Lovers and Valentines in Art

Love and Lovers In Art

Whether ancient or new, art has a way of capturing feelings and emotion, and lovers are a favorite topic over time for sure. This hub is an article that is really more of a photo gallery. You will see a collection of several pieces of different art from varying artists over history. What a wonderful topic, and it comes near one of our most beloved holidays. That being, Valentine's Day.

I hope this does a number of different things, like expose you to new artists that you maybe didn't hear of before. Or perhaps stir something inside of you or inspire perhaps. Regardless, I hope you enjoy these images as much as I have.

Make sure to see all the images of art in this hub by either clicking on each thumbnail, or by watching the slide show. The slide show is more enjoyable I think. One of the things that stood out to me while viewing these pieces of art, was that while I liked them all for one reason or another, I really liked when the picture tells a story. I also enjoyed seeing the "lovers" in the art, as one very small part of the larger picture or story. I can't imagine how much time and effort went into all these pieces. I think it a great thing we look at and remember the old great artists of the past.

These images can be great to share near Valentine's Day, or any time of the year. I love art, and this subject is by no means the least of all subject matter that could be covered in art!

Some Quotes about Love and Lovers:

"A true lover always feels in debt to the one he loves." Ralph W. Sockman

"We waste time looking for the perfect love, instead of creating the perfect love." Tom Robbins

"Lovers are fools, but Nature makes them so." Elbert Hubbard

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13 Paul the Apostle

"Though lovers be lost, love shall not." Dylan Thomas

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and view this gallery of images. I hope you were inspired or touched somehow.

This one is kind of stark, interesting, and sad. It could be a mix of many other emotions as well. Curious what others thoughts are on this piece. Hans Burgkmair the Elder - Lovers Surprised by Death. This one is so sad also, and you can't help but wonder at the story from the artists point of view. Chiaroscuro woodcut. St. Louis Art Museum.

I love the selection of paintings you put into this hub. Some are really scenic, affectionate, and a few are downright erotic. I've never seen that particular painting of Van Gogh, no wonder this is your favorite because it's really a gorgeous painting. Up and awesome and beautiful.

Thank you for your comment and thoughts on this art selection, and votes. That one from Van Gogh was new to me also, and I was so happy to have found it. There seems to be so much art out there that I hope to see more of in the same way. Thanks again.
