White Lions of Timbavati, my girlfriends, the epigramman and I - a poem

Me and my friends from Hubland

Always exploring, Nell Rose, Fossillady,

Epigramman with his pets Georgie and Tammy

Were looking for the white lions of Timbavati

Click thumbnail to view full-size

We saw buffaloes, rhinos, and zebras,

elephants, giraffes and monkeys,

leopards, hundreds of bucks and meerkat -

but those famous lions were no where in sight.

.

Epigramman said wait a minute my Tammy

smells them, look at her face she’s about to faint -

Yes there they lay all drowsy and lazy -

The most famous lions in the world.

Hungry as horses we lunched at the lodge

Five sorts of meat and salads galore

We needed a rest before the party at eight

Epi and his pets took the honeymoon suite.

.

For the special occasion the best band Supersonics

hooked us on classics and rock and roll too

Ruby and Epi did the tango’s and the cha-cha’s

Nell, Fossi and I did the rumbas and the twists.

It was about midnight when Nell disappeared

apparently with my partner, the king of all dancers

Rubi was still dancing, but barefoot with a stranger

While Fossi and Epi were chatting at the bar.

.

I blew a kiss to the moon

My friends were happy

and too, the

White Lions of Timbavati.

Thank you André and Lany for the pictures. I think Motswari in Timbavati was the perfect venue for your 30th wedding anniversary. I know you are now aiming for fifty :)))

Good tribute to Epgramman, Nell Rose, Ruby and Fossillady. They are my best friend. Thanks for writing this. You still the best, Martie. You made this so beautiful with good imagination. I really enjoy all stunning pictures. It's like in the zoo. Well done, my friend. I give my thumbs up for you. God bless you and have a great day!

Gosh, what a sight they would be to see in real life! Fossi is a cute nickname, like it!! I so enjoyed the trip Martie!! Hugs

kirutaye – Thanks for the visit, the read and your nice comment. I’m always interested in everything, or at least in most things, but Time is my prison and responsibilities my staple - I just can’t manage to escape as often as I want to. I’ll hop over to your blog as soon as I can :))

*** prasetio30 – my dear friend, I always appreciate your support. You are welcome to join us on our next trip :)

*** WillStarr – I do, sir. I just remember I’ve got a picture of my grandchildren holding lion cubs. I’m going to post it right here.

*** twentyfive – Welcome in my corner! Nice to know you were here and loved the read.

*** BobbiRant – Glad to know you loved it! I bet you will just love spending real time at Motswari.

*** Marcella Glenn – They are indeed beautiful and rare. Thanks for the visit.

*** Amy Becherer – If I can’t live it in reality, I live it in a story or a poem. Of course not the same, but half and egg is better than no egg at all. You’re welcome to join us on our next trip.

*** Fossillady – I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Sorry about your back. Hahaha! You could have fooled me – I thought you were a dancing queen :)))

They are magnificent creatures.Truly the king of beasts. Looked them up at wiki and learn some interesting facts."Canned safari" had me stumped.I thought it meant a photo shoot then I found out it was killing(hunting is too polite) them in safari tours...How sad.

Your inclusion of the epigramman in your poem reminded me of his avatar where he was cuddling a cat in his arms. It brought up an image of colin in the loving paws of a white lion. A prelude to a sumptuous dinner....the lion's of course :)

Oh Martie, My computer has been down all day, just now got on and saw this fantastic story. Martie have you seen my shoes? Boy did i have a good time!! I seemed to have lost my Stranger partner too. Epi got so tired dancing the Tango, he had to rest so the stranger and i danced until he was gasping for air, these young fellas get tired so quick Hee The white lions are very beautiful and so is your family. Thank you for the adventure. Oh, and by the way, Nell called, she's ok, seems she is going to be tied up for a few days ( cough ) I havn't heard from Fossillady or Epi, hope they didn't stay at the bar too long ( cough ) See you next time girlfriend.

Cheers

SilentReed – You brought forward in my mind images of those men in circuses, sticking their heads deep into the mouths of lions!

We have farms here where wild animals (herbivores) are bred like cattle. During certain seasons hunters are allowed to shoot some of the animals (for the pot), but according to strict rules. This is a quite an expensive ‘hobby’, so I’ve came to the conclusion that too much money can degrade the brain to its primitive state where men need to kill animals in order to feel manly.

Trophy hunters (who will also hunt carnivores) are only allowed to shoot old and surplus stock.

Protection of wild animals is a priority in our country; many laws forbid game farmers and hunters to kill animals left right and centre. The argument is if one may breed cattle, why not wild animals?

Unfortunately we do have creatures who regard money more important than life – they create jobs for security- and police officers and prison warders. At the end of the day the ecology seems to be in balance.

Thanks for coming by and for leaving such a nice, gregarious comment. Take care!

always exploring – I’m so sorry about your shoes, Ruby. Sadly a new law emerged in this country of mine: What lies around or what is not under lock and key or chained to one’s body belongs to the one who has the audacity to take it.

