Mexican Foods in Indonesia

My first encountered with Mexican foods was tortilla chips, and I loved it, and I never knew that it just a small part from the rich of Mexican foods. Mexican foods are amazing.

There are many Mexican Restaurants in Indonesia, some of them are Amigos and Hacienda Mexican Bar & Grill.

1. Amigos
is abbreviation from "Ajang Makan, Minum dan Gosip" or "The Place for eat, drink, and gossip". The restaurant is known with their "Hot music, Cold Margaritas, Sizzling Fajitas, and Killer BBQ Ribs." There are many Amigos restaurants in Jakarta and Bandung. You may find the restaurant in Kemang Club Villas (South Jakarta, capacity : 150 people), in Bellagio (West Mega Kuningan - South Jakarta, capacity : 200 people), Pluit (North Jakarta, capacity : 100 people), Pulomas (East Jakarta, capacity : 200 people) and in Terusan Pasteur (Bandung - West Java, capacity : 200 people).

You will not only dine-in, but also you may enjoy live music performance almost every day. Amigos is used to serve the foreigner in Indonesia, people from Texas and Dallas who worked in Indonesia in many oil companies. But now, many local people are also love to eat in Amigos because the foods are great and taste almost similar with local foods.

2. The Hacienda Mexican Bar and Grill
is located in Plaza Senayan Arcadia. in unit X-105. Proclaimed as the finest Mexican cuisine in Jakarta. Hacienda offers guests an array of carefully prepared Mexican dishes using the freshest ingredients. Their goals are to offer a fiesta for guests to feel fun-filled, fresh, and full of flavors coupled with friendly and attentive services.

Some of Hacienda menu's are Soft and Crispy Tacos, Crispy Nachos, Quesadillas, Enchiladas, Sizzling Fajitas, Soft and Chimis-Fried burritos and the main courses include Snapper, Steaks, Chicken, and Shrimp. They serve appertizers like Chips and Fresh salsa, Guacomole, Chimichangitas, Jalapeno Poppers and many kind of Mexican soups, salads, and desserts. Also they have various kinds of Margaritas.

One of Hacienda menu is Chicken con Mole, chicken drum with Mexican chocolate sauce and sesame, serve with Mexican fried rice and red beans.

Mexican foods are so colorful and tasty. It well known from the various spicy and hot tastes. The Mexican foods are mix and match from the Spanish culture and Aztec tribe. Most of the Mexican foods are come from ancient tradition, like Aztec, Maya, and Spanish.

French culture also took part, adding some baked dishes like Sweet bun and bolillo. There are also many exotic and freaking dishes like iguana, insects, poisonous snakes, and deer. Almost similar with many Asian foods.

1. The Hot and Spicy dishes

I love hot and spicy and Mexican foods are fit so much. The hot and spicy level are not as high as in Indonesian foods like Padang foods or Manado foods, but it's quite satisfying. Most of the ingredients of Mexican foods is tomatoes. Like what you may have in Amigos:  BBQ Ribs, Fajitas, Gonzales BBQ strip steak, burito, and Mexican pizza. Don't forget the tachos and nachos with dips.

2. Tachos

Tachos is a tortilla bread that has been fried in a U shape and is filled with chopped lettuce leaves, chopped meat, tomatoes and cheese. serve with Fresca salsa and Green salsa and chopped onion. The taste is delightful.  Tortilla is Mexico typical bread made from wheat flour and had circular thin shape.

3. Baja Burrito and Fajitas

The thin tortilla bread, folded into pillow shape and filled with tenderloin steaks and tomatoes, red beans and serve with ranchero sauce. In Indonesia you may have burritos served with Mexican fried rice and many sauces like salsa fresca and guacamole dip and fresh onion, well it's really full, but for us Indonesian people, is not satisfying if we're not consume rice :)

Fajitas is great, because you may add and mix the ingredients by yourself and it's fun.

4. Red Bean soup and Guacamole

My family love red beans, we may have it as soup with pork ribs, but in Mexican line, you may enjoy the different type of soup. The soup is made from red bean that cooked in the chicken stock and the taste is thick and delicious.

Guacamole is my favorite too, the legendary sauce made from avocado, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, salt and pepper. And serve with Seviche or seafood salad.
