Make a St. Patrick's Day Gift Basket Centerpiece

Here's an idea for a great centerpiece for your St. Patrick's Day party. A leprechaun surrounded by bags of gold coins in a bowl standing on green grass made from green chocolates, jelly beans, and pistachios.

Take a large pasta bowl like the one shown here; if the color is green, even better. It's perfect because it's shallow and doesn't take up too much space. You will use this bowl for the centerpiece. If you don't have a large pasta bowl, this Signature Housewares bowl is superior stoneware, it doesn't chip easily, holds a lot of pasta, salad, chili, etc for a large crowd.

Take a leprechaun figurine. Make sure that the size matches the bowl so that it's not too big or too small. If you don't have a leprechaun figurine, this Jim Shore leprechaun from Enesco is perfect. This leprechaun guards his pot of gold assiduously while still being friendly. It's made from stone resin.

When you have centered the leprechaun to your liking, take some gold coin bags and spread it around the leprechaun. Then take green Hershey's kisses and fill the bowl. Then take some green jelly beans and put it over the green Hershey's kisses; this will fill in any nooks between the kisses. Lastly, take the green pistachios and put it around the leprechaun so that it looks like he's standing on his own piece of grass. Having this green layering gives the centerpiece additional detail. Finally, make sure that you make the tags visible so that your guests know that there are delicious chocolate party favors waiting for them after dinner.

Now if you can't find gold coins, the Fort Knox Gold Coins come in packs of 20 2-ounce units and are made from delicious Belgian chocolate.

To keep with the green theme of St. Patrick's Day and create the green grass, this 8 ounce bag of green tinted pistachios are edible and also make for great decoration. Green apple Jelly Belly jelly beans and Hershey's kisses wrapped in green foil finish the look.

This centerpiece is a wonderful surprise, a conversation starter, and great for snacking.