I think we’ve danced those partners of us completely out of stamina. I’ve just heard one of them was discovered in the fish pond this morning, luckily with his head above water. Now I’m not sure if it was your partner or mine – Nell will know the answer :)))

And if you ask me, Ruby, Epi is busy to entertain a guest in the honeymoon suite. Did you notice how many times he danced with that lady in the black dress?

I’m so glad you enjoyed the outing, Ruby. When it’s my turn again, I’ll take you to.... let it be a surprise :))))

See you, Ruby :)))

I am not in favor of bull fighting but at least the matador faces the bull armed only with sword and courage. Death faces him. But how can one feel "manly" in these safari tours where every means is made to assure the safety of the "Big game hunter"Just like shooting clay pigeons in the amusement parks only more expensive.;)

..well this is probably the best road trip that I've ever been on in my entire life - hot intelligent women who know how to turn my poetic crank and God's beautiful four-legged creatures (and two legged ones too) and to be mentioned in the same breath as both beauties (two and four legged) is definitely the biggest thrill and honor I've ever had at the Hub! And it's all thanks to someone as magnificent and gifted as you!!!!!

Ah - Martie - what a great romp and a fun Hub! The felines are not a bit ferocious and just as pretty as you and your lovely daughter and granddaughters. What a delightful excursion. I wish I'd been in on it too! hehe.

But it's just about as good reading the review! Definitely gets my votes!

MartieCoetser profile image

*** SilentReed – This is certainly a topic suitable for a hub on its own. I hate killing – I even shrink when they cut trees down. When I pass a truck loaded with animals on the way to the abattoir I feel terrible. Yes, why do we eat meat? :(((

*** epigramman – It was so nice to have you with us! We did not have very much of you, though... you were most of the time surrounded by ladies we don’t know from Adam. You are too charming, my friend. Some clever lady is going to kidnap you!

*** Nell Rose – uhem, to be discreet is a quality that deserves applause. To be honest, I would’ve disappeared for a couple of days with that one too... and returned with a polite excuse. Hahahaha!

*** always exploring – Oh, we’ll never know. Your guess is as good as mine. Lol! But let’s admit he is too handsome for his shirt. Did you get the medicine I sent you for that cough of yours?

Now Ruby, where are we going next and who’s going to lead the tour?

PS.: I’ll send some ointment for your blisters, and I’ve blessed the one who took your shoes :))))

*** AliciaC – I really think this is quite a nice way to learn about each other’s countries. I’m so glad you enjoyed the day in Timbavati with us.

*** Nellieanna – ohhh, I love you new avatar! I know you would’ve enjoyed the day with us. You’re so welcome to join us on our next excursion. We have to decide who’s going to take the lead. But... uhum... you are welcome to invite us all to your range... a party in your barn-yard would be delightful. Hee-haw! :)))

..well as I sit here - my two little lion cubs are with me - Little Miss Tiffy and Mister Gabriel - and Martie you have been a rock in my hub life - a true friend and supporter of my writing and poetic diversions - and as pure and as lovely as any one of these little lion hubs - in other words - a gift from God - and you are a supremely intelligent beautiful woman at that!

MartieCoetser profile image

*** epigramman – You’ve become part of my family in Hubland. I must know your thoughts of the day, must know if you are okay... To know you regard me as a true friend and supporter really warms my heart. Take good care of yourself (and your little lion cubs), my dear friend, because you are unique and special and a dear friend to me and many other hubbers. Not only because you are always telling us what we love to hear, but because you are you :))))

*** Micky Dee – When I see you in my corner, it always feels if you are on your bike, passing through at a speed while you appreciate whatever you regard as worthy of appreciation... and sometimes you stop to shoot a picture.

Thanks for commenting, Micky, I truly appreciate all your comments. See you again... hopefully soon.

Screaming now, because you are already almost out of my sight: And don’t forget to eat your veggies! It will keep you up and about!

To myself: Wow! That Micky Dee reminds me of Meep-Meep the Roadrunner... Did I see/hear him, or did I not?

:))))

Your love for these magnificent white lions (and every other wild animal) shines through your beautiful words, Martie. Thank you for these awesome graphics, too.

Mia and Danay went out to play,

And found some cute lion cubs,

With milk in a bottle, they fed them a lottle,

But then had to leave them, ay, that's the rub.

Your granddaughters are absolutely beautiful. Of course. They are reflections of you.

Tee hee - well - I might have to extort a small fee. I just got the bill from the well guy for fixing the leak when the pipes froze. Ugh. He has to travel about 60 or so miles each way - much of it over rough ranch roads so I don't dare complain. Without that well working - the ranch would just be a dry desert. And everyone needs to bring a tent and a bedroll if that party gets off the ground - or should I say - up to or down to ground level!! By the way - I have real roadrunners! Also mountain lions, bobcats, foxes, jackrabbits, rattlesnakes, wild turkey and quail, many lovely songbirds, deer, and thorny plants. (Trees and shade are minimal - so bring big hats - the sun is fierce - when it's not freezing!)

Think we could make a party out of it? hehe.
