Make a Gift Basket for a Movie Buff

Making a Gift Basket for the Movie Lover is Easy

To make a gift basket for someone who loves the movies is so easy and you have a lot of creative options. First you need to have a basket, of course, and here you can think outside of the box. Instead of a wicker basket consider using something that you see a lot in the movies...that's right a popcorn bucket.. Depending on how much you want to spend you can get something really inexpensive made from cardboard or you splurge for something sturdier and longer lasting, usually in plastic or enamelware. Here are some examples to the right to get you thinking. The most important thing is that you have something that is deep enough to hold the other items in your themed gift basket.

What Should You Put in the Basket?

How you want to fill up that popcorn tub or bowl really depends on the person.

If the person that you are making the gift basket for loves to go out to see the movies, then consider buying a voucher for a pair of tickets from your local theater. You might also want to add in a voucher for popcorn and soda to complete their night out at the movies. Now since these are essentially paper and somewhat unexciting in a gift box, you should dress it up a little. Put these vouchers in a gold-colored envelope and decorate it with pictures of film reels or paste pictures of a favorite actor or actress or a picture of their favorite movie scene; these are fairly easy to find in popular magazines.

If the person prefers to stay in and have a movie night, then consider getting them a subscription to Netflix or DVDs of movies from genres that they prefer or DVDs of the current hit movies. Again, depending on your budget, you might want to add a CD of a soundtrack to one of their favorite movies or a giftcard for itunes or some other online music provider. Just like the movie tickets, you might want to dress up the subscription in a fun envelope.

If You Have a Bigger Budget

You might consider buying either a portable DVD player or tablet for the gift basket recipient, it's a personalized and cool way to watch movies.

This 9-inch Sony DVD player is one of the best in its class. Pictures are crisp and clear, colors are vivid. This is smaller than a netbook and the battery life offers you six hours of continuous play. It also has a USB port to watch your own movies and pictures and it has touch key controls for greater convenience and ease.

The Kindle Fire is an e-reader but you can also use it to watch movies! However you must also buy a membership an Amazon Prime membership that allows you to watch thousands of movies and television shows that can be streamed into your Kindle Fire. You also can also stream movies and television shows through Netflix and Hulu Plus. It has 8GB of storage and 7.5 hours of playback.

If you prefer the convenience of a mortar and pestle store to help you with your e-reader with technical assistance, consider the Nook Tablet. Netflix and Hulu Plus are pre-loaded and you get a free trial. It provides you with 9 hours of video watching time, 16GB of storage, and can accept up to a 32GB SD card. You can switch between books, movies, and games effortlessly.

What to Use for Filler?

To bulk up the basket, use filler that's approriate. If the gift basket is for a person who likes to go out to see the movies, fill you popcorn tub with a couple of boxed candies, you know the kind that you see in the movies. You might also want to include bagged popcorn in the gift basket. If the gift basket is for a person who wants to stay in to watch the movies, then your filler should be a bag of unpopped popcorn and/or a variety of individually wrapped candies.

Other things you might want to use for filler, again considering your budget; a small picture or poster of a favorite actor or actress, an item that is connected to their favorite movie (for example a wand for a Harry Potter movies fan), or a book a movie was based on. It's really anything that you can think of that personalizes the gift basket. The more personalization, the better because when they receive your gift basket, they will be touched by your thoughtfulness.

Now once you have put the gift basket together, you might want to plug up the "holes". Strategic use of colored tissue paper will help to settle your gift basket items as well as make it pretty. When you are satisfied with the arrangement of your gift basket, use a clear wrapping paper to wrap up the gift basket. Put on a nice bow and you are all set to present your gift to the giftee.
