Is Santa Clause true or just a Myth?

Santa Claus... if I would compare this man in this modern day, he might be a great celebrity or an influential politician or a millionaire maybe. Here is what I know about Santa Claus.

Santa Claus is also know as Saint Nicholas in some countries, or Father Christmas. Santa is historical, legendary and mythological character who is believed to bring many gifts, especially to good children, on Christmas eve. He is characterized with red and white stuffs with a large black belt and sometimes smoking a pipe.

According to history Santa Claus was a 4th century Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now known as Turkey. It is said that he was famous for his generosity to the poor.[1]

Times passed and Saint Nicholas became famous in Europe. There the paganism crept in and altered the true identity of Saint Nicholas. To the Germans he was unioned with the god Odin, who would each year, at the native Germanic holiday of Yule, have a great hunting party accompanied by his fellow gods and fallen warriors residing in his realm. Thus, came into the Christmas holiday the Yule logs, Yule Goat and even the Christmas tree.[2]

Well, many stories point out to who Santa Claus is. But for me, Santa is merely an imagination, a myth. There is no such man who'll fly with reindeers and lands at rooftops and slide down to chimneys. I don't even see any connection of him to Jesus or is Christmas really for Jesus. There is only one thing I can say; the Christmas we're celebrating is just all about the holiday, there is nothing that leads to Jesus' birth. Christmas is so messed up and so confusing. Christmas today is all about materials.

Jesus was not born in a manger in a cold winter. And being born in this wretched Earth is not worth celebrating for. I prefer to celebrate my departure from Earth rather my being born into it. That is why Christmas is not so important for me. Christ's birth did not save me from eternal damnation, His death did. God bless you.

Your last point is correct.

His death did. God bless you.

Surely Christmas is a nice time we can all enjoy with our children, mainly commercialized, I know. Does it cause you any harm? perhaps to your credit card.

I like your Santa story, but I disagree with your logic about Christmas having nothing to do with Jesus. Yes, Christmas is very materialized and the dates of His birth may not match perfectly, but it is a time set to remember the moment He traded crowns ( Royalty For Pain) and agreed to be sent to this earth as a babe with the destiny to die for our sins. There is NOTHING that better represents GIVING than this. Jesus is your reason to live, Christmas may bring you nothing but painful memories, but you were born with a purpose worth celebrating, you just have to give it ALL to Jesus, cause He came all this way for you. The focus of Christmas depends on the participator the reason for your confusion is people have long ago took the focus off Jesus. HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

Thanks for your comments. For me personally, Christmas has to be commemorated in the right time. Yeah, He may be the reason for the season but there are many other reason why people celebrate Christmas. I just hope that the spirit of Christmas be always focused of Him, not to any other. It pains me to hear that Christmas is celebrated because Jesus came to Earth to save our sins but I am thankful that He did. For me, if I will to celebrate Christmas, I would do it reverently beacause Jesus came to Earth to die not so that we can celebrate Christmas. Thanks.

Nice hub, but his birth is important, if he wasn't born how would he have died & Christians celebrate it because it's your prophet, it's the Lord's son!!! Celebrate his birth! Do you not celebrate your birthday? Why should you not celebrate his? Not trying to be mean, just giving some advice, really nice otherwise! Excellent!

Actually, I did not mean not to celebrate my birthday or not celebrate Jesus birthday here. I'm saying that we should celebrate His death more than His birthday because it is His death that saves us all, not His birthday. Well, whatever it is, that is what I'm trying to say.

Ooooohh!! That makes much more sense, just one thing though you don't celebrate his death, you mourn his death (Good Friday), you celebrate his re-birth, when he rose from the dead (Easter)
