist with it. Enjoy the process, and know any little imperfections are a bigger deal to you, than to others. Others hardly notice them! I love that my Aunt made and sent this card to us!

This was a very helpful and interesting hub oceansunsets(love that name). I hadn't really heard of 'Happy New Year' cards before, but why not, it's a great idea and as you say extra special because it's unexpected. Besides there is always someone you forget at Xmas, then it's too late. Voted up.

Hi Jodah, so glad you thought this helpful and interesting, even though the idea of sending such a card is not the norm! As for my name, thank you for that! If its too long, you are welcome to call me Paula.

As for the idea of a New Years Card, it occurred to me when I received one some years back and again this year. I love the idea of cards, and know Hallmark in the USA has a section both in their stores and in their online ecards for New Years cards. So yes, why not? As for people that we may have forgotten on Christmas, excellent point! And the person sending it looks very thoughtful. Thank you for your visit, comment and vote Jodah. Happy New Year to you!

I have not sent a New Year greeting card. But, I received some while on job from suppliers and customers. I send my new year wishes only through my mobile to my relatives and may be to some close friends.

Peachpurple, I thought of the Chinese New Year when making this hub also. I am not familiar too much with what people do to celebrate their New Year. I imagine all places are a little different. Thank you for your visit and comment, and Happy New Year to you!

Hi Venkatachari, I think sending out these kinds of cards is pretty rare, though I may try to do it more in the future than in the past. That sounds nice, that you got some New Year greetings in the past like that. Thank you for stopping by and sharing and commenting. Happy New Year to you!

To the best of my knowledge, I've never sent nor received a New Year card, but it's a great idea. I usually add a Happy New Year in the Christmas card. I love this hub, I'll be saving it for next year. Voting up and useful.

I was just reading the New Years cards are now a thing. I should probably start sending them. I always get my Christmas cards out so late that they don't arrive until after Christmas, anyway.

Hi Jo, I am glad you stopped by and commented. Over the years, on many Christmas cards I receive, they also say Happy New Year, and I do that also sometimes. It makes me think of the song, "We wish you a Merry Christmas.....and a Happy New Year!" I'm so glad you liked the hub. Happy New Year to you!

Hello Deborah, The last couple of years my Christmas cards went out late, if at all. I usually am so good about it, but am working more than I had been so maybe that is part of the reason I find it hard to find the time. I still like to send them and love receiving them! I love getting a card, even if it is "late" in coming. It means the person was really thoughtful, in my opinion! Glad you stopped by and left a comment, thank you. Happy New Year!
