The Real Meaning of Christmas-Mary's Secret Lullaby

Mary's Secret Lullaby

Everyone says I'm blessed, you know

For the God of Heaven smiled

And my name will live eternally

But my dreams are dark and wild

I see you stained and scarred and hurt

And my heart it breaks in two

For I was chosen and you choose

To bear our secret sinful thoughts and

The weight of all we do

And Jesus I don't know

If I can bear what I have seen

I saw the head I'm stroking now

I saw the thorns, the cross and how

I couldn't stop it, make it better

Everyone says I'm blessed, I guess

Everyone is right

But would they say it if they knew

The fears that come at night

When I look into your eyes, my little one

I think somehow you know

What I dream

Is what you dreamed

An eternity ago

The love of a mother for her child (even if that child is jesus himself!) is just unselfish... tinged with fears and concern for him...and you've captured that beautifully in this one.

Yes, the whole world thinks Mary was blessed, but how painful it must have been to witness what happened to her child and the sacrifice it meant. And the last line, knowing that the child had more foresight than the mother herself...yes, beautiful poem....! (And I love that painting by Klimt)

:)I usually don't reply to comments on someone else's hub, but that's such a beautiful thing you said: 'my own world is richer for having met you!'" wow! That's one of the nicest things someone's said to me here....thank you!

Thank you Phoebe, may we all only have to write such thoughts from the third person. =:)
